heya, thanks for stopping by my blog! i mostly made this because interacting on ao3 is a bit of a pain sometimes, and it's easier for me to take prompts/requests/questions on tumblr.

i mean this in the nicest possible way anon but i do have a life and a lot of the time tumblr does fall of my priority list very quickly lol

the past four days have gone like this for me:

sat: awake at 5:30am, family event for breakfast (lots of prep), went to a house inspection at 11am, met my family friends for brunch at 11:30am, rushed home, went to family lunch at 1pm (45 mins away from home), left at 4:45pm, went home, changed, picked up family friend, went to tillies game at 6:30pm, got home at 12:30am

sun: awake at 9am, long run at 10am, finished run at 11:30am, coffee/matcha run, went to bff's house for wedding planning, left at 2:30pm, rushed home, family visited at 3pm until about 9:30pm (i napped from 6-8), logged on to work laptop to finish off some prep for the week, logged off 2 hrs later

mon: in office at 7:50am, meetings until about 12pm, got a major urgent deadline with an executive director meeting for wednesday arvo, didn't have lunch break, in meetings from 3-5:30pm, rushed home, dietician app for like 1.5 hours (ran over), family visited after dinner, logged back on to work for an hour

tues: in office at 8am, finished my deadline work in between half a day worth of meetings and sent up for approvals at 5pm, also did not have lunch break today either, left office, bought bestie's wedding gift, rushed home, said bye to my parents (going overseas for the next 10 days), workout whilst clearing my insanely overflowing inbox bc it was anxiety inducing, made dinner for fam, have finally lay in bed to look at my phone

tillies thoughts a couple days late bc i wrote these on sunday, had a fat nap and forgot to post it.

okay i have successfully slept on the loss and had my first marathon block long run this morning and feel like i now have fully formed mostly objective thoughts about last nights game.

i also ended up seeing the tillies outside their hotel when we were leaving with our post run coffees and they all looked so genuinely devastated which broke my heart 🥺

firstly, i am so incredibly fucking proud that these women represent my national team. i am not a particularly patriotic person but they make me proud to be australian. women’s football has exponentially grown in this country because of their dedication, their resilience, their grit and their passion and i’m so glad i get to be a part of that history as a fan.

off the bat, that final was probably one of our better games all tournament. that being said, i have many thoughts about the approach that was taken to the game

1. joe montemurro can fuck right off by talking about how he didn’t watch our 4-0 loss against japan. imo that is a dumb asf coaching choice. you want to know your opponent in a grand final just as well as you know your own tactics.

2. so confused about the comment from japan about them being concerned about set pieces because of the height of the matildas compared to their team… i’m sorry if that’s the case why the fuck was the ball being headed as opposed to kicked for like half the game? i actually was fucking losing my shit in section 142 of accor stadium on saturday every time the ball was headed by a japanese player because i felt played af lol.

3. why the fuck is joe allergic to subs before 75 minutes. genuinely some of our core players looked fucking winded and his sub strategy was fucked. he needed to make substitutions MUCH earlier than he did and more substantial ones as well :/

4. on his sub strategy, i have many issues with his obsession with playing EVE but esp in the final. she’s a fucking time waster and not who i’d sub on when i’m 1 down with 15 minutes left on the clock.

5. i stand by my point about succession planning, i fear it was really fucking obvious how heavily we rely on the core players in our squad (kerr, foord, carpenter in particular) in that game and seeing the lack of confidence with certains player, particularly around shooting really rubbed me the wrong way.

6. on shooting - why the FUCK were we not shooting more. i understand wanting to dominate possession, and japan’s defence were fucking tough but it also felt like for so much of the game we were just wasting time making passes which were just getting intercepted by japan when we could have gotten a shot. honestly one of my fav moment was seeing kyra shoot from halfway down the pitch, it was absolutely not going in but it was a clear moment of playing slightly messy football which i think we needed a bit more of in this game.

7. wini heatley has been phenomenal this tournament but especially in yesterdays game. criminally underrated and i need to start watching as roma games bc i really really enjoyed watching her this tournament.

8. alana kennedy in midfield fucking moved me. i’m glad she got her flowers even though she didn’t end up winning the golden boot because i genuinely do think at some points she absolutely CARRIED this team throughout the tournament.

9. the reffing in this game was fucked. truly it’s makes me so mad. there were some clear calls that should have been made by the refs that were pointedly ignored and i do think that was to our detriment.

10. hearing the final whistle blow and watching the girls drop to the floor was probably one of the most devastating moments i’ve ever witnessed in my life and i actually did start crying.

all in all, that was truly a fucking incredible game to witness in real life, and i truly love this team with my whole heart. the amount of raw talent on this team gives me so much hope for our future and i just know we can go all the way, and i can’t wait to see it happen. genuinely considering going to brazil for the world cup next year despite a) not having the leave to do so, b) not having the savings to do so and c) not having the confidence to travel south america solo.
