gen v ep 7 analysis (mainly about marie)
this ep was soooo insane for a lot of reasons, a lot of moments people have been waiting for and speculating about and now that they're here, no one knows how to handle it lmaooo
in all honesty i think marie's position here is crystal clear! cipher is the big bad, godolkin is the solution, do what only she can do, only throwing herself in the line of fire, keeping everyone else safe in the process. when nobody lets her, she goes nuclear, because according to annabeth, the stakes are pretty high! marie hearing that SHE could die means the others could die, and that's not a risk she's willing to take! sorry! truly for their own good in her head!
obviously, she's missing the very crucial factor that: people care about her :( and they're not ok with just letting her die :( because they love her :( so of COURSE even if she violates them to such a degree they're gonna follow her in there.
i just REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY hope the show actually EXPLORES THAT and doesn't just leave it up to me, a random tumblr user, to write about it. i really want the other characters to understand just how much marie cares about them, to the point where she's compromising her own morals to keep them safe. which is like the worst thing to marie ever i think lol.
on marie putting so much faith in godolkin: i don't think it is a betrayal of marie's intelligence or caution to have her put so much weight on this plan. marie is.... SO desperate for a solution to all of this. to cipher, to homelander, to all the supe supremacy nonsense, because she feels deeply responsible for fixing all of it as this "weapon", for keeping her friends safe. cipher killed her sister and violated jordan, homelander tried to kill her and is the main threat (and might have succeeded, if my hunch about marie being able to resurrect herself is correct), and all of the supe supremacy stuff is obviously a movement spiraling rapidly out of control that directly contradicts marie's morals.
all of this is deeply personal for her.
if she can heal godolkin and effectively save all of her friends, end all of this mess, then maybe... she can just live with herself. maybe relieve some of the weight on her shoulders, the brutal self hatred she wars with every day of her life. she can prove to her sister she's not a monster. she can be the hero she's always wanted to be, in the end.
it is foolish, but she's young and desperate and is making bad choices because they feel like her only option
