Walking through the Ministry, Frank had been heading back to his office from a meeting. His mind had been focused on the file he was reading when he stopped in front of the elevator. Shutting the folder, he looked around for a moment before noticing someone standing next to him. “Afternoon, Malfoy.” Frank spoke. “How’s everything in your department?”
@lxciusmlfy
The near placid glance he offered the man, barely notable for his lacking sense of care to Longbottom’s presence other than the fact that it damn near offended that such a viable waste of blood purity could find the gall to address him. But; his inner thoughts were purely his own, he didn’t make such a reputable name for himself in voicing his every opinion so freely. “As it should be, running smoothly. I don’t suppose the same can be said for you guys.” He’d not been ignorant to the plethora of attacks rising among both the wizard and muggle worlds, a myriad of reasoning including his own hand in many of them.

I can’t sleep | Lucissa
cultivatedperfection:
Blue eyes stared at the white ceiling, the light of the moon casting the shadow of her curtains onto the pale surface. She’d come to know this ceiling well in the passing weeks, always looking up at it. Always in the dead of night. Afraid to close her eyes. Whenever she did she saw blood, and horror, and scorching skin. She saw her sister bound to a chair, dying. And Amycus on the floor, his energy expelled from fatally damaging his tormentor. Her… father. Narcissa Black was officially an orphan. Both parents having died. Both, she suspected were murdered. Only one she knew for certain who had done so.
So instead; she lay awake, sleeping potions sat on her bedside table, untouched. She felt restless, she felt… alone. Before she even coherently realized, she was on her feet, a silk dressing gown wrapping around her body, covering the little bedclothes she wore. She walked quietly, unsure of where she headed, just certain that if she stared at that ceiling any longer she’d lose her wit’s end. She’d taken up night-reading previously. She was yet to try sketching again, for fear it turned dark. However, her feet passed the library and cascaded down the grand stairs. Perhaps a cup of tea, perhaps something stronger. Perhaps… she found herself outside Lucius’ study, the door slightly ajar, enough so for her to peer in and spot him. He had his back to her as he flicked through papers. She clung to the door frame, almost too afraid to step inside. However, after a moments pause her lips parted.
“I can’t sleep, can I sit with you?” a small voice asked.
@lxciusmlfy
There hadn’t been much in the way of disillusion when Lucius became aware of what Evan had allowed Narcissa to walk into, regardless of whether he and his misfit boyfriend had things under control, it no longer sat well with him to know his wife-to-be trusted such a reckless waste, something he’d still yet to voice. Lucius had worked alongside the dark lord and his cohorts long enough to know exactly what Cygnus was capable of, and with Amycus under the trained eye of Dolohov, it was any wonder they hadn’t created a crevice within the earth from simple impact. Nevertheless, the mark they had left was worrying enough as it etched it’s way into Narcissa’s life in a way that perhaps all too few would ever witness. The woman a near lifeless echo of the brightened piece of his own galaxy, shut away in the manor to dwindle within shadow. He could have felt her, golden hair a beacon for his attention that he’d found many years before hand, Lucius no less appreciative of her presence at such a late hour as he’d ever been as a boy. The softening of his features almost habitual by now as he stepped away from his desk a little more, as the melody of her voice broke the silence. “Still?” He asked a little more curious than he might have been with anyone else, far more inclined to offer a myriad of ways for anyone to find sleep, or unconsciousness, whichever he saw fit for whomever spoke about it. But he’d never dream of it with her. “Of course, come in.” He gestured to his own chair, nothing short of lavish and commanding in a room already so. “Did you want me to send for anything that might help?”

Masquerade | Lucissa

She placed her hands gently upon his shoulders, her height enhanced by the heels upon her feet and leant in to murmur in his ear. “Is it entirely inappropriate of me to tell you how handsome you look tonight?” she asked. Narcissa was perhaps a little wine—tipsy. “I don’t know how this whole betrothal/fiancé thing works,” she admitted. “But I’m feeling brave this evening, and I’d also like to dance,” she added. The blonde smiled as she walked around Lucius so she could finally face him. She offered a hand.
