What They Don't Tell You
When they diagnose you with a Chronic Illness they tell you the symptoms, the side effects, how it can progressively get worse, what treatment is available, hell they’ll even suggest what to eat but what they don’t tell you while you’re sitting across from them is how hard the rest of your life suddenly becomes.
They don’t tell you all your favourite hobbies that required a lot of energy might as well be tossed to the side.
They don’t tell you all your life goals and dreams get jumbled up and switched around and some even need to be put on the back burners until you’ve found a way to manage your symptoms.
They don’t tell you how every day from here on out is going to be an uphill battle with two wounded legs and the weight of the world on your back. And that there will be people telling you “You don’t look sick” or “You just have to power through it” or my personal favourite “My relative has a similar disease and she runs 8 marathons a year and eats nothing but kale”.
They don’t tell you how lonely you’re going to be. Your chronic illness gets in the way of hangouts, meetings, school, your job and the only socialisation you’ll be getting is from text messages or phone calls and that’s if your friends remember you- because they haven’t seen you in so long. Or worse they’ve stopped inviting you because you “can’t come out to play” because something hurts.
I’m learning all of this on my own. I’m learning how to live with a disease I didn’t think I would in a million years have. I was completely blindsided with how much this was going to take out of me.
I’m sitting here in tears because I miss being able to get out of bed and just do things. Because my body hurts. Because I miss my friends. Because I’m starting to think they aren’t going to be my friends in the next few days, hours, or minutes.
It sucks and it hurts. I hurt physically and mentally and I just want it to all go away.
Endometriosis in a nutshell

Fatigue is such a struggle with chronic illness!
Ok so
I have a disease where my body produces cells that grow in the wrong place. They grow on my bowels and intestines. This causes severe pain, chronic fatigue, dizziness and lightheartedness, infertility, hormonal issues, and other symptoms that impact my life on a daily basis.
In just that context it sounds serious.
But when I give it condition its proper name–endometriosis–people roll their eyes. People say “oh it’s just a period, everyone with a uterus has to deal with periods, periods suck, toughen up.” People insult me when I say I can’t get out of bed I can’t stand up or keep food down or function.
Endometriosis is serious. It’s debilitating. It’s not just “a bad period.” Please don’t make people with endometriosis feel like they have to justify their symptoms. Please understand the awful reality of this condition
I would love for people to actually understand what endometriosis is like. Not feel what it's like because I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy but just to understand that it's more than a bad period. But honestly most people don't understand something until they've gone through it themselves.

Sympathy is only for the able.
People only care that you are sick as long as you are going to get better. Once they find out it is a forever thing, their sympathy suddenly has an expiration date.
It's like people don't know what to say when you're sick other than, "I hope you get to feeling better." Sorry honey, but I'm not going to get any better.
I'm so damn tired.
I’m tired. So so very tired. I’m tired of the bleeding. I’m tired of the cramps. I’m tired of being sick. I’m tired of being a 50 year old in a 21 year olds body. I’m tired of not being able to go out. I’m tired of trying to explain to my friends why I don’t won’t to go out. I’m tired of not being able to make it to class. I’m tired of calling in sick to work. I’m tired of crying myself to sleep at night. I’m tired of pain pills. I’m tired of monthly shots that make me a menopausal bitch. I’m tired of a purse full of medication. I’m tired of hearing I’m sorry. I’m tired of feeling sorry for myself. I’m damn sure tired of the pain. I’m tired of, “let’s look at some other options”. I’m tired of being a woman with this disease. I’m tired of there not being a cure. I’m tired of endometriosis. I’m so damn tired and I just wish I could sleep.
