“What? Are you telling me you’re arrogant enough to think that we’re alone in this world? That there aren’t other worlds or civilization beyond earth and that they’re not smarter?” asked Aidan seriously. “Well, mosquitoes is easy. I guess peeing is harder for girls, but that’s why the cabin is a good solution. Indoor plumbing.” He nodded eagerly. “Yeah, we can. I mean, we’ll have to see how much we can afford, but I can do research and it can be like a romantic trip for us.”

Maddie rolled her eyes, “I’m not going into this conversation again with you, I know better, because then we’ll spent three hours talking about the possibility of universes or something, might as well start opening an x-files,” she pointed out, “I can think of many, many, many better activities to do in three hours,” she added with a flirty smirk before moving to kiss him.

“Yes, we should just go. I’ll see when I can get some time off, before this crazy wedding season coming up. Where do you want to go though?”

“Yeah, yeah, I know,” said Aidan sheepishly, as he scratched the back of his neck when she said he knew what she meant. He had. “Sorry, about that,” he said. “No, not a real tent. That’s just asking to have something bad happen, whether it’s being abducted by aliens or being chased by Sasquatch. A cabin would definitely be best, but you think you’d like being in a cabin?” he asked her, looking at her. “Yeah, we could find somewhere quiet,” he nodded and watched her begin looking around on her phone. “You know what could be fun? A ski lodge. Up in the mountains, lots of snow, being cuddled up together by a warm fire,” he suggested.

Maddie laughed at his choices of bad things that could happen, “Right, aliens or sasquatch,” she’s still laughing at the two possible scenarios, “I’m just worried about the peeing situation, and the mosquitoes,” she shook her head. “Oh can we do that?” she looked at him with a hopeful look, “Ski lodge, cold weather, all cuddled up with a lot of making out I hope, away just the two of us. We can make it into a real vacation trip, just the two of us... I think it’ll be really fun.”

“Well, Harry Potter doesn’t have a theme park, but the Harry Potter park is part of the Universal Studios theme park,” Aidan corrected her. He still had a bad habit of doing that. “Yeah, yeah, we can do that. Find some place nice we can stay that we can afford together.” Aidan shook his head. He could not picture either them out camping or in the woods. They were both so used to their modern luxuries in very different ways. “Yeah? Might have to go up north for the mountains. Not tired of the beaches, though, are you?”

Maddie rolled her eyes and groan loudly at him correcting her, “I know that...” she whined, “And you know what I meant,” she pushed his shoulder a little bit, “Although maybe a modern sort of cabin or airbnb near the woods just for the experience and quiet can be fun too, but you know, not like a real tent or something.” she shook her head, Maddie was definitely not a camping person, never has been. “Tired of the crowded beach though, maybe somewhere quieter,” Maddie said before pulling her phone, so she could actually search some of destination choices for them.

“Yeah, we can go on a vacation,” said Aidan with a nod. “Do you want to go to, like, Disneyland?” he asked. “Or where you thinking of somewhere else way out of state?” he asked. “Could probably roadtrip up to north California. There’s lots of places to rent a cabin there. Although, I’m not sure how I feel about going into the woods. I’ve read about way too many people who get killed out there, and I’m not sure I could take on some masked weirdo if it came down to it. I’ve been watching way too much true crime lately.” 

“Ooh... Disneyland sounds really great, or Harry Potter theme park?” Maddie suggested, “I think it’ll be really fun. Or road trip is fun too, find a nice airbnb or a hotel for a weekend,” she continued suggesting more vacation idea for them to take before laughing, “Definitely not woods, I don’t think both of us suits any vacation out in the wood,” she chuckled, “But somewhere with mountains or a slightly cooler climates would be nice.” she said as she snuggled closer to him.

Aidan returned that kiss feeling all those usual feelings rush to him whenever they kissed like that. He sighed gently as she pulled back and smiled at her. “A vacation?” he asked. “Like go somewhere and book a hotel and all of that kind of vacation?” he asked with a raised eyebrow at her. “Where would we go?”

Maddie nod her head, “Yup, a vacation,” she repeated, “I think it’ll be nice to just go out somewhere, maybe like a road trip or something? A change of scenery just the two of us. We can spend like a weekend away from work and stuff?” Maddie suggested.

Aidan nodded. “Yeah, of course. I’ve always been patient with you,” he said as he squeezed her hand gently. He had definitely waited for her to be ready to date him and he would wait for her to be ready to get married. Aidan wasn’t going to just let go of her just because she was hesitant on marriage. It wasn’t as if he was about to propose, not really. He supposed if that’s what she wanted he might, but at the same time, there was no point in rushing into anything. “I know a good thing when I got it,” he smiled and then gave her a soft kiss on her forehead. “Anyway, we should go out tomorrow. Do something, you know? Have a date.” 