@lxciusmlfy
The soft touch pulled hues back across his shoulder to the blonde that was becoming increasingly familiar by something as simple as the perfume she wore, the sentiment barely audible to anyone other than himself pulled the satisfaction of a smirk to lips all too certain. “With a woman as exquisite as you on my arm, it seemed appropriate to make an effort.” As if he wasn’t already certain he was at the very least the best looking man in attendance. Her sudden air of confidence in contrast to the uncertain and broken conversations they’d had before was a shock in itself, but far be it from him to cut her down. Perhaps she should drink more. “I think you’re doing just fine at this.. betrothal/fiance thing.” Most weren’t as.. compliant with their parents choices, though Lucius found nothing to argue in Narcissa as his wife. She moved around him and he caught hues with hers. Lucius felt no need to take her in, he’d already spent all night catching glimpses of her among the crowd. “Who would I be to say no to you?”
Attending the Masked Gala:
Lucius Malfoy
k-shackleboltx:
He’d noticed the man moving his eyes circling as though he was looking for prey and Kingsley moved forward, offering himself as the target. Arms raised for a moment as he leaned forward to bow given that he was never one to ignore the traditions that proceeded the dueling before his wand raised without a hesitation the word left his mouth, “Stupefy.” Watching as the blast of red light erupted from the end of his wand.
@lxciusmlfy
His dueling efforts extended well beyond simple practice, Lucius appreciated the art of it, the precise necessity of movement and intent, it wasn’t all too often that he came across someone in heated battle willing to comply to traditions, Mirroring his opponent, the mask concealing their identity, which seemed an odd thing in itself, Lucius bowed slightly, perhaps less so than the other, but he did nonetheless. And then he stilled, the shield he threw up expertly diverting the hex towards another with little care to how it found them, his wand stilling by his side in wait.
oceaneyesrosier:
The repetition of his name did nothing to draw his attention- he’d long since learned to tune out the drone of Lucius’ voice for the sake of his own sanity and well-being. The detailing mask barely shifted toward the sound out of habitual need to act like he was paying attention to the words uttered from behind the mask. The latter sentence did catch his attention, only to make him snort in reply. He settled in his chair, hands coming to fold together on the old wooden table, irises flicking toward Malfoy. “How unfortunate you’re still breathing. I could fix that for you if you like.”
“Let’s not get carried away, you’ll hurt yourself and then I’d have to make a fool out of both you and your boyfriend when he tries to fight for your honor. --If he’s feeling lively enough, that is.” he snickered relentlessly, completely uncaring of who heard him. Whether it held weight or not, making a move against Lucius held consequences too many of them had never been willing to deal with as of yet, Evan merely pushed his luck. “Your mission details have changed.”
cultivatedperfection:
It was a refreshing feeling, someone having faith in her. Someone expecting more of her. She’d always been underestimated. She’d always been put in a box. Like a doll on display. She’d been expected to play an instrument, expected to sing, and sew, to laugh lightly, to look lovely. She’d been expected to sit perfectly in the middle of everything, neither astonish nor disappoint. Never truly be her own person. How wrong people had been. Just because her sister roared did not mean she could not. She regarded Lucius, getting caught up in the way his jaw sloped down, creating sharp, handsome angles. “I never speak about my Occlumens and Legilimens abilities,” she said finally. “I suppose it the only thing I have in my arsenal that other’s cannot or would not expect.” she murmured. “An enemy will know of my wand, they will have theirs to match, but they would not know that I could… delve into their mind,” she tried to explain. The only person who really knew of those abilities was Barty, and that was because he was her best friend. Not even Bella really knew. Narcissa thought it safer for them both that way.
One of the reasons she’d given Evan about this marriage was Lucius’ ability to protect her. Evan had shut her down. But standing beside Lucius now, she felt safer than she had in a very long time. And she believed his words. She believed his intention, she believed his verve. A small smile found her lips as she cast her eyes around the foyer of the manor. Home. How odd. It made her heart beat a little faster.
