Lee Jungshin for Cosmopolitan [1/2]
a shoulder to lean on → ljs & sjh.
Jungshin couldn’t quite understand why Seohyun needed to talk to him personally. He knew that Seohyun was joining along with them to supervise and make sure that they were moving furniture, but the longer Seohyun was in the room, the more Jungshin started to sense something was off. It was almost as if the Seohyun he usually saw at school wasn’t there anymore. So when he was able to get some alone time with Seohyun, he asked with concern, “What did you want to ask me, Seohyun? You seem a little bit off today.” Was it a good idea for him to tell him about his observations? Jungshin wasn’t quite sure, but Seohyun was his friend too. He wanted to help her in every way he could. Seohyun meant so much to Minhyuk and Jungshin wanted to do everything he could to help the two of them.
“…Did Minhyuk tell you about how he was scouted for TRC?”
“Yeah, he did. It caught me by surprise, but then again I would have been more surprised if he went for that other company. You know, the one that is known for their synchronized dancing.”
“Nova Entertainment.”
“Yeah, Nova.”
There was silence from both parties as Jungshin observed Seohyun carefully. He questioned why Seohyun brought up the topic in the first place. He felt that Seohyun should have discussed the topic with Minhyuk, but it seemed like she wanted his personal opinion. As Jungshin recalled the time when Minhyuk told him the news, all he could remember was the sheer happiness and excitement he had for his best friend. He heard about TRC and how difficult it was for people to be accepted to TRC so he knew that Minhyuk deserved it. After all, he did have a music repertoire that surpasses many trainees around his age. But as he carefully observed Seohyun, he couldn’t help but wonder if she supported the idea of Minhyuk becoming a TRC trainee.
“Do you want him to be a TRC trainee, Jungshin?”
“Well, I don’t know. It depends.”
“It depends on what?”
“For one thing, I’m not Minhyuk so I’m not sure if he wants to go back and pursue music. I’ve known him for a while and I think without you, he would have continued on working on films and documentaries. Another factor would be the trainee contract. I don’t know how the trainee system goes, but I’ve heard that quitting the trainee life is difficult especially if you don’t have a lot of money. There are other factors too, but those are a few.”
Seohyun remained quiet as she processed everything that Jungshin was telling her. Everything Jungshin was explaining wasn’t new for Seohyun though — she contemplated each decision and action meticulously. Seohyun didn’t want to suggest Minhyuk something without knowing the consequences. She was known to be cautious in her decisions and even though this one wasn’t for her personally, she knew that Minhyuk’s decision would affect their relationship greatly.
Jungshin asked her the one question that bothered her for a while, “How about you, Seohyun? Do you want him to be a TRC trainee?”
Again Seohyun was quiet. She was afraid to answer the question that she opted to ignore and pretend that she never heard the question. However, time was coming close and it felt like any day Seohyun was bound to find out the results to Minhyuk’s audition. She had to make a decision fast and Seohyun disliked quick decisions.
“He deserves to be one and I know that TRC would love to have someone like him in their company.”
“But do you want him to be a TRC trainee?”
“I’m telling you, Jungshin. He de—”
“Seohyun, you. Don’t tell me if TRC wants him or not. Obviously they do because they want trainees who are talented and will stick with them in the long run. Please be honest, Seohyun. I know you wouldn’t bring up this topic if you knew the answer to the question so easily.”
“I—” Seohyun stopped herself abruptly as she lowered her head. The past few months was a roller coaster ride for her. While February was a time when she focused on their relationship, March was the time when she was at her lowest point. People were being scouted in Hongdae from left and right and it irked her. Seohyun was bothered by the fact that other people were scouted and not her. Every week she would go to Hongdae thinking that everything was alright — that maybe she didn’t need to be scouted. But it hurt her internally hearing that someone she knew was getting scouted for one of the top five companies. To her it felt like she was constantly stabbed. Every day felt like a reminder that she wasn’t good enough. The perfect façade that she upheld for so many years was gone and instead she was becoming someone else — someone so foreign and unfamiliar to her.
