@mackenzie-owens
Jake couldn’t stop smiling. He was just so glad to see her after it has been so long since he saw her last. It sucked that she went to school so far away, but it made these little meet ups all worth the while. “That’s so mean. I actually thought you weren’t coming.” Jake chuckled to himself.
“No!” his face scrunched up and a slight pink came to his cheeks. “I was just caught off guard is all.”
“I know, I know, I’m sorry, I just really wanted to see your face when you saw me.” She grinned up at him, wrapping her arms around his waist. “It was worth it. You’re cute when you’re scared.”
And…..done. Jake finally finished his paper on market strategies. A smile grew on his face by the second, as he looked down at the screen of his phone. Not going to lie he was pretty disappointed when he saw the text that she wasn’t coming. He had cleaned the entire house just for her arrival, well except for his little make shift work area. Everything else was spotless. Even though she wasn’t coming texting her still made him feel better. Nothing else really mattered other than her reply to him. Jake sat there smiling at his phone like a dork and he couldn’t help it. He was so focused he didn’t even notice the figure standing near him.
When her phone went off he jumped a little and his eyes glowed at the sudden surprise. “Kenzie?” he wasn’t able to comprehend what was going on. . “Kenzie!” he smiled and gave her a hug before planting a soft kiss on her lips. “You said you weren’t coming?” Jake spoke just so happy that she was here.
There had been a time when the boy in front of her had annoyed the hell out of her. Every word out of his mouth elicited a roll of the eyes and a pursing of the lips from her, but now. Now she looked at his whole face lighting up and couldn’t help when her expression mirrored his. Now she saw his whole body straighten- lean and lithe, muscles tighten under the skin on his forearm, and all she wanted to do was kiss him.
“I wanted to surprise you,” she said, putting her hands on his face. Mackenzie smiled brightly when he kissed her, biting her lip when he pulled away too quickly. “Did I see your eyes glowing? Did I scare you?”
Any guilt she had for lying to him about not coming back to Mystic Falls over Spring Break flew out the window as soon as her car pulled into his driveway. Mackenzie quickly slipped out of the car and moved up the driveway, anticipation already building as she pulled out the spare key from under a potted plant. It took less than a minute to find him, sitting at the kitchen table with his laptop open, and, sure enough notes everywhere. He was staring at his phone, too engrossed in his conversation with her to realize that he wasn’t alone.
Jake really needed to work on those werewolf skills.
Before she could announce her presence, her phone beeped with an incoming text message. From Jake.
“Trust me,” she said quietly, “I’m the lucky one.”

Jake: I'm surprised you haven't tuned most of it out.
Jake: Okay, but I warned you.
Kenzie: I like hearing you care that much about your schoolwork.
Kenzie: Plus as a girlfriend i should listen to what you say, even when its boring.

Jake: If you want. I mean it's about market strategies which is really boring.
Kenzie: J, you realize that I'm practically an econ major with how much you tell me about your classes right?
Kenzie: I promise I won't be bored :P

Kenzie: Okay. What are you up to? Are you at home?
Jake: Yeah, I'm just finishing up this paper I've been working on.
Kenzie: Can I read it?
Text || Jake
Jake: Okay just let me know when you're in town.
Kenzie: Okay. What are you up to? Are you at home?
Text || Jake
Kenzie: About that...
Jake: What?
Kenzie: I've been trying to figure out what I'm doing this summer, but maybe we should talk about this in person.
Text || Jake
Jake: You and me both, but I guess I can wait a little longer. As long as I get to see you eventually.
Jake: I wish I could be there with you.
Kenzie: About that...
Text || Jake
Jake: I love and miss you too.
Jake: It's okay I know you'd be here if you could.
Kenzie: I know, I was just looking forward to this for a long time.
Kenzie: Everyones gone home, too, and i'm just sad.
Text || Jake
Kenzie: Love you. Miss you.
Kenzie: Sorry I can't come home for break.
Or get someone else to do it for you.
You offering?
No, no, this is my non-eager face. Because you know, I’m going to miss you — a lot. You mean a lot to me, Kenz. You believed in me, no questions asked and you looked out for me, when no one else did. You’re like a sister to me and I’m — I’m just going to miss you a lot.
Oh God, you're going to make me cry. I'm so glad I met you, you know that? Not just because of Ian, but because of you. Of course I believed in you, you're just... You're just plain good, Jules, the world needs more people like you. You're like a brother to me, too.
I'm always going to visit, and you should come to Chicago, too, I demand it. We'll talk, all the time. You can tell me about the coffee shop and everything that's happening here.
Who said you’re allowed to leave me?
I'm not, I'm putting you in my bag and taking you with me. This way I don't have to buy a radio. You can just sing for me.
Ah, the big day. Are you excited?
That's one of the emotions, yeah, it's kind of this big huge mess of feelings, I don't really know how to explain it.
I think I'm ready to go...
But I think there are some people I still need to say goodbye to first.
Just a few.
