visxionaries:
It was with a slow, startling realisation that Cedric Tyrell came to realise there was not a part of him that felt a sense of pity for the situation the Lady of Horn Hill had found herself within; as though he had no space in whatever else was occurring within his heart and his mind, to contemplate feeling guilt for anything else would no doubt be simply too much - even for a King to handle. What was the correct way for Kings to grieve, how quick were they expected to get back upon their feet and continue the ruling of a world that was everything they did not want it to be, and more.
How in the dark Lynora Tarly truly was, was a matter he believed should remain hidden in the dark until they all drew their last breaths. It felt as though he were looking upon her beyond a veil of truth, as though he could see her entirely, and yet she could not see the full capacity of the truth. It was a necessary lie, now more than ever before; the Tarly numbers needed to be in hand. “Lady Tarly…” Cedric spoke, a part of him knowing and recognising that guilt that came with feeling as though one needed to try and explain things for a treacherous family member.
Who was the treacherous family member within House Tyrell, truly? Were they not equally steeped in betrayal at this point?
“I can assure you, I am wholly aware and accept the fact that you are in no means accountable for the words of your Lord Father.” His voice was firm, as it needed to be in this situation; there was no need for her own reputation to be tainted. She was a daughter, with a heart that obviously aligned with the love she bore her father - as well as wishing to see her family well. It was only natural, was it not?
“It would do you well to wipe away the notion you are responsible or accountable for him, to me or to any other member of this court. You are his daughter, and he would rather die in this matter rather than remain in this world to guide you.”
As he uttered her name once more, Lynora lifted her head to look at his eyes once more. She nodded at his advice. “I suppose that is true. His love for me was not enough...” That realization was hard to come to terms with. The sweet girl had such a big heart and for others to not react the same? It was a fact in this cruel world that she was quickly being taught.
“You..., I apologize if this is an awkward question to ask my King, but you have always been rather close to my family..” Lynora took a deep breathe before speaking again. “You don’t suppose that others might write me off for marriage, do you? Not wanting to be connected to my father’s name? I ask due to the fact that I know if a woman is written off in such a manner that her circumstances go south rather quickly. We live in a world where status and reputation is very important. Now I’ve never let that fact bother me much but now it’s something I fear I have to be acutely aware of. With my brother being so important to you and your cause.. I don’t want to become an embarrassing spinster and bring shame." Her mind was working on overdrive, thinking of every possible way her life could go from this point.