With a swift demi-detourné, Narcissa turned to look at Lucius. “You rescheduled a meeting? For me?” she asked. “Was it important?” she asked. “You needn’t reschedule for me. If it was important, please, go,” she said. “You have a reputation to uphold,” she told him. “I–We have a reputation to uphold,” she added. Just saying it made her stand a little straighter. Something felt incredibly right about it. “We must put our right foot forward,” she said. “I can unpack. Settle in. Whilst you’re out,” she told him. “Perhaps we could touch base later? A cup of tea before bed?” she asked a little tentatively, hopeful.
Truthfully, Lucius didn’t think so little of his own parents to ever assume or insinuate that they’d ever paired him with a woman not completely capable of handling the Malfoy name and everything that came with it. From that surely stemmed the confidence he might have offered her in the form of faith. If she so believed that she was strong enough; he’d concur --- if she thought anything less, he’d simply give her a push in the right direction. No wife of his would be left with doubt in her mind. “And yet you told me.” He wondered out loud, a little more than curious as to what might have sparked such a thing, “You’re gifted, it takes a very rare person to manage such a weight, that alone speaks wonders for the kind of woman you are, Narcissa. Anyone would be a fool to underestimate you.” Despite knowing of his own strengths, Lucius partial to most things he tried his hand in, he knew very well of what people thought of the most delicate Black daughter, though he very much preferred to mold an opinion all his own. Very rarely would the opinions of others ever hold weight with him; Lucius held his own and he knew it, he carried himself beyond the thoughts of others merely to prove them wrong, and he had. Time and time again, grasping for things that many believed he’d let slip for there had to be something he couldn’t master. He’d yet to find it. It left him more than confident in claiming such safety for the woman to be his wife, the mother of whatever children they may have. Fierce as he was, he’d yet to prove his ability as a family man, of which he had no intention of failing. The curve of his lip was unmistakable as a grin split features, “They’re all important,” shaking his head a little, he was surprised by her sudden desire that he focus on work. People waited on him, not the other way around, he could afford to push a few things around. “Hey -- hey,” his hands raised confidently and he made a move towards her, gently pressing palms to her shoulders momentarily before he let go. “You let me worry about our reputation for the time being, Every right foot I could possibly put forward is,” but how much of that would matter if his marriage was the one thing he failed at. “I won’t be an hour or two, should you need me sooner, send one of the elves, okay?”

Doe like eyes were glazed over and yet she hadn’t a sip of the booze that she knew as floating around the place. Perhaps if she were more astute Marlene would’ve been able to put together that something in the air was mucking around with her emotions. But in all actuality she recognized that he was charming and not a terrible person to look at making the effects of the potion all the more easier. She didn’t bother trying to look around the place to see the other faces as she wrinkled her nose in thought with a playful smile on her face.
“Clearly, he’s compensating for something. I’d say we take a look around, see if there’s something that we can’t get ourselves into.” If she had to take a guess from her limited experience with him she supposed that Evan already had his tongue down someone’s throat. A hand gesturing for him to lead the way, “Let’s do it. Find out where he actually hides the good booze…” The idea of finding one of her friends suddenly gone as she decided that the company she was in might not be all that bad.
The smile that blossomed on her features drew him in, the thickened smell that almost seemed to cling to her every movement kept his gaze fixated on her despite his damn near nonchalance about it. Even with the potion making it’s way into his system, Lucius was still as methodical as ever, the man well and truly used to gaining attention from those around him and holding it where he wanted it. “I always figured as much, but this certainly proves it.” His distaste for the living Rosier not something he ever kept to himself with the other around, finding it much more amusing to willingly bother him just to watch the sad excuse for a wizard react. “Oh I’ve no doubt we’ll find something.” It might have been more than even he could have expected, the workings of the potion driving the woman to him in much the way he’d planned to taunt those remaining in the McKinnon line. Teeth pulled over his lesser lip and he moved to step before her, turning to offer his hand, “You know the obnoxious prick probably has the good stuff out on display,” mostly because Lucius was no different. “I’m more interested in you, than the booze, but I can humor you long enough to find something with a bit of bite.”

