"You can’t tell me, smart girl like yourself, Alina that you haven’t questioned them, questioned their motives?" James knelt down to her and said, "Alina, I know this is hard to believe but why don’t we take the test and just see, then you can go back to Hydra and I will leave you alone."

Alina felt the anger in her. Why would anyone question HYDRA? They had raised her, taken care of her...They wouldn't hide anything from her. But what if they had? "Fine."

"I don’t believe your father’s name being Barnes and you being made part of Hydra to be a coincidence Alina," James explained to her. "I don’t remember ever having a child, but they could have used my DNA somehow, I’ve brought us here to find out."

"You aren't my father." She practically hissed, stepping away from him with a low growl in her throat. "He's gone and now I have HYDRA. That's all I need."

  "I am no enemy, Alina," James said as they walked into a medical building. "I am a weapon of Hydra, just as you are being trained to be. Now that we are here, I will be honest with you, I am starting to remember things of my life and I know for a fact that my name is Jaes Buchanan Barnes…"

Alina glanced to him with a slight frown, eyebrow pulling together. "Your name means nothing to me." She replied, despite the similar last names. No, HYDRA had told her that he father was long gone. They wouldn't lie.

"What are signs that you look for?" James asked her, trying to distract her a bit. "What are the tells of an enemy?"

"Someone who asks too many questions." She replied, turning to look over at James then. "Hesitation, curiosity...Much like you."

He knew the girl didn’t really buy his statement, but he had to try, he had to know. “Follow me then,” James walked out to the street and started to walk down the street, asking Aline, “what have your instructors told you about being on the look out, what are you trained to look for?”

She moved beside him, eyes glancing everywhere. "Anyone who might pose a threat to HYDRA's plans or try to resist them. Eliminate those who try to resist to solve the problem. Any SHIELD agent is to be exterminated on sight."

James felt his heart nearly seize in his chest, he knew the cruelty of HYDRA knew no bounds, but this, this was something else entirely. “Aline,” he had to think fast on his feet, this child was smart and he needed to act quickly, “Aline…you’ve been assigned with me for a mission…but first, HYDRA needs proof that we are together and ready, they need a DNA sample, why don’t we let them know we are together for the mission, alright?”

Eyes narrowed in curiosity at his statement, as well as confusion. Her instructor had never told her of this. But Alina simply gave a nod. "Okay. They probably told you since you're older." She reasoned simply. Despite trusting his words, she never once took away the curious gaze. Aline knew she'd have to be careful around him.

  This didn’t sound well, no child should be raised to be a weapon. Looking her in the eye, James asked her, “do you know who your father is Alina? Do you know who Hydra said left you?”

She turned her head to look more directly at him, her face completely stoic. "They said his name was Barnes." Aline didn't even seem to phase at the name. "And he's gone now. I have HYDRA."

James frowned and knelt down. “H…how could your parents be Hydra?” Looking at her stance and demeanor, “…What is your mission?”

"HYDRA told me my dad left me. They raised me and took care of me." She raised her head slightly, holding back the anger. Those who trained her had practically burned it into her brain that they were here saviors. "To kill any agents of SHIELD."
