Margot entered the living room, wearing a short, form fitting black dress and sparkling diamond earrings. It had been rather cold outside, but inside the house it was warm, and she found she was fine, temporarily, with bare shoulders. Moments after she had entered, the staff walked by carrying dozens of bags, all printed with the names of designer labels. She sat gracefully on the sofa, and glanced over to the woman across from her, who happened to be staring in her direction. ‘Yes I suppose I thought it best to get Christmas shopping over and done with. It’s December. And New York. Can’t imagine the two going together very well in terms of shopping, can you?’ She asked, ‘What about you? Have you started to shop yet? Do you have people to shop for? Are you a last minute shopper?’ she bombarded the woman with questions, ‘I’m a fan of gift giving, you see.’
Luz heard the commotion as a group of people shuffled into the room, so loud that it drew her eyes away from her laptop sscreen. She squinted as she watched the people walk by with bags, and she pursed her lips as her eyes took in the woman’s outfit. It was out of place, as far as casual nights in the living room went, but she looked put together. “Oh,” she replied, nodding at the answer to a question she hadn’t asked. Maybe her gawking at the bags had made her want to explain, though. “Yeah, I started early - I did a lot on Friday and Monday too, actually. I do all my shopping online, though,” she replied, a small laugh falling at the comment. “Yeah, I see that,” she joked, gesturing to the hall the bags had disappeared to. “I just have my family to shop for though, so - not as much stuff. You have a big family?” she asked curiously.
