Y'ever notice how many people make these "Positive Energy" posts, videos, memes, etc. that are just like
"When you're going to think a bad thought, think a good thought instead! :DDDDD"
I have always hated those vehemently and now I get why
Because they have the literal exact same energy as "Have you tried not being depressed?"
And now that I've gotten through my depression, cured my anxiety, and haven't been suicidal in like 15 years, it's high time I tell all y'all the truth.
That shit doesn't fucking work.
BELIEVE IT OR NOT: A picture of Luz from Owl House saying "You can do it! Believe in yourself!" will not cure your depression. In fact, it won't do anything.
The reason for your depression is because you don't want to accept reality, and reality is that the world is hard.
You need to get tougher. You need to actually walk out and face what's scaring you, let it hurt you, and learn from the pain.
You need to stop putting bandaids on your gaping emotional wounds and actually go look into how to suture that shit, and I don't care if you think needles are scary you need to toughen the fuck up and tend to your fucking wounds, get some new wounds, and tend to those.
Take it from me, I used to get under my desk and cry with a stuffed sheep when I was in my 20s.
Now I'm in my 30s and know what's under my desk? Magnetic resistance pedals because I've lost 100lbs in the last two years and I'm working hard to stop being a big fat baby.
I've gotten my debt down from 10k to 1k, I've put monumental amounts of work into projects I put off for years, I've learned 3D, music, animation, audio editing, I'm working on my own game, I'm dieting, exercising, hell I even guest starred on one of the biggest podcasts on earth a few weeks ago and I'm waiting for that episode to air.
Know how I did it? I stopped being a PUSSY. I stopped sitting around and crying and watching cartoons where the magical girls lost in an enchanted world overcome their problems so I can cry my eyes out and go "If you can do it, so can I!" because that literally did nothing, I was still crying, I was still depressed.
I manned the fuck up, stopped living in a fantasy, took control of my life and started taking the hits to the face so I could bruise up, get some cool battle scars and be a fucking man for a change.
So stop sitting around and letting cartoon characters cheer you up in the moment. Go fucking live life. Make mistakes. Learn from those mistakes. Stop complaining. Stop blaming everyone else. Stop using "But it's hard" or "But some evil person made it too hard" as an excuse to be LAZY.
"But Jay my disability-" I'm morbidly obese and I have rheumatoid arthritis and I did all the shit I mentioned above THIS YEAR, at THIRTY SEVEN YEARS OLD. Don't fucking gimmie that disability shit.
