Iggy struggling to understand his feelings due to the typical dilemma of not knowing if he wants America or if he wants to be America
Thanks Hima for opening my eyes to USUK. If it were up to Countryballs, I'd still see them as just another boring father-son relationship. Cold War Usuk and everything that came after is the best.
I just read a history buff (non-hetalian btw) compare the relationship between the UK and the US to Robin and Batman (specifically Frank Miller's version, for some reason).
Probably a coincidence, but it made me wonder, could it be that Hima didn't choose their costumes just for the sake of it?
Because of the very nature of the anime I always assume that Hima doesn't overthink what he writes, but perhaps, and only perhaps, sometimes there is a reason why certain things are represented as such.

America would never confess his feelings to Iggy because mocking/teasing him already provides all the sexual gratification he needs
Have you ever seen a commie drink a glass of water?
Arthur as XO Lionel Mandrake and Alfred as General Ripper from Dr. Strangelove.
i wanna go home
Sometimes I wonder what Hima saw during his time in USA to depict the American Revolutionary War in such an angsty way. Was he at a BBQ on the Fourth of July and suddenly thought, "Damn, this would make a great tragic story"?
The man treats other periods like WWII, which have much more angsty potential, in such a comical/banal way, but for some reason, what sparked his imagination was England losing one of his colonies (which at that time wasn't even his most important colony).

okay so I'm so late to this and I have no idea if ppl have said this alr but I've started hyperfixating on gangstatalia and I love how Hima portrays America/Hero in this au. Because from my memory/knowledge while hetalia has always acknowledged and talked about America's strength and power that he could use at any given time, he mostly either doesn't or doesn't realize the effects when he does. And this strength and power has a completely different connotation when he is made into a human being. While the character America obviously did work to get as strong as he is, there's always a supernatural effect given since he is not a human, so it feels more of a given that he would be as strong as he is. But within the gangstatalia universe, Hero being a human means that (in theory - I don't think we know how representatives are chosen?) Hero worked his way to the top. He had to be chosen, one way or another, rather than his country counterpart who was born into his power and strength. He is not only in The Big 5 of the districts, he's the biggest and strongest of the biggest and strongest, and he is the youngest sitting there.
I love that Hima portrays Hero as an almost villain-type in the story, obviously he still has our America's traits where he likes to be big, loud, and a hero. But, like I said earlier cuz I can't think of a better word, the connotation of him being a human makes his smile and choices feel more sinister and calculated. It's a smarter side of America that Hima has said he believes America has, but Hima hasn't shown much in the original universe. Hero is a threat and that is so so so cool to me.
hey guys wdym america says he's jealous that england is expressing concern for someone other than him and then picks him up and spins him around in the new hetamyu
mind my shitty screenshots. what the hell goes on
Stateside by PinkPantheress is so USUK
I hate having an internal monologue. Girl shut the fuck up.
Do you ever meet old friends that you love dearly, but it's like, one day you realise there's nothing common between you other than shared memories. For me, I was okay with that for a while but today I found myself feeling like I genuinely had nothing to talk to them about. So even though I still love them, idk if I can still be friends with them. But I can't lose them either, I don't know
Yeah. Before highschool graduation I told all my closest friends, “if we grow apart, I want you to know that this was still special and meant a lot. This was still important and I’m glad it happened”
And a lot of us did. A lot of us have. But it seems even though it can be a bit distant or awkward, we still care about each other, even if we’re different now, because we had something special even if it’s gone now
Like
The person I used to be still loves the person you used to be, and while they might be sad it’s over, I’m still glad to see you well
You know?
Feels like talking to ghosts sometimes. Kind of bitter, kind of sweet.
An overripe fruit kind of love.
