excerpt: the cost of his pain
Shaykh Muḥammad ibn Ibrāhīm Āl ash-Shaykh said:
“The seventh, the great issue, "is that the worship of Allah does not occur", nor is it conceivable for anyone, nor does anyone among the creation attain it, "except with kufr biṭ-ṭāghūt" (Disbelief in false deities). It is only attained when one disbelieves in the ṭāghūt.
The author derived this from "Worship Allah and avoid the ṭāghūt" (an-Naḥl: 36). For the verse indicates two matters: that you worship Allah and avoid the ṭāghūt. Thus it indicates two commands, the first being connected with the second.
Your attentiveness to the secret in that is that many people think that mere acknowledgment alone, or action alone, is sufficient. But the texts are contrary to that.
Rather, the verse indicates another matter: belief and testimony that the worship of other than Allah is kufr and misguidance. So whenever a person hesitates, even out of caution, his blood and wealth are not protected. Hence comes His statement: "Whoever disbelieves in ṭāghūt and believes in Allâh, then he has grasped the most trustworthy handhold" (al-Baqarah: 256).
From that it follows the takfīr of the mushrikīn. For if he truly disbelieved in what is worshipped besides Allah, he would act upon that and declare kufr upon the one from whom this action occurs, namely shirk.
Indeed, from the necessary implication of kufr biṭ-ṭāghūt is declaring disbelief upon the one who worships other than Allah. So if he does not declare them kuffār, we know that he has not worshipped Allah alone.”
[Sharḥ Kitāb at-Tawḥīd by Shaykh Muḥammad ibn Ibrāhīm 1/202-203]

Next month! It won’t be long now.
What is the world to me? What am I to the world? Verily, the parable of myself and this world is that of a rider who seeks shade under a tree, then he moves on and leaves it behind.
