ive always loved gyaru fashion but im not very good at it. ive tried to look up tips and tricks but i dont have a lot of money to spend on new clothes and accessories and im not comfortable wearing circle lenses so i feel like i never look like im wearing gyaru i just look like a girl with too much eyeliner. i thought maybe if i could find a forum i could get personal tips from actual gyarus. but i cant find anything like that. do you have any resources/tips?
To be fair, gyaru probably looks like a just bunch of people with too much eyeliner (and makeup in general) from the outside, hahaha ( > u < )
Papillon just released Volume 2, an issue that is geared towards beginners and has tips for saving money while starting gyaru! I also did a tutorial on cutting and stacking lashes for it ( o 3 o ) ♡
We say this in the mag, but I'll reiterate here:
One of the best ways to start gal is to study it! Look up different substyles and see what your current wardrobe best matches. It doesn't have to be exact, just compare to see what looks similar in style. Also research the history of gal!! It's important to know the style's origin to really understand what it looks like now. (neojaponisme has an in depth three part series on gyaru history [1 2 3] that is a good read! You should also look at old school pics/magazines/scans if you can! Here are some scans @kieliheart uploaded of a 1999 edition of Egg to give you an idea ♥)
I haven't posted this anywhere else yet, but I have a google drive of gyaru magazine scans from various internet archives that you can find here 💖 The more you look at gyaru images, the more you'll get a grasp on what looks gal. It's like training your mind ( > u < )
While clothing plays a big part in gyaru, makeup arguably plays a bigger role, so focus on getting that down!! You can find all sorts of tutorials scattered around the internet. If you feel like you’re just a girl wearing too much eyeliner, try focusing on lashes instead. Many of us wear upwards of two lashes on top and a lower lash, as well!

And you don’t need lenses to do gyaru! There are many gals who don't use circle lenses! To list a few examples:

@bambi_tan96
Lizzie also has a lens-less tutorial on her blog and Bambi did one for Papillon Vol. 2 (page 69)! 💕
There's not really an active forum anywhere that I know of, but you can join the Sekai no Gyarusa Facebook group or the 109 Gal Discord if you want to connect with gals and get concrit ❤💕 (Invites on Discord expire after a day apparently, so DM me of the link doesn't work!!)
Just remember, most people aren't good at most things when they first start out. It takes practice to get good at new things, so try to learn from tutorials/references/concrit and keep at it!! 💪💖
Hope that helps cutie, good luck!! ❤💕
[⁺🎙️✧] dear diary.
notes: personal advice for loa i've realized.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━▼
— Creation is finished so there is nothing you need to do. Accept that and persist in that naturally. Don’t ask me how you can accept something, just give it a try.
— Don’t force yourself to believe, assume or persist in anything in hopes of seeing something. You are not persisting to see change, you are persisting because change has already occurred. Persist and assume because it’s done.
— Also, If you’re going to do techniques, don’t do techniques to receive. Do techniques because they confirm your desires are already here. All techniques do is move you into the assumption that you really do have it, how soon you accept that determines how quickly you manifest.
— Your creation is already 1000% real. It won’t mess anything up if you take a break, spiral, whatever. Think of it as a real, actual, present thing because that’s what it is.
— Don’t accept thoughts you don’t like. If you want something, your only job is to stick to the fact that you have it.
— Detach. Don’t be thinking you have to affirm 24/7, enter the void, vaunt every single day. You already have your desire, there is no reason to be obsessed with not having it.
— You’re God. You don’t need to do anything and nothing/no one can stop you. Even if the 3D shows you stuff you don’t want to see everyday, you already have it. Even if you feel jealous or inferior, you can have more and better.
— Get comfortable with not caring about the 3D, period. Yes it reflects your thoughts, but if it’s showing you ‘x’, and you’re thinking of ‘y’, then it isn’t reflecting what you want (yet), so why are you letting the reflection of lack dictate your thoughts?
— Self-concept and developing a good relationship with your Godhood is not a technique. It is you giving yourself the respect you deserve.
