“no. you can’t go, it’s too dangerous.”
“it’s not dangerous. i’ll be fine.”
“i’m not going to let anything happen to you.”
“you can’t keep me safe from everything.”
“just be careful.”
“i’m always careful.”
“you’re going to get yourself hurt.”
“i won’t get hurt, i promise.”
“i won’t let them hurt you.”
“you can’t save me from this.”
“please try and stay out of trouble.”
“if anything happened to you…”
“i’m not sure how to keep you safe.”
“i’m not going to let you out of my sight.”
“this is the only way to keep you safe.”
“you can’t keep an eye on me twenty four seven.”
“everywhere you go, i go.”
“it’s not your job to protect me.”
“it’s my job to protect you.”
“don’t worry, i’ve got you.”
“no one will hurt you as long as i’m breathing.”
“you don’t understand how dangerous this is.”
“please come back in one piece.”
i miss him so much… He was always there when i was sad and alone, he was the only one who told me it wasn’t my fault. I miss him. I miss him with every bit of my existence and now it seems he wasn’t even real, just some nonsense my mind made up…
76in:
this place was just too BRIGHT, it was almost blinding. everywhere he looked a smiling face met him; after he took off the mask. he hid who he was for so long, enforcing the idea that jack morrison was dead and buried. yet here he stood, that man that once donned the title of strike-commander. death didn’t take.
it was a long time before he clipped off the face plate and stuffed it into his ammo bag. those stares bothered him for reasons he couldn’t explain, like he had no right to EXIST. maybe they were right. but the moment his skin felt the air against it, he was welcomed with those smiles, their eyes holding so much concern and pity for him. nothing could change that, his scars ran too deep to hide.
he wasn’t the type to care what others said or thought about his appearance, it was just this place. it felt like he was trespassing and the only way to safely cross was to ATTEMPT to blend in. he didn’t belong. it was like even the land held its breath, waiting for the storm to pass. as yet another smiling face approached he thought nothing of it. just another face with sad eyes. it was fine, he’d be LONG GONE soon enough. it wasn’t like soldier:76 to hang around a place for too long. even his occasional break ins lasted mere minutes. so he was stunned to say the least when she spoke, directing words at him in such a soft voice, one he almost had no right to hear. he was too battle scarred, too hungry for revenge, for truth. she seemed so pure and he was at the other end of the spectrum. if he spoke he might taint her. and yet —
“ looking for.. there’s a lot i’m looking for. it’s just not here. ” he wanted to smile in return but there was little happiness for him to draw upon. his life grew dark, and this abundance of light only served to remind him. “ i’ll be gone before you know it.. i know my presence isn’t the most sightly. ”
HIS REACTION CONFUSED HER. not because what he evidently sought wasn’t in hyrule –––– each person had their own journey, and she wasn’t surprised when what they were looking for could only be found outside of the borders of her home –––– but, rather, it was because he suggested that his existence was UNSIGHTLY. and, surely, that wasn’t how the princess saw him, though she couldn’t say the same for the other residents of hyrule ( perhaps, she thought, it was the scars, but they were far from the first scars she had seen ).
for the first time since trying to tell where he had come from, zelda really looked at the man. almost immediately, she could tell that he was a SOLDIER. she spent enough time around battle weary guards to recognize the way that he carried himself. the princess shook her head, hoping that she didn’t look too surprised by his words. she tried to turn her expression back to a smile.
❝ i don’t know what you mean. ❞ well, she did, but the point she was trying to make was that it didn’t affect her. ❝ all who don’t wish to do our kingdom harm are welcome here. ❞ and she could say that with CONFIDENCE.
as for her people, she was sure that many of them weren’t affected, either. but, they did tend to prefer to keep to themselves, which may have AIDED in the stranger’s opinion. an opinion she would have to try and change.
❝ does the traveler have a name? ❞ she asked, of course referring to the very man she was speaking to. whatever his doubts, perhaps she could make his day just the big brighter.
There’s a part of me that’s desperate for changes,
Tired of being treated like a p a w n.
But there’s a part of me that stares back
from inside the mirror
Part of me that’s scared I might be wrong–
That I can’t be s t r o n g.
❝ you are the light — our light — that must shine upon hyrule once again. ❞
