you know what we call this? being biased.

you can dislike a character and still admit that they're skilled at their field, but the TLOK/ATLA fandom is so hellbent on being the dumbest mfers alive.

Mako is clearly a very skilled firebender but fans don't know how to differentiate skills from personality. Mako was able to generate lightning while being bloodbent, he killed one of the most notorious villains by electrocuting her water arms, and he literally prevented a whole electric plant from blowing up.

also, Zuko was known for not being very good at firebending. he did get a lot better after connecting with the dragons but he's still far from being the best firebender. that's not to say he wasn't skilled, he just wasn't a powerhouse like some of the other characters.

Zuko is arguably a much better character than Mako, there's no doubt about that. his redemption arc is one of the best ever, and he's got a lot more depth than Mako. but the question here wasn't about their character or their development.

and even if we're judging by character, it's funny to me because they like Zaheer, an extremist who killed multiple people and left the Earth Kingdom in disarray and tortured Korra, leaving her with irreparable trauma, but they hate a 16 year old boy who didn't know how relationships work and fucked up trying to choose between two girls.

am i saying Mako is perfect and has done nothing wrong ever? no. i have stated in the past that cheating is wrong whatever the excuse is, and he deserves to be held accountable.

and HE WAS.

it's not like Mako was let off the hook. he was absolutely held accountable for his actions. both Korra and Asami broke up with him, and some of the other characters called him out on his shitty actions too. and you can see how much he's learned and grown in s4.

Zuko's redemption arc was lightning in a bottle (haha lightning) and not many characters can compare to that. but Mako still got a decent redemption, especially considering the fact that the worst thing he did was cheating and not, you know, war crimes.

An AU that probably won't receive much development.

The Fire Nation seeks to seal a marriage alliance with a powerful Earth Kingdom family, and well... Toph is not exactly the delicate lady they expected to meet.

That said, I don't have much free time, but I want to make the most of every second.

quick korra sketch because the new trailer has me on a chokehold.

(edit: this drawing as gotten very valid criticisms regarding Korra’s skin color, and I want to apologize for it. My intention was to draw her as seen in the trailer (with all the fire around her), so I put an orange overlay on top, making her skin appear whiter than she is. It was never my intention, and I acknowledge I made a mistake by posting it without care.

I am willing to take down the drawing if people want me to. But I also don’t want to take it down as if to pretend it never happened.

I don’t know what to do going forward. So please let me know if you would prefer for me to take down the drawing. I will happily do the drawing again without the overlay so it shows her proper skin color. For now, I’m adding this edit as an apology and to acknowledge my mistake.

I only ask for the chance to be better.

I love Korra, I’ve had a crush on her since I saw the series, and it was never my intention to whitewash her. I feel deeply ashamed for offending people and in turn, misrepresenting one of my favorite characters.

Please let me know what you think, because I don’t know what to do. I thank you for all the support this has gotten, but I want to make things right)

These are the very first paintings I made for Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender. I designed the art style for the Sonam and Tagah scenes throughout the film!