Her eyes became watery as she hugged Jungshin tightly. “I—I don’t want him to be a trainee, Jungshin. But I’m going to sound so selfish if I say that to him. I don’t want him to be a trainee for my own selfish reasons. I—I just don’t want to lose all of the time we’ve spent together. I know we’ve only been together for a short while but nowadays, I feel like I’m competing against time. I feel like I have to complete everything before Minhyuk finds out his results. I don’t like to be pressured to hurry up. I want to take things slowly. But how can I do that when he could receive a call any day from TRC?” The tears began to run through her cheeks as Seohyun whimpered. She kept all of her emotions hidden for so long and here she was confessing her emotions to her boyfriend’s best friend.
While Jungshin stood still in shock, he wasn’t sure how to react to the situation. He felt bad for all of the problems that Seohyun had to deal with at the moment. All he wanted to do was comfort her, but he wasn’t sure how. His mind was focused on trying to get Minhyuk to come, but whenever he thought of that he was left with one question; would it be a good idea to bring Minhyuk at a time like this? Seohyun was addressing the issue to him. She wasn’t discussing the issue to Minhyuk, so perhaps she needed someone to listen to in the meantime — someone that would be willing to comfort her when she was at her lowest point.
“Tell him that, Seohyun. Tell him that you don’t want him to be a TRC trainee.”
“But…I…”
“But what?”
“I also want him to accomplish his own goals too. I want to give him freedom. I don’t want him to be restricted because of me.”
“Tell him that too. Just let him hear your perspective. He’ll understand. It’s Minhyuk, after all. He’s the type that values communication and honesty. As the saying goes, relationship is like a two way street…or something along those lines.” Jungshin trailed off as he slowly wrapped his arms around her. He wanted to do what was best for the two of them. He wanted to give Minhyuk and Seohyun a sense of happiness that he saw with his friends. There was something about seeing other people’s happiness that made him happy internally.
Glancing at the wall clock nearby, Jungshin lowered his head and whispered, “Minhyuk should be coming back soon. Stay in my bedroom for now. I know there isn’t much, but when Minhyuk comes back I’ll tell him that you were asleep. I don’t think he wants to find out that you were crying.” He placed his hands on her shoulders as he gave her a soft smile.
Seohyun stared at Jungshin before returning the smile as well. Relieved that Jungshin was there to help her, Seohyun nodded her head as she quickly entered inside his bedroom to wipe off her excess tears. She was glad to have a friend like Jungshin — one that would listen to her and be a shoulder to lean on when she needed it the most.
last minute → ljs.
Several text messages were exchanged as Jungshin felt like he was befriending someone new. However, the person wasn’t quite ‘new’ in his eyes — after all, he was talking to the one and only Im Yoona, one of the female trainees at Nova. He admired her for her personality and her talent so he presumed that Yoona would be too busy for a man like him. She would be too busy practicing and debuting that having a mere conversation with a stranger was impossible. But as text messages were received and sent over the past few weeks, Jungshin felt happy. Being able for him to know that a trainee with such a busy schedule answering his messages gave a sense of happiness and satisfaction — he felt like Yoona was truly sincere and kind.
Yet as Jungshin sluggishly sat down on the chair, he allowed the makeup artist to do their magical work. There wasn’t much that he could do aside from sleeping and pondering over what he had to do for the next few days. So as he closed his eyes, he could hear some of the staff members discussing how they had to do a last minute change on the female model. They were hoping for a particular female model to join both Jungshin and another male model, but the female model fell ill. While the staff members were desperate for someone to replace them, Jungshin could hear bits and pieces of conversation. As he remained quiet, he eavesdropped as he found out one detail that struck his attention.
“We had to get a trainee to participate in this photoshoot. I believe she works at Nova. We have a strong affiliation with Nova so I’m glad that they were able to get one of their trainees to volunteer last minute.”
