nolan's half assed and insulting attempt at adapting the odyssey left me wanting to make a sort of continuation of my us/eurocentrism in fantasy worldbuilding post but specifically about the way us/eurocentrism affects not just original worlds but the way people adapt stories from different cultures
a lot of people (myself included) have already pointed out how nolan managed to make a greek myth adaptation christian, but it's not just the way in which the greek gods are treated like a mystery (which is so stupid because of how relevant the gods' roles are in greek mythology in general, but especially the odyssey) while literally having the cyclops and circe running around. its the way odysseus calls the underworld "hell", the christian influence seeping in even when discussing a central part of the mythology
it's the armour, the ships, the treatment of "zeus' law" as some kind of amendment instead of a cultural tradition
it's the appropriation of a greek story only for it to be stripped away if everything that makes it greek
so christopher nolan drilled into an active historical site to rig a scene, dumped a bunch of plastic skeletons into the ocean with no plan to fish them out, and ruined an actual Viking ship on loan from sweden and refuses to pay for damages. all for that garbage movie.
Swedish nonprofit alleges cost to repair replica was $6,000 but Universal ā which made $264m on filmās opening weekend ā has not stumped up
Concerns about prop disposal as filming on new Nolan film comes to a close | www.italianinsider.it
looking for a news outlet to pick up the archeologist drama over this but you can google the practical effects used for the cyclops and find the pictures pretty easily
Despite Moroccoās hopes that its film industry would reap rewards, the blockbusterās success will be tainted by controversy surrounding film
and it gets even worse
āBonehead had mentioned the tale of Keith Moon driving his Rolls Royce into a swimming pool and thatās where the concept began for this piece. People think itās a Photoshop job but we actually put the Roller in the pool. It was from a scrapyard and the back end was smashed in.ā (Brian Cannon)

ormund being a corlys stan and having him abducted to be daeron's hand presumably is throwing me too. first meria martell, now corlys. you can say a lot of things about ormund, but at least he can recognize a bad bitch. #ally #darkwoke
also sorry, but i have to laugh at how ppl were like "gwayne is going to be the dad that steps up!!" only for gwayne to be like "yeah, sorry, i'm outta here. my crush just died and i miss feather beds. i cannot deal with ormund's bs rn. enjoy the grooming. peace and love xoxo".
bit hard to infer things about the ormund/gwayne relationship from what we've seen, but i like how it seems to be a more fucked-up, less caring version of the daemon/viserys relationship (with daeron being the rhaenyra), down to gwayne being a deadbeat father figure and his war strategy clashing with ormund's.
and i love that gwayne is explicitly gay while ormund is both homophobic and incredibly gay-coded/campy as hell. gwayne's gayness being the thing that made him realize those were assassins is incredibly funny. ormund puking his guts out after calling rhaenyra squeamish is hilarious too. there's def a twisted homoerotic content component to all these hightower relationships and i love how camp the whole thing is.
