Canonverse Attack on Titan while thinking about implementing reader into the lore. Imagine being apart of survey corps, you're one of their best soldiers / elite scouts. You're a squad leader, and then Erwin suddenly brings in a thug into the scouts and you're lowkey confused yourself as to why, though you and Erwin are good friends so you also trust his judgement with it.
Then maybe after Isabel and Furlan died, he was reassigned to your squad even though everyone was still wary, especially since Levi tried to attack Erwin. Yet again, you still trust his judgment. Maybe you're one of the people who accepted him eventually and understood his capabilities, and with that your squad members followed with some kind of begrudging respect, because even they can't deny the skill the man has.
You two don't honestly talk that much unless it's about work, so there was barely any development at first. But, you can see the quiet compassion he has for others and the slight aggressive way he shows care towards his comrades, especially during on expedition where you got hurt and he kind of saved your ass. Levi found it both annoying and alarming, but he still lingered when medics held you off from physical work because of a fracture, and after permission from Keith that time, you put temporary captain reassignment to Levi.
When Erwin became commander, Levi gets handpicked by him to become an elite squad leader of the Special Operations Squad. The two of you, being elite squad captains, somehow manage to get closer over the years. ( This is me losing brain power and wanting to get to the cute romantic stuff, ok? ok. )
It might've just been the smallest thing, because you know, Levi doesn't trust others that easily. But seeing as how you were one of the few people to have accepted him as is, you did earn his respect no matter how small it appeared. Being your former squad member, he had also grown to trust your judgment after realizing you did in fact know what you were doing compared to other people who looked like they just wanted to get out of a situation fast enough.
He listened to you when it mattered, You listened to him too. At some point you had also begun thinking about his preference of tea, and at some point he had begun to observe which food at the mess hall made your stomach hurt but you still forced yourself to eat them instead of wasting them. Cute little small things,,
But having to think about the fact this man was made for tragedy, it's hard for him to genuinely want to build deep romantic relationships with someone, because even friendships hurt that much ( Isabel and Furlan ) when you know that they were bound for loss.
Still can't stop thinking about Levi lowkey rambling to Erwin about his lil crush on you but also fearing of having to tell you about it