“Yes you have,” Maddie nodded, agreeing with him before she turned slightly and slung her arms around the back of his head, “You’ve always been patient with me and understanding, and all around amazing, and...” she smiled, “And I... can’t imagine my life without you,” Maddie told him softly before kissing him once again. 

“Hmm...” she hummed happily when Aidan basically said that she’s a good thing in his life. “Yeah that sounds fun, though do you know what we should do? Vacation. We should go somewhere different just the two of us. I feel like it’s been ages since we go on a vacation.”

“I know you were just trying to make a point,” smiled Aidan. “But I feel in making your point it kind of shows how you view the process in general,” he said with a small shrug. Of course, he probably shouldn’t tell her how she felt when maybe it really was just an institution or idea that she didn’t like. He looked down as she insisted that she was just uncertain about it. He smiled at her reassurance, though and figured maybe it was best left to rest now. Maybe one day they’d talk about it more seriously. She was right, maybe, for now, they were just too young and they were supposed to be having fun with their lives anyway, right?

“Well, yeah, I don’t know. I just want to make sure I haven’t scared you off,” he admitted with a sheepish grin. It made him feel better, though, those words, hearing her say it would be him she’d want to get married to. He returned the kiss she planted on him, letting their lips linger together. 

“Okay, okay, in all seriousness, promise to drop it now,” he said with a laugh. “So, we don’t have to think about it any more.” 

Maddie can’t tell Aidan that she will want to get married for certain in the future, because it’ll be a lie, but saying that she won’t get married doesn’t sound right as well, so she supposed the best she can say to him at the moment is that she might want it. When? She really couldn’t say. “No, you didn’t scare me,” she shook her head, “If anything, I don’t want you to think that I don’t want to be with you by saying that I might or might not want to get married,” Maddie admitted. Maddie rest her head on his shoulder, “Just... be patience with me okay? When you actually want to propose to me and I’m not there yet,” she looked up, “Just be patience with me, it might take me a while.”

Aidan shook his head at her. “I’m not trying to propose,” he agreed. “I just think you’re thinking of marriage as an idea,” he said slowly. “You said it all, how you see marriage is the pageantry, the dress, the cathedral, the veil, the bouquet… but marriage isn’t about any of that. In fact, if it makes you feel better, then we don’t need any of that, but I think being married is nice. You get to share things with this other person because your love is so strong that you just want that, you know? It’s not about any of that other stuff, it’s just about being able to call someone your wife or husband,” said Aidan. “That’s how I see it, and I’m not trying to convince you of anything here, I still love you, but just saying. Marriage isn’t about any of that stuff. It’s just about that love, you know?” He gave her a small smile.

Aidan went ahead and let Maddie pick what they watched and looked up as she went to get changed before sitting back down on the couch. “I haven’t freaked you out, right?” he asked now.

Maddie wasn’t sure how she really sees marriage as, she’s not exactly have the best example of one, and now that she works for a wedding planner who planned wedding for the rich and wealthy, maybe she does see it in a certain way. “I mean it was just to make my point, like maybe, one day, in the future, I might want it. Marriage, you know? Aside from the dress, the bouquet, the festivity,” Maddie paused again, “I might want it. I don’t want to say for certain that I don’t want it, or I want it. Because at the moment, I don’t know, but I might want it,” she repeated her point, as if she was afraid that maybe if Aidan thought she never want to get married, it might disappoint him. “I do love you. With or without being married. I love you and it has been you and it will always be you that I choose. So...” she shrugged her shoulders. 

Maddie raised her eyebrow at his question, “Freaked out?” she asked and laughed a little, “What? With your pre-proposal?” she shook her head and leaned closer to him, “Na’ah.. I guess if I ever get married someday, I’m pretty sure I want it to be with you,” she said finally before leaned to kiss him.

“Yeah, you’re right,” nodded Aidan. They did end up together and they had gotten there, regardless of how that had gotten done. Aidan tilted his head at her next question. “Well, I’ve always kind of pictured myself eventually getting married, yeah,” he said slowly. He didn’t want to scare her off, but he supposed there was no choice but to be honest about it. “I’m obviously not about to propose, but I’d like to think that this– us– are leading in that direction one day, you know?” he said as he bit his lower lip. “Yeah, yeah, that sounds good,” he smiled at her as she began to clear the table. He got up to help her out so they could settle down.

Maddie wasn’t sure what will be the appropriate response be to he boyfriend telling her that he might want to get married with her someday in the future. She supposed she should be happy, elated even, and she did, knowing that Aidan really love her and thinking about the future with her, but the part of her that still wasn’t sure about the institution of marriage, was still a bit apprehensive. “I’m not saying that I don’t want to get married, like ever,” she paused, “Who knows maybe few years from now, we’re older and wiser and I saw all of my friends got married, I ended up wanting the big poofy dress, cathedral length veil and bouquet made of only peonies and white lilies,” Maddie continued, “But for now, as we’re talking right now, I still don’t see the real meaning of marriage, because I think what we have now is all I need. I don’t need a piece of paper to prove that we love each other and committed to each other, because I love you and I can see that you love me every single day, and I can feel it every time you kiss me,” she smiled, hoping that it’ll be enough for now. 

