āIs that all of it?ā Arthur asked.
āFor now,ā Merlin grunted as he stood back up, favouring his side.
Arthur began placing it all into the dark void of the duffle. āWe donāt know when weāll be coming back āā
āI know,ā Merlin growled.
Arthur snapped. āLook, if you have something to say āā
Merlin threw what he had down onto the examination table. āI did! And I said it! And you didnāt listen!ā
āBecause your choice was stupid!ā Arthur shouted back.
āWell look at how well your idea turned out for us, hm? Because it all looks stellar from my perspective. On the run, presumed dead and, oh yes, all of our past enemies want to kill us.ā
Though it was underhanded, Arthur sneered, āAnd you would rather them remain in the dark, oblivious to their own histories. Remind me again what happened the last time people were forced to be secret and betray their own kin.ā
If Merlin had any energy left to use to smite him, Arthur was pretty sure he would have. As it was, his glare was nearly enough to make him second guess everything.
He didnāt want this to be how their reunion was, and he knew Merlin didnāt either, but emotions and feelings were so strong and hurt, it was hard for either of them not to lash out.
I did it for you, Arthur wanted to say. Youāre my best friend and I couldnāt bear to lose you.