“Rosier, Rosier... Rosier.” Lucius chuckled beneath his own mask, not at all thrown by the intricate designs each and every member chose to administer to shield any and all familiarity they could offer. The dark sludge around the others eyes had always been a dead giveaway, “How unfortunate that you’re still with us.”
cultivatedperfection:
How was she feeling? Narcissa exhaled deeply, a hand pressing to her chest. Her head tilted in thought. How w a s she feeling? “Anxious,” she admitted. She looked to him. His expression was soft. Softer than she had known, other than when she’d turned up at his door last. She’d never seen him display it with anyone else. Somehow, that made butterflies stir for her. It was silly. Misguided, perhaps. But the tenderness he displayed, in this moment, felt as if it had only ever been given to her.
She’d always had a fluttering of attraction for Lucius. It was the confidence and pride he projected. Perhaps also the tone of his voice when he spoke. It was the fact she felt a little safer in his presence.
“I feel like he’s waiting to snatch me, around every corner,” she admitted. “And I fear that if he were to manage it, I’d be powerless against him.” she added. “I can keep my thoughts from him. I can even delve into his own mind and retrieve his thoughts. But what good is that?” she spoke aloud as she glanced at the art work in the foyer of the manor.
“I’m a strong witch, and I know I’d surprise him. But he has years of experience and a maniacal mind,” she said before finally looking back to Lucius.
“I’m grateful to be here,” she told him. She walked towards him, reaching out to press her gloves fingers to his wrist. “Thank you, Lucius,” she added. “I cannot… it means a great deal that you’ve opened your home to me. Much before it was necessary,” she told him.
The blonde turned to face the house elf, though she did not look down to him. One never looked down to an elf. She removed her gloves carefully, folding them over an arm. “Before here I lived in an apartment, there was only need for one elf. She has since been returned. Yours shall be quite adequate. Besides, I don’t think I trust the elves whom work at Black Manor,” she said. She cast a look over her shoulder, back to Lucius.
“Have you eaten?” she asked him. “If not, perhaps… we could have a late supper together?”
She’d been a prized possession, a well to do choice for the wife of a man like him. Despite the fact that the’d been first promised Andromeda’s hand, he’d sooner spit in it than allow the muggle loving woman within several hundred feet of his home. Narcissa on the other hand, he’d held no complaints and gladly accepted the betrothal for what it was; a business transaction. A trophy wife that he’d come to learn would be much more valuable to him as she was, and not downtrodden like the majority of women within pureblood families, cast aside in favor of the men. She was strong, beautiful --- intelligent, and like hell he wouldn’t utilize that to their greatest ability. “That’s to be expected.” Or so he supposed; Lucius was more than used to the distaste of others, so many being put off by his lack of tact and heightened confidence; all of which he’d worked for and earned, which might have been ironic in itself. “You just might surprise yourself, Narcissa.” He commented dryly, even though his features continued to soften for her. “Knowing what is in a mans mind is a powerful thing, perhaps it feels as if it would do no good now, but one day perhaps you’ll see that it’s all you’d ever need to ruin a man.” Among the ranks of death eaters, their mind was very well their greatest asset, and he knew it was no less so for Cygnus. “He’s not going to touch you while you’re here.” It fell with all the confidence he could muster, a finality that he almost dared someone to breach. A myriad of different reasons sprung to mind; his own leverage in almost every facet of his life enough to promise her some level of protection; something he didn’t too readily just hand out. “And if he tries it, he’ll regret it.” He paid little mind at all to the reign of terror he’d heard the Black patriarch had forced on so many. Most of it hardly his problem in the least, until it brought his betrothed so such an anxious state she’d agreed to moving in with him so soon before they wed. As she reached for him he paused, it was surprising enough all things considered but after a passing moment he reached to cover her hand with his, with little more than a touch before he drew hands from her completely. “You don’t need to thank me,” he was, afterall only living up to expectation --- something he’d become wholly used to growing up. Striving and surpassing any and all thrown his way. “My home became yours well before today,” He hadn’t wanted animosity to fester and thus had refused any compliance with whatever she might have needed. “Probably wise, I can assure you the elves here are loyal enough.” Insubordinate help wasn’t something he tolerated as such, “And whatever standards you’re expecting of them they’ll surely live up to. You might find yourself growing quite fond of Peely,” he had, ever since he was a child, but that was neither here nor there. “She’s quite a good cook when she wants to be.” Watching her carefully, as he had time and time again, not even Lucius had been immune to the beauty she’d always held. “I haven’t, I had intended on leaving for a meeting, but I’ve since owled and rescheduled, so whatever you’d like to do ---”
littlemissmckinnon:
The only reason she’d shown up was for the free booze and the fact that she hoped that some of her friends were present. If they weren’t then she had all intentions of leaving before she was sucked too far into the crazy. Marlene’s hands were stuck in her pockets and eyes straight ahead as she made her way towards the rather large house. A involuntary snort coming out as she realized just how large it was. Clearly, someone was over compensating.
