The Vixen VS. The Virgin Mary
A vixen is defined as a spirited or fierce woman, especially one seen as sexually attractive. Helen lays in the hospital, severely depressed and unwell after child birth, but because she is unresponsive to the MALE doctor and her husband, he compares her to a vixen. The Virgin Mary is another comparison to Helen within the SAME SCENE and how she SHOULD be acting.
This is basically a critique on women as a whole from a man's POV. The nurses besides him were kept quiet or if they did say anything (and they tried) were easily ignored because they were just nurses and not in charge. This is also a critique on women in SOCIETY just in general. They aren't the ones in control and they never will be. They have to submit to whatever is given to them.
