Recently I asked my fiance to give me a daily prompt for me to draw my characters around as warm ups and practice- today’s was: “Claire stubs toe while trying to maintain composure while internally dying.“

I imagine she kicked the fire hydrant when she was frustrated and is now trying VERY hard to not let everyone around her know she immediately regrets doing so

today’s prompt was: “Claire laughs at a joke but doesn’t think it’s really funny.”

decided to add bother characters today, Sidney is the type to laugh a little too hard at her own jokes, while Claire just doesn’t really get it but is trying to not make her laugh sound like a pity laugh

today’s prompt: “Claire says something surprising. Sidney chokes on what she’s drinking because of what she said.” Claire has led a pretty colorful life up to “present day” in the comic, but I can assure you the dude who pulled the knife on her TOTALLY deserved to be kicked down the stairs in the first place.

today’s prompt: “Sidney smiles with glee at another patient walking down the hallway who’d been previously paralyzed.” Okay so the patient isn’t walking down the hallway (and i put a grand total of 5 minutes into drawing them) but I liked this one.  Sidney “works” in a hospital as a research neurologist gathering data for her doctoral thesis.  She mainly works with coma patients gathering data on brain wave functions that are too minute to be detected when the brain in question is “active” (ie- not in a coma (i have zero idea if this is realistic science or not please tell me cause i’m curious not because i intend to change it)) but she likes to check in on other patients as well and particularly likes checking in on patients in the pediatric wing. world building!

today’s prompt: Sidney loses her glasses/a contact lens. Sidney needs to wear glasses, but she isn’t nearly as blind as I am without mine- she can’t legally drive without them but she could get by without them, hence why she isn’t crawling around trying to find them with her hands.

today’s prompt: “Claire eats a giant slice of pizza and loves it’s cheesy gooey goodness!”

Claire hasn’t found a pizza place that was willing to make her favorite pizza [pineapple, anchovies, blue cheese crumbles, and triple extra cheese] in over five years. This is probably also the best day she’s had in that period of time.“ 

And for those who wonder, i do support pineapple on pizza but this pizza is a monster beyond saving

today’s prompt: Sidney sneezes, like a big grandiose achoo. With particles in the air

ran out of my time limit today, originally was trying to do that whole lip-stretched-teeth-clenched mid-sneeze mouth and.. it just wasn’t working out.. so instead today y’all get to see some of my underdrawings

today’s prompt: Sydney didn’t sleep much and orders a latte.

Sydney is a resident/fellow doing research for her doctorate at a hospital in addition to being a TA, her drinking copious amounts of caffeine will be a regular occurrence in the comic. And I really liked drawing Sidney’s hair un-tamed, she has A LOT of hair but was just too tired to care today (humorously this took me longer to draw than her usual hair style) Also, I am THAT person who orders this kind of heretical garbage at a starbucks.  I will drink the barista’s ire with my coffee like a free flavoring agent

today’s prompt: Sydney burns her tongue on the coffee she ordered in the last prompt.

this one is actually from last week, just completely forgot to post it so yay there’s two prompts today!

today’s prompt: Sydney donates blood and enjoys her cookie after. Very much went “off-script” with this one, Claire laughing like a super-villain over free cookies was too good to pass up on, so Sydney is definitely just an innocent by-stander in this mess. My fiance and I donate blood whenever we can, and she went to orientation for volunteering at the blood bank near us today, hence the topic.  You can do whatever you want, but if you haven’t considered it and are able, please go donate blood. Times are tumultuous these days and everywhere hospitals need more.  PSA over, see you tomorrow.

today’s warm up: Rocket Raccoon Watched the new Guardians of the Galaxy movie yesterday and I really wanted to draw Rocket haha ran out of time for the gun so it’s a little under-developed but you get the idea

today’s prompt: “Sidney oversleeps for work at the hospital.” Rather than try for a super over exaggerated pose (i try to do these as fast as i can) today I wanted to try to capture a feeling being as simple as i could be.  I was shooting for a “oh god i am going to be late and there is absolutely nothing I can do to be on time so do i try to be presentable and be later or do i rush to try and minimize how late i am” and the internal conflict that presents. I mean, <i>I</i> think I nailed it but that doesn’t amount to much since I made it lol

lyndal prompt for July 5, 2017 (cause i forgot to upload it yesterday: “Sydney eats nachos with cheese for days.” If you’ve ever eaten at a 7-11 and their nachos in particular, you know that you’re allowed to control the amounts of cheese or chili you can put on your chips; Sidney has been banned from more than one 7-11 for abusing that privilege.

today’s prompt: Claire discovers the irresistible cuteness of puppies and/or kittens. spent more time on that expression than the rest of the piece today haha actually trying to work within my time parameters today, so a little sketchier than usual but I had a lot of fun
