I remember owning this issue of Interview magazine in the 90s and being so drawn to these images of Denzel Washington. Herb Ritts was able to capture a sensual and simple elegance that came through; and I actually used these pictures as part of a template for creating my own personal style.

I believe he was promoting the movie Philadelphia at the time and he was very candid about his role and dealing with his own issues with AIDS and overcoming his own homophobia. Hopefully with age he’s been able to evolve and become that gentleman that I know he has been striving for.
