Gabby Douglas said she tried to stay off social media due to all the 'negativity' after her participation in the all-around team competition in Rio de Janeiro.
After Douglas thanked everyone in the press area and gave way to Madison Kocian, who won the silver medal in the uneven bars competition, she walked down the hallway at Olympic Arena. Then Douglas stood in a corner, facing a wall, and had a good, long cry.
It was hard to watch. Every now and then, a Team USA worker took a look at her. Finally, a woman walked over and handed Douglas what appeared to be a Kleenex. The woman wrapped an arm around Douglas' shoulder and patted her a couple of times, then left the gymnast alone once more.

Congratulations to the assholes (and yes some of you on here don’t act like you weren’t part of this) for bullying a 3x Olympic champion to the point it’s really affecting her and it sounds like she doesn’t even want to continue because of it. Someone who has been nothing but loving and supportive towards EVERY COMPETITOR not just her own teammates. Even when she qualified in bronze medal position to the all around final but didn’t get to compete because of the 2 per country rule, she didn’t even flinch. She stood by and was all smiles for Simone and Aly in quals. There have been a ton of opportunities for her to be angry and bitter but she hasn’t, not once. The anger and bitterness is 100% coming from random ass people on the Internet. Congrats on being a giant piece of shit. Gabby has more compassion sportsmanship in her pinky toe than y'all do in your whole body.
At this rate, with this and everything she said in the mixed zone per Will Graves’ Twitter, I’m 100% convinced that if she retires it’s because she doesn’t wanna put up with this anymore.

So disgustingly sad. The article and Mixed Zone tweets brought me to tears. The girl is a 20 year old young woman & the amount of unwarranted criticism and vitriol she’s received is frankly ridiculous.
I truly hope she returns to elite competitions, I think she has so much more to give & I’d hate to see her go out like this because of this hate (although I’d totally understand).
So now Gabby is a bad person for not cheering. Has Gabby ever been in the gymternet's hood graces? Probably not since she always seems to outdo or be chosen over someone's favorite.
Gymnasts are obviously going to experience so many emotions at their disappointment while also experiencing simultaneous emotions of love and respect for their teammates. In 2012, when Aly and Gabby qualified for the all-around, Jordyn was so stunned and disappointed in herself that she sobbed her face off and slept in a different room so she could get used to the fact that she wouldn’t be in the all-around final. By AA day and medals time, she had dealt with everything and could support her teammates. Gabby was the opposite. She was nothing but happy and gave SO much love to her teammates when they qualified over her, and it probably didn’t hit her until she saw them getting medals that she wanted it just as badly as they did and wouldn’t get the chance. People can be disappointed with their own circumstances and can still be supportive of others. It sucks for Gabby that her reactions are public and that people are going to nitpick all of them without knowing her personally or what she’s thinking. But if people think it’s “bad sportsmanship” based on one tiny clip, just sit down.

