This Vixy design is honestly adorable, and her little family makes it even better. James and Fox both look so cute, and I really love their warm fur tones. Vixy being a silver fox is such a cool and beautiful choice, too. I really hope she gets an game design someday, whether they go with a silver fox look or a red fox. Also, the contrast between Vixy and James kind of reminds me of the sun and moon, and it’s just really cute to me.

I wish we got more mentions of her. I know she’s estranged from her son, but I literally only found out she was alive yesterday. The only Star Fox comic I’d read before was the Nintendo Power '93 one, where she is dead so yeah, finding out otherwise was kind of a surprise. But the comics and games follow different stories, so it makes sense.

This is kind of a random rant, I know. I’m probably all over the place.

I did make an angst headcanon where she was dead, though. I’m still keeping parts of the '93 for that, just tweaking some details, like changing how she died instead of going with the whole Andross obsession idea. Just mixing canon with my own version a bit.

Falco Lombardi

Sooo, I started thinking more about Falco and his past.

Here comes my lovely headcanon. (Not canon btw)

He’s known for his incredible piloting skills and rebellious attitude, always clashing with authority while still staying loyal to his team. As a former leader of a space gang, he’s naturally anti-authoritarian, the type to leave and follow his own path before returning when he’s needed most.

Because of that, I imagined him having a criminal record from constantly getting into trouble and refusing to respect authority. Eventually, it catches up to him, he serves jail time, escapes, gets dragged back in, and becomes a repeat problem for the system. But despite all of that, everyone can still see his talent. He’s too skilled, too full of potential to just waste away in a prison cell.

That’s when General Pepper steps in with an offer. The Cornerian Army had already tracked down Falco’s old crew and gathered enough evidence to lock every one of them away for years in separate prisons. Pepper doesn’t outright threaten him, it’s more of a cold promise. Falco would’ve refused immediately, but the thought of his decision destroying his crew pushes him to accept. In exchange for working under Pepper, his sentence would be reduced.

Part of the deal is a tracking collar he’s forced to wear. No disappearing whenever he wants. No running. No being “free as a bird” anymore. For someone like Falco, that’s the cruelest punishment possible. He’s trapped, constantly monitored, and forced to cooperate because he has no other choice.

I definitely need to interact with the Star Fox fandom more, but I get shy almost immediately. I became a full-time fan of the series a few months ago, though I’d already been interested in the franchise back in 2016 too. I always wanted to get involved with the fandom, but I was too nervous to really try until now.

Now I’m finally posting things I genuinely like, along with my headcanons, and it honestly makes me so happy when even one person likes it. It lets me know that someone enjoyed what I made, or at least didn’t hate it.

So yeah, I’m going to try making more of an effort to interact with the fandom. Baby steps and all.

Starfox

My favorite designs so far are Fox and Peppy, probably because this render and lighting actually make them look good instead of off. Out of the whole Star Fox crew, they definitely have the strongest designs to me.

Now for the other two, Falco, I don’t mind that much. The design is clearly going for a more realistic style, and I do like the feather details. I’ll probably just need time to get used to his look. And Slippy... well, the nicest thing I can really say is that he has pretty eyes 😭 In this render he looks somewhat cute, but in most shots from the trailer he just looks off to me.

Also, Fox has such dainty little feet, and I love how Peppy’s ears are stylized in this picture. Like I said, these two are my favorite renders so far. Plus, Fox still actually looks like Fox McCloud. *side-eyes Wolf* *coughs*

Now with Starwolf

Pigma looks absolutely disgusting, but honestly that design fits him perfectly. I already didn’t like him, so seeing him look like rotten meat left out in the sun for 24 hours feels weirdly accurate. Leon and Andrew actually look pretty decent though. Chameleons are naturally beautiful reptiles (argue with the wall) , so I didn’t really mind Leon’s design. And Andrew looking a lot like his uncle Andross is something I actually like too. I mean, of course they’d resemble each other since they’re related, but it still works really well.

Now..

Wolf doesn’t even look like Wolf O’Donnell to me. Why aren’t his eyes red? And why does he look so boring and generic, like they used some random wolf design? I don’t even think the design is ugly or terrible, it just feels bland. There’s none of that sharpness or style that made him stand out before. I get that they were going for realism, but still. Out of the entire Star Wolf crew, his design feels the weakest to me. At least Pigma is memorable, Wolf just makes me yawn whenever I stare at him.

Comparing these two side by side is somehow making Wolf look pretty. Fox always looks good, though, so I don’t really mind his render/model. They even have matching eyes. 👀

Not even sure what they were going for here. Pigma was obviously meant to look ugly, but Katt? I genuinely don’t understand why they gave her white fur, she looks so off. She reminds me of a sickly alley cat, and I’m just wondering what kind of cat they even referenced for her design 😭 There are so many beautiful cat breeds they could’ve taken inspiration from.

Maybe future renders will help Katt’s design grow on me though, because the renders definitely helped me warm up to Slippy and Falco’s designs.

Have no complaints about these designs, ROB looks sick as hell. And now onto my third favorite character model 😁

James looks so good! I love how his glasses are part of the headset too, it makes him look even cooler! And does he have a scar on his left lip!? That’s so cool, I love that detail.

Even though I wish the this wasn’t another version of 64, I still want to compliment the models, even if I’ve criticized some of them. I’m honestly really impressed and already have a few favorites. It’s honestly pretty hard to make me genuinely angry.

The Star Fox Google Drive: The Zero Update!

i have a big update of additions to the 2016 folder of my star fox google drive in honor of star fox zero's 10th anniversary! there have been a TON of folders added (some still empty!)

but the biggest addition?

this folder right here! there are still some clips missing that i haven't gone through (the cornerian soldiers & the venomian bosses) & a lot of repeat files i haven't added for all characters (yet) but most are there!! finally sorted through almost all of them after acquiring the files through a mega zip folder link back in 2020!

i also have folders for renders, wallpapers, and more! including some fun activities from play nintendo (like an oragami arwing!)

i hope you enjoy all the new additions to the star fox zero folder on my google drive!! there will certainly be more to come (and i will make organization changes as i continue i'm sure)

I was just thinking about Krystal being taller than Fox and about the same height as Wolf. If she wore heels, she’d end up about four inches taller than Wolf. I just really like the idea of Fox being shorter than Krystal. She’s not a giant or anything, but she’s not exactly a normal fox either. She feels more mythical rather than realistic.
