hope tumblr lasts another 20 years so i can liveblog my midlife crisis
there are four cats at home. except for a specific room, all cats are in the common areas and bathrooms (where their litter boxes are).
one of them's taken to running into bedrooms and jumping on the bed. that was it, at first. just. dash in, jumps up, boing. well, he's discovered he can fit in the 5" gap under the bed ... but I can't.
it was a ... different way to spend the afternoon. quite humbling, very didactic
happy pride month dykes i love you dykes
RIP Marjane Satrapi, author of the amazing graphic novels Persepolis about living during the fundamentalist revolution in Iran in the 70’s and 80’s. She also created the animated movie based on the graphic novels, which is where these gifs come from.

I miss nine…
I know this is one of those arbitrary cultural differences that doesn’t actually matter but I have to confess the concept of someone considering a clear, highly processed lemon flavored soda like Sprite to be a more authentic version of lemonade than a simple mixture of lemons, sugar, and water…well, it pisses me off.
when op hears the phrase “when life gives you lemons, make lemonade” in American media does the meaning partially go over their head because they think of lemonade as a factory produced soda pop rather than something anybody can make in a home kitchen in 10 minutes or less? Did they listen to Beyoncé’s Lemonade and picture a bottled soda? Much to think about….
I've had both kinds and called both of them Lemonade. But if you're in Australia and ask for lemonade you're 100% getting Sprite.
Is there any way to word a drink order in a way that will result in being served the American (ie, correct) version? Do places outside the US and Canada even routinely keep American lemonade in stock?
If I order a shandy in London am I getting a beer cut with Sprite or with actual lemonade?
if you want an American lemonade in the UK, you ask for a "cloudy" lemonade - it's more often than not already still, so no need to ask for that. it really depends on the restaurant but it's not often an option unless it's bottled tbh
cloudy lemonade is often sold ready prepared, but it could also be made with lemon squash (a squash being a concentrated, sweetened fruit juice you reduce).
asking for a shandy in the UK will get you, yes, beer with a clear sparkling lemonade/Sprite.
there is a distinction for the pedants: Sprite leans a little less sweet than lemonade because of the lime. tbh it's a difference I can barely taste and that imho makes absolutely no real difference.
watching Americans/Canadians lose it at our terrible concept of lemonade is a thing of beauty. I fully agree, that's not the correct definition of lemonade, tbh
husband and I are watching Spider-Noir. I swore I was done with superhero stuff after The Boys and Daredevil Born Again, but. it’s so Cage. I like it so much. g-ddamn it
'people need to interrogate their kinks' okay sure fine. CNC is such a prevalent kink because we are all swimming in the soup of a culture with really fucked up attitudes about power, submission, and consent, and it makes sense that a lot of people process that through stylized play. loads of kinks work like that. the forbidden, the taboo, the social roles people are pressured to fill, all of these can be a breeding ground for kinks and fetishes and as long as everyone involved is consenting this is not actually a problem that needs to be solved. it's something to be aware of, and thoughtful about, when you're playing with other people, that's all.
(and yeah, the scene is not a predator-free utopia and in fact has a lot of the same problems as a lot of other relatively insular groups - namely, that it reflexively protects its own and this reflex strongly follows the various axes of privilege. this is a problem! it's not a problem unique to the kink scene though)
you know what i think maybe needs to be interrogated more than people's kinky fantasies, though? the shit that no one thinks is kinky. the stuff that's just, like, so normal that you don't even have to think about it. of course it works like that. that's not kinky, that's romantic and wholesome. we don't need to talk about consent - that's for weird stuff, and this is normal! and if you suggest that this is maybe something that we should talk about, you're the one making it weird, actually.
the abnormal, the stuff that falls outside of the script, that already is subject to scrutiny just by nature of being what it is. what maybe needs a little more scrutiny is all of the stuff that we culturally consider normal, healthy, and wholesome.
People demand fans of colour to be soft & gentle & have articulate thought out criticisms at all times. Never be wrong never be loud never be mean you have to coddle White fans and creatives, otherwise you're part of the problem. Never mind that your whole experience in fandom has been one macroaggression after another. Never mind that fandom can never be your escapism, because the discrimination you face in real life is often present in both the media you love and the fandom you participate in. Never mind that even when you are soft & gentle & articulate people will still get angry. Just shut up and let White people go to their beautiful fantasy world where people like you don't exist