Eyes spotted the familiar face she gave a nod of her head, “Seems like we might actually be running with more of the same crowd then I originally thought.” Marlene joked as she fell into step beside him. “How many rooms do you think are actually in here?” The question simple enough as she walked through the threshold and in an instant her sense were scrambled. The pies that her mother would make on the holidays, her father’s tobacco and the smell of the a fresh layer of snow. Eyes moving back to his face and a smile springing into place in an instant.
@lxciusmlfy
It certainly wasn’t likely, the Rosier manor well beyond what he already knew of the McKinnon comfort zone, and well within the realms of his own, if only simply to bother Evan. Peering across at her, the same award winning smile flashing as she moved to keep up, Lucius almost swore he caught a hint of honeysuckle in the way her hair shifted in the breeze and his already keen interest in the woman; all entirely self serving, suddenly seemed all the more important. “You and Rosier? Friendly enough to take up on the open invite? I’ll be damned.” He chuckled lowly to himself as the vivid sweetness grew the closer they came to the manor. He came to pause, his hand lifting ever the gentleman he could be simply to guide her through the doorway easily enough; naivety seemed pungent on her, Lucius almost certain that she held not an iota of knowledge as his own involvement in the brutal murders of her brothers, which really only made this all the more satisfying. “Knowing Rosier --- some absurd number, half bathrooms and all that ridiculous nonsense. He’ll probably be off somewhere, too out of it to notice if we go checked it out.” He might have rather do anything else than waste his time with the filthy blood traitors, but that thought was seemingly lost on him in the hearth of the grand manor.
littlemissmckinnon:
“Oh no, as far as blending goes you’ve done pretty well. Top marks if you ask me but we’re a tight nit group of friends, it’s easy to see the fresh-meat. Excuse the terminology. Plus you look like you were actually a few years ahead of us.” Marlene observed clearly not recognizing him from her own year, if anything he was closer to Marcel’s. It wasn’t too bad of an event given how quickly they’d tossed it together but in all fairness James and Lily had been a long time coming. “I’m just glad that they took my advice and sprung for the open bar else I highly doubt things would be so mellow here.”
“Fresh meat?” He chuckled deeply at the thought alone, all those even in attendance not willingly knowledgeable on how ironic that turn of phrase truly was, proof of it no doubt converging within the tree line a ways off as they spoke. “I was, but I work with a number of people here, my extended invite was common courtesy I suppose, but no less a wise choice on their part.” His date had been imperiused, but that was neither here nor there. Lucius’ often willing to dictate his own methods of being where he needed to be. “Your idea, huh? Perhaps i’ve finally run into the right person.” He’d lie through his teeth, the McKinnons were far from his idea of good company.

It’d already been discussed, and even without that particularly stern conversation with the Dark Lord he’d already well and truly understood how much better their standing would be if they could keep someone like Kingsley out of the minister’s seat. However, he’d intended to check the box beside her name for a number of reasons that certainly didn’t coincide with their cause, all of which he’d kept perfectly to himself. This world needed a little change, and if anyone was going to succeed in turning the wizarding world on it’s head, he without doubt believed of their choices, it’d be her. Lucius skipped the queue -- he didn’t wait for anyone, the near useless cane he held clicked soundlessly against the stone floor as his thumb traced over the serpents head adorning it, only momentarily pulling it free for those chosen to check his identity before it slipped back into it’s confines. Hesitation was for the foolish, and he held none of that within him as he checked the box that he’d not only been told to check, but had long since chosen, taking his leave almost as quickly as he’d arrived.
