Over halfway through the Lymond Chronicles, and it’s getting really hard to tell which of the things happening to Lymond constitute Enrichment In The Enclosure and which ones are Deeply Traumatic Experiences, and frankly I don’t even think he knows that himself, which only contributes to the problem

Another contributing factor is that Lymond fundamentally believes that he doesn’t deserve happiness, but he’d rather be miserable on his own terms than on someone else’s, therefore entering into potentially traumatising situations with a smile on his face because at least he’s doing it of his own volition, as if that makes it okay, somehow
