A starter for @lvttletremors [ Yeri && Taeyeon ]
News of the human Sun Tribe’s deceit concerning this year’s harvest of wine grapes had travelled fast. Their leader, Nam Byungho, had decided to keep their successful harvest a secret from the Fox Clan and wanted to present Yeri’s kind with only a quarter of the wine they made for the Fox Clan’s mid-summer festival. His reckless decision was, of course, unacceptable in every way.
Yeri was to give her announcement to her people on how she would deal with the foolish tribe at noon today, despite the fact that she had made already made her choice the day after her messenger, Chaeeun, had delivered it. There was no question about how she should punish the Sun Tribe: she was going to massacre their entire village.
Just like the rest of the immortals, Yeri believed the humans had been created to serve her kind. She was taught from birth that humans were only made by deities to work the immortals’ lands, provide the immortals with harvest, and sometimes, when they could, offer the immortals entertainment and carnal pleasure.
Yet, unlike the other immortals in her own clan, Yeri felt no particular emotion towards the Sun Tribe’s betrayal. She was not resentful of them, nor did she feel that her pride was hurt. Rather… She was amused; she felt as if the humans in the Sun Tribe had foolishly attempted to play a dangerous game with her, one that they were bound to lose in and one that they could pay for with their meaningless lives.
She had been set on her decision to take her prize from the gamble she won against the humans until Chaeeun had brought more news from the humans to her: the Sun Tribe had murdered their own leader for treason, wanted to repent for their sins by bringing in the centuries’ worth of wine they had hidden from the Fox Clan, and lastly, that they would gift fifteen of their fairest maidens to Yeri come mid-summer festival.
Their offer was one Yeri felt no need to decline; there would be no bloodbath this time.
taeyeon should have felt like this was an honor. everyone had said it would be, especially her mom and the village leader, but it doesn’t really come across to her as one. maybe it’s because she’s so focused on the fact that she’s being ripped from her home and from the only man she’s ever really loved, but that all seems irrelevant to the people who care more about the state of the village than the life one measly little girl in it.
on the day of The Offering, she’s permitted to say goodbye to her family and friends. she doesn’t really want to, especially because she feels like she’s been betrayed, but she’s a good daughter and kisses her teary parents goodbye. what are they crying about? it’s not like they’re the ones who are going to be trapped on mount wherever with a bunch of boring, demanding gods, being told what to do and never having any kind of agency.
she visits yilong last, and it’s only then that she really feels her heart plummet past her stomach and shattering at her soles. he looks broken, helpless, exactly the way she feels. they share the longest kiss they’ve ever had (she wagers) before she’s torn away from him and led to join the other fourteen girls. she notes how pretty they are, too; they look like pure, lovely little dolls, dressed up and excited. she wishes she could have the same naïveté.
the village leader only takes them as far as the gate to the golden city, telling them that he couldn’t lead them further. she seems to be the only person with a problem with this statement, but the others carry on, so she picks up her skirts and hurries after them, trying to keep up with her relatively shorter legs. when they reach the heart of the city, they hesitate as a group, unsure if they should knock at the door or simply wait.
their questions are answered a few minutes later when the doors open, and they’re led into the largest room taeyeon has ever been in. this place is probably larger than their entire village’s land, and better looking, too, and she suddenly feels the overwhelming need to escape.
