jerre
joober, goober’s fit is based off this one pic
joober doodles i changed goobers design a little but it’s fine
bottom one is goob’e newer design or smth
i wrote another chocolate war fic but its just jerry playing football so i'll just leave it here ig
Don't Matter I Ain't Quarterbacky by macmooore
its whatever but i liked writing it
when you’re the biggest jerry Renault fan you’re able to tell that someone used the pics you posted of him in their edit❤️🩹❤️🩹❤️🩹
what if i said that i spent 7 dollars on beyond the chocolate war to only read jerry, goober, caroni, tubs, and other unimportant characters and didn’t read anything else
when you realize the whole reason for the boxing match was because archie was tryna jack off but he thought of you so he hates you for ruining the gooning sesh
the thing isn’t that i dont draw the chocolate war its just that i love the design i gave him while i first read the book, in the first one its evil castault grr i hate it but i can develop the way jerry is affected and then its jermile which is chill ig i dont hate emile but its fun to develop the fact they live in a 60-70s setting
Gahhhh chalyor brainrot I’ve loved you since may of 2024 (mainly Taylor cuz I love him. Lowkey like the style of the last one for them
respectfully can we be mutuals AND OH MY LORDDDDD THE BOYFIRNEDS
yeah, you reminded me to draw them again
i know that everyone in book is like scared of archie because they’re worried about getting getting massed bullied because of him but like what’s stopping any of the other characters from jumping him?
like genuinely he must be so annoyed to deal with since archie’s whole thing is that he thinks he superior than everyone because he can tell human nature or smth. like yeah man mob mentality does some crazy stuff also who knew that psychologically bullying someone breaks them as a person i never knew that.
plus like the 60s was filled with teen on teen violence, like they were just straight killing each other back then for like anything but mainly gang violence, so like why hasn’t Carter, as boxing and football president just get either group of those boys to jump archie because he does have a distaste for him. i also understand that without the Vigils, Trinity would’ve been protested down by students but like you can just choose a different smart guy who doesn’t get mad when people say no to him or just beat the guy you already have to keep him in check? obviously off school grounds tho
Recently read The Chocolate War by Robert Cormier, then watched the movie, and (this is going to piss a lot of people off) I think it may be the one and only situation where the movie was better than the book.
Sorry to the, like, three people in this fandom if that offends you, but it's true.
People act like the movie spits on the face of the book because it had a "Hollywood ending" but to be perfectly honest, it didn't really. Jerry still lost, even though he won the fight. He played into the evil of the school. This fact is highlighted by the fact that in the scene after he wins the fight, characters like Brother Leon and Emile (both antagonists and bullies) are clapping and giving a thumbs up, the crowd (who were rooting for Jerry's demise seconds ago) are cheering for him, meanwhile, The Goober, a character repeatedly shown to be moral, is shaking his head, and Jerry even sees an apparition/hallucination of his dead mother shaking her head as well. The movie essentially delivers the same message as the book without the overbearing and, frankly, demeaning cynicism of the book ending. It seems like, to me, people who preferred the book are the same people who will endlessly believe that dark/cynical endings are always more realistic, but life is more nuanced than that. An ending that is completely dark and bleak is no more realistic than an ending that is completely happy, and the movie's ending is neither of which.
I also came across a post with a quote from the author saying that his favorite character was Archie and that apparently "surprised people," but personally, it's not surprising at all. I was maybe five chapters into the book when I started to think Archie was the author's favorite character. It was obvious. The way every other character idolizes/fears him was unrealistic. I'm pretty sure more of the book was focused on Archie than on Jerry, who is, you know, the actual main character. Anyway, I don't care what anyone says, I think the movie was an improvement to the book. If I hadn't already been told that the movie changed the ending I probably wouldn't have even wanted to watch it.
Oooo i really like this take on the movie!! i never had much of a distaste towards the movie’s ending since its the usual to have the movie differ from the book but i never saw it in the way that the moving ending is more realistic and that makes so much sense in the way you backed it up!! its so refreshing to read new takes on the movie’s ending since the general reaction to it is that it’s a Hollywood ending but like you mentioned it isn’t because Jerry’s moral compasses aren’t happy with him winning and he really does play into the school’s evil
i feel like the movie does add/improve on the book since it does add more nuance and reality of the world. both do show that Jerry plays into the evilness of the society no matter if he wins or loses the fight and that if you try to break away from traditional even if people are wanting to break away from it people will hate you until you win or lose
notice how goober does not kiss Jerry back that’s cuz he doesn’t like boys but he doesn’t really care cuz it’s his homeboy and Jerry isn’t chopped
he ain’t got no money to pay for a sandwich or ice cream so idk why he’s even thinking
joober ❤️🩹❤️🩹❤️🩹 i am the biggest joober fan and prob the only one but its okay, qb x wr is so goated idc that’s perfect
me when a senior isolates me from the whole school to make me suck at football and holds a fight between me and some other guy and like makes me a saint cuz he accidentally kills me or something idk
lowkey blurry but it’s okay, btw, this is how i originally imagined jerry renault as but then i had to see to the movie, hopefully no one hates me cuz i thought jerry was black 💔💔💔
Is there anything you would change about The Chocolate War if you could?
i have like two things that i would change with the chocolate war,
this is one is really unimportant but i just wish there was more descriptions and details, especially of the setting. there isn’t a ton of descriptions of the characters let alone the setting and the traditions within Trinity, i just feel like if there were more details of the traditions of Trinity it would’ve built onto the whole disturbing the universe and i just like descriptions in general.
back peddling with the whole descriptions talk, i wish there was more descriptions jerry and his associations with other characters. i get that if there was work put into jerry, the chocolate war sort of loses it’s appeal. like, the whole thing with the chocolates was that there was always going to be a Renault. so obviously there isn’t much of a need to dive deeper with jerry so the reader can understand it doesn’t matter what about the character but that the reaction from what the character does is what matters. but im just a fan of jerry so obv i want to know more about him and his lack of friendship and how that affects him. also this is just me complaining that when i first read the book i thought jerry was black until i watched the movie because of the lack of physical descriptions on him beside that he looks confused and his height and weight
is there anything you would change with the chocolate war?