Jungshin furrowed his eyebrows as he heard their conversation, which caused the makeup artist to tell him to stay still. Apologizing softly over what he did, Jungshin reflected back on the words he heard about the conversation. The only Nova trainees he knew were Jongin and Yoona, but that was only because he rewatched the Nell music video far too many times. But as he contemplated over whom the female model would be, Jungshin shrugged over the thought that he would meet Yoona in person. To him, it sounded ridiculous — almost improbable. He was certain that Yoona had no clue how he looked like and had a busy schedule, so why would she show up to the photoshoot out of all places?
But as hours passed, Jungshin could hear unexpected noises as the staff members were bombarding someone with information over everything they had to learn about the photoshoot. Feeling bad that the female model was only giving a last minute warning over what happened, Jungshin wanted to introduce himself and make the female model feel at ease. However, there was also another male model nearby so there was a possibility that they would steal the opportunity and become well acquainted with the female model. It was a depressing thought for him, but Jungshin shrugged and headed towards the crowd. The closer he was to the group, the more the group spread out, thus revealing who the female model was.
“Ah, Miss Im! This is one of the two male models that will be with you for the photoshoot.”
Blinking his eyes in surprise, Jungshin knew that he had to recover quickly. Unsure if the woman even knew who he was; Jungshin tried his best to act calm. He introduced himself with a soft smile, “Hello, Miss Im. My name is Tur—er, I mean, my name is Lee Jungshin. It’s a pleasure to meet you.” He bowed his head before one of the employees dragged the two aside as they were given the task that they had to do that day.

{‘she chuckled at his words and reached out her hand, patting his head. it was really good to have him as such a friend to them} well, i’m just as excited too. seeing as i’d really like to have this little bundle of joy out of me than inside. {‘perhaps the way it was worded was a bit awkward, but well, she was not looking forward to becoming like an oversized helium balloon} yah! why do you sound so depressed? {‘she found it funny how he was always so mellow. even his ‘recuperation’ of this news was just so … calm} - {‘it remained silent for a moment as she watched him mixing his food. a smile rested on her face as she thought about the future that rested ahead for all of them} oh good. yeah, mine’s great too. wanna try? {‘she pushed the bowl closer to him and waved towards it, as if indicating he should give it a try}
(/usually pats weren’t the best gestures one should do with Jungshin but for Suzy, he was always willing to make the exception. Thank goodness they were sitting down or else he would have felt bad for her struggling to pat his head) It will happen in a matter of time, Suzy. (/he chuckles softly until Suzy noticed his depressed self) It’s an old habit of mines. Sometimes these habits are difficult to remove. (/at this point he now thinks it’s awkward that he brought it up earlier but sometimes his negative thoughts would kick in especially that he used to do this so much during high school) Oh, I’d love to try. You can try mines too. It’s a fair trade. (/he gives a smile, but a forced smile. Nonetheless he takes a small bite of the food and thankfully not too small either.) Mmm…that isn’t too bad after all. Like you said, it’s pretty good actually. (/nods his head in agreement) Maybe next time I’ll get that for lunch since it’s really delicious.

{‘she smiled at him and nodded} excellent. then i see the child has a wonderful godparent waiting for his or her arrival. {‘she looked down at the food that was sitting in front of them, getting cold as they had been talking} well, let’s dig in. weren’t we both starving when we arrived? {‘she chuckled as she handed a spoon to him before picking up her own. carefully, she took a sip of the tofu, which was surprisingly still piping hot} mmm…delicious. {‘she noted with a smile as she looked up at jungshin} that bibimbap good?
(/he laughs softly at the comment) Yeah we were, but after hearing your news I’m not as hungry as before. I guess…you can say that um…I’m really excited. I thought for a while that I wouldn’t…experience this kind of happiness for a while. (/lets out a soft sigh but he doesn’t like dampening the mood) I’m still recuperating from the news. It feels like yesterday when we met the first time and here we are talking about your future child. (/he lowers his head as he stares at the food. Shortly after he begins mixing the bibimbap together and takes a bite of the food) Hm? It’s pretty good. I like it a lot. How about yours? Is it good?