Why Gabby Douglas's Saltiness Does Not Bother Me
Let me tell y'all something. No one knows what Gabby Douglas has been feeling, and I don’t really think anyone knows for sure…but I have a good guess.
How about being put on a team just because it looks good– there is no doubt that Gabby is an excellent gymnast and absolutely deserves to be on that USA team, I just don’t think they allowed Gabby on the team for her talent. They let her on because it looks good.
Why the hell else would they give her mediocre choreographed routines? People will try to use the excuse that it’s next to impossible to make the Olympic team twice as a gymnast because the games are so far apart and staying in shape to pull off those moves is hard, well guess what? Gabby has been hitting that gym just like Aly and Aly was phenomenal, why? Because she had amazing routines.
We’ve seen Gabby do amazing routines back in 2012. She is nicknamed the flying squirrel for crying out loud. Gabby is fully capable of pulling off just as amazing routines today than she did back then. Aly is looking way better in Rio then she did in London.
how about it being thrown in your face constantly that another gymnast on your team is considered the greatest gymnast ever? Yes I’m talking about Simone Biles, and yes I damn well believe she’s the best. She is a freaking beast! But just imagine having to hear that after conquering a historic win, just really imagine that.
Gabby was sabotaged. She was put on the team to make it seem like she was going to get a real chance to defend her All Around title, all the while Simone Biles was the Cinderella story.
Do I think Gabby could have showed her support to her teammates publicly more? Yeah, maybe. But I also understand. To work so hard to get back to the olympics, was made to believe that she would be defending her title, and now to only be used for the uneven bars, I mean what the actual fuck.
Gabby absolutely has a right to be pissed and I think people should really think hard before they try to jump down her throat for looking like she’s been sipping salt water all Olympic Games long.
A proven champion deserves better.
The thing is, she’s not being given mediocre routines, she’s doing what she always does: trying to pull things off at the last minute. It worked in London but this year that won’t cut it. She has resisted being pushed to do harder skills. Marta Karolyi told her to have the Amanar vault ready by US nationals, and she didn’t. She’s still only doing the double Yurchenko. She was also advised not to switch coaches (again), and she did anyway. She came in 7th at the Olympic trials and made the team over 3 girls who had better scores. She has been inconsistent. She was put on the olympic team only for her bars ability. She was only chosen over Ashton Locklear (who is as good as Maddie on UB) because she could have filled in for other events if needed. Frankly, she was lucky to make the team after her disappointing performances at nationals and the Olympic trials.
I think everyone defending her are “4 year fans” of gymnastics who are more interested in people’s back stories than their performances. Gabby isn’t in the AA because she hasn’t worked for it and hasn’t earned it, period. She thought she could skate through and get all the glory without pushing herself like the other girls have. She has worked hard, but the other girls (including some who were excluded from the team) have gone above and beyond. When you’re on the best team in the world, perhaps of all time, “good” doesn’t cut it. You have to be phenomenal.
She has 3 olympic gold medals and no one can take that away from her. She has nothing to be ashamed of. But she also has no right to be salty about being beaten by two athletes who are just…better than her.
However, the accusations about her lack of patriotism and everyone talking about her hair? That’s ridiculous, misogynistic and racist.
I understand being an Aly fan and not a Gabby fan or vice versa, but I don’t understand people acting like Aly is SUCH a better gymnast than Gabby. Fact of the matter is they are both interchangeable and can beat each other on any given day depending on how they hit. Gabby’s prelims score was marginally better than Aly’s AA final - whereas Aly was marginally better in prelims (even w/ the overscoring on UB). Had Gabby had her Amanar back, it would have been a different story, so I wonder if she’ll have lingering regrets about that.
I agree Gabby had struggle at Nationals and Trials - shit happens and I believe it was mental as opposed to her NOT being able to do the skills. However, before that we hadn’t really seen her falter in her comeback while others had (Worlds, Jesolo, SCAM, etc). I just think after a few bad meets it’s unfair for people to say that she hasn’t worked for it or earned it when she’s been putting in the work. training in the gym the same hours and 6 days a week as every other girl.
I truly hope that Gabby Douglas doesnt retire i feel like she has more to show. I hope she takes in how well she did as a team member and on ub as a sign to continue. I’m okay with aly retiring cause i think shes shown all she could give but not gabby.
I love Aly & am so happy for her, but she needs to let Simone have this moment solo!
THE FINAL FIVE
Danell, shouldn’t you start prepping your hands before your turn? There’s no reason to be taping your fingers still after “green light.”
Actually, because the way I drop for my first 4 skills is very intense so the tape needs to be incredibly tight, otherwise it’ll roll or rip and cause me to lose my grip. And if you’re familiar with my parallel bar routine you would notice that the grip is the most important part of the my routine, seeing as I have 7 out of the 10 total skills as under bar skills. Besides, if it weren’t for the fact that the ligament in my ring finger is literally completely torn (on the inside of the finger) I wouldn’t use tape at all because I hate being dependent on anything. So yes, there is a very solid reason why I tape my finger right before my turn. Ask before assuming next time :)

If you support and care about Team USA, you need to get on board and support ALL of the athletes on that team, IMO. Fact of the matter is Gabby is ON Team USA, no matter if your favorite didn’t make it after trials or won’t be doing AA. The excessive Gabby hate/criticism/negativity still 7 days out of Rio is just crazy & getting old. We should be supporting, uplifting and staying positive that ALL of the girls will kill it come QF.
Let’s talk yesterday’s UB training videos, obviously it was NOT Gabby’s best set and she missed some connections. BUT, it was ONE routine out of God knows how many Martha has them do in a single training session.
Simone & Maddie did stellar routines, absolutely, and they should be commended but those were STILL just ONE routine out of a whole days worth. Whose to say every single routine they did that session was flawless with no errors? AND there were no videos of Laurie/Aly - so should we automatically assume that they had a horrible bar set or fell & the person taking the video didn’t upload it because of that? I bet if it was the case, people would be quick to dismiss it as a ‘fluke’ or ‘off day’.
I just think people LOVE to crucify Gabby at every chance they get and at the end of the day ALL 5 team members are amazing athletes who work just as hard as each other and all deserve to be there.
girls who have Louboutins: did you get the rubber pads put on the sole?
the girl at Saks who sold them to me told me to wear them two times or so and then go to a shoe place (she gave me the business cards of two places) so i could get matching red rubber pads put on the bottoms so they would be less slippery. do you find that you need to do that even after wearing them once? should i do it?
i wear them a few times & then do it. to put the rubber sole on they have to sand off the red anyway & once i've worn them & scratched off the red the worn area adds as a guide so they don't put the rubber sole too high up in the back.