A Song Sung By Two ❈ Jungshin & Dara
One leg propped over the other, she was humming absentmindedly as she took a generous sip from her mug. In the midst of the stressful weeks, she hadn’t been able to afford even a second of a moment to breathe, let alone appreciate the summer weather rolling in. The view out the window was pleasant, the trees in full bloom with their green foliage that swayed to and fro in the gentle breeze, a sky vivid in color that even her eyes couldn’t seem to believe that it was for real. The serene silence was pure bliss, almost overwhelming in a good way, and for once she was in a genuinely happy mood.
The soft knock that was delivered to the door however brought her away from Dara’s little paradise back to actual reality - that no, she was still at work, not standing on her apartment balcony. Setting her tea down with a sigh, her expression softened into one of slight surprise and recognition at the male voice that filtered through the wooden door. Oh.
“Come on in,” Dara called out, her voice ringing with warmth, turning her attention to the entrance as it opened with a click. He had only been in one class of hers - a semester course on film study - but his hard work and knack for the class had her keep the boy’s memory in mind. The professor gestured towards the seat in front of her, a welcoming smile on her lips. “Have a seat.”
Ever since the gossip was spread throughout the school about his affiliations with certain students, Jungshin was at the point of desperation. He needed to know what kind of a mistake he was doing all this time if he couldn’t get the girl. So as he contemplated over what to do, he thought that it would be best to ask someone with more experience. The only problem is deciding who to ask. There were a handful of teachers that Jungshin wasn’t really close with, but there was one that stood out to him instantly; Professor Park. Hoping that she wasn’t busy at a time like this, Jungshin headed towards her office. But with each step he took, he could feel his nervousness kicking in. Was this really a good idea to ask a professor for some love help?
When he arrived at the front of the door, Jungshin hesitated for a brief moment. Exhaling a breath, he knocked on the door while thinking that this might be his only one chance to do it. As he heard a familiar voice, Jungshin entered inside and gave a slight bow. “Ah, hello. It’s been a long time.” Jungshin stated. As to what he wanted to say afterwards, well, Jungshin was at a complete blank. Seeing that he was motioned to sit down, Jungshin took the seat nearby and stared at what was behind Professor Park. “Um…uh…Professor, I was hoping if you can…uh…help me…with something.” Jungshin tried his best to explain, but his mind was still reciprocating from the temporary blank moment.
Jungshin continued on, “I mean…I uh…thought you would be the best to ask since you seem to know something about romantic relationships.”

{‘Suzy looked up at him, a bright smile filling her face as she nodded} well, of course. you’re one of the few people who have been so good to both me and woobin, and well, even if we got off to a funny start, i can’t really imagine life without you anymore. {‘she realized that sounded a bit strange, but he knew what she meant hopefully. she didn’t mean it in any sort of romantic way, obviously} don’t worry. as long as you dote on the little one, that’s all you have to do. {‘she didn’t even know what being a godparent meant, but it always seemed to be a big honor to those who were asked to be one} we’re going to try to be the best parents, that’s for sure. i don’t think this child is going to lack affection from anyone in anyway. {‘she smiled just thinking about how many people would love on the child. she just had to make sure they didn’t end up spoiling him or her rotten}
(/a smile slowly forms in his lips as he hears Suzy’s words. For a guy who didn’t really have a lot of female friends, he did consider Suzy to be a special female friend) That shouldn’t be…um…too…difficult then. I can…do that. Well…I’ll do my best. (/there is a bit of hesitation as he says those words, but it’s because he had to think about a moment where he had to take care of a kid) I don’t think so either. Your child will have you two and your parents. They’ll certainly have me as well. (/he nods his head in agreement before thinking of whom else) I…uh…um…I’m not…quite sure…who else. (/he lets out an awkward chuckle. There were only a few people he knew but he had a feeling that they weren’t quite close with Suzy and Woobin)