Maddie started to browse their currently watched list and just picked one from the list, but pressing pause first so she could change her clothes into something more comfortable before settling down on the couch.

“Probably shouldn’t have assumed so much,” he said with a small smile at her. He listened as she tried to explain how she felt about marriage. “I suppose it’s not really important depending on the person you are, it is just a piece of paper. But, I think for some people, regardless of whether marriage is just a legally binding document, it’s symbolic, you know? It’s more than just commitment. At the end of the day, people can and do get divorced, so it’s not even something that makes it permanent, but it can mean something to be able to say someone’s your wife or husband,” he shrugged. “I think that’s why a lot of people do it, because it means a lot about their love, even if that love fades away for a lot of people.” Aidan went ahead and collected the Oreos, grabbing some milk. “I dunno. We can see what’s on Netflix. You in the mood for anything specific? Action? Comedy?”  

“What’s important is what happened in the end right? We’re still end up together anyway,” Maddie smiled at him. Maddie looked at Aidan, they were pretty young still, so they’re never really talked about marriage or their view about marriage, especially since they just got back together after few years broken up and just be friends, so this is a new subject for them. “Do you want to get married? I mean not now, like someday? We never really talked about this you know?” Maddie asked Aidan, she wondered what his view was in this matter. “Not really, we can just continue one of the series?” she asked, clearing up the table before she went to grab the laptop to check what series they can continue watching.

“Well, I never really said I wanted to date them in the first place, did I?” said Aidan. “You kind of just moved forward with that idea on your own,” he reminded her. “Yes, promise,” he chuckled. “You know me. I’m just a sweet guy, I could never stop being sweet, especially to my girl.” He reached out to take her hand and gave it a small squeeze. “No, I know you don’t have anything against love,” he nodded quickly. “I mean, that could happen now and we’re not married. I don’t think we’ll end up hating each other, though. We’ve been best friends for so long and now we’re just best friends who are in love. We’re probably more stable than your parents ever were.” Aidan got up. He was done with the tofu steak and went to find the Oreos. “Do you want milk with them?” he asked her. 

“I assumed, all by myself, that maybe you want to,” Maddie laughed, “You were so sweet and I wanted you to be happy and experienced a relationship, who would’ve thought that I want it to be me in the end,” she giggled cheekily a little. Maddie smiled softly to him, squeezing his hand back, he really is the sweetest guy. “I don’t say that I don’t ever want to get married or anything. I mean, I really don’t know,” she paused, “Sometimes I just wonder, is marriage really important? I think as long as we’re committed that’s all that matters, right? But if, one day we ever getting married, I think we should just keep it like in the City Hall, 30 minutes and done,” Maddie told Aidan. “Yes definitely,” she nodded, “So what do we want to watch tonight?” she asked him as she collected all the empty boxes and clean the table so they could move to watch something together.

“I don’t know if I managed to do anything. You might have done that more yourself when you kept setting me up and kept getting jealous of all those girls,” said Aidan. “You did that all on your own,” he teased. He nodded. He definitely thought they were meant to be together. He wouldn’t deny that. “Hey, I would never stop trying,” he insisted. “So, sounds like you don’t think you’d ever get married, huh?” he asked. Not that Aidan was planning on proposing any time soon. Wasn’t like they were even living together and they were still young. However, he liked to imagine that maybe that’s where their future would like one day, if they stuck it out and if they were really meant to be. “Oh, come on, even if I did raid your stash, I would replaced it and buy you more.”

Maddie laughed, “But you were so nice and so sweet to me, of course I ended up liking you, but I thought you’d want to date the girls I tried to set you up with,” she admitted with a small chuckle. “Promise me?” she smiled hearing that he would never stop trying to be sweet. Maddie shrugged her shoulders, “I don’t know. Like you know I don’t have anything against love. I love love, I love you... But marriage...” she wasn’t sure, “I still don’t know. What if we get married and we end up hating each other? Look at my mom and dad, they’re so much happier now that they’re not married, so I don’t know,” she really wasn’t sure and can’t say much about it, knowing she might end up changing her mind as well in the future, “Hmm...” she pretended to think for a second, “Oh alright, it’s in the bottom drawer in the kitchen, behind the sauces,” she laughed.

“Yeah, well, I don’t think you noticed much because you were really into trying to set me up with other girls,” he smiled sheepishly. “Although, I will say, if it started off as a minor crush when we met, but the time you were setting me up on the second date, I knew I was in love with you. Didn’t really want all those girls you were trying to throw at me.” He breathed deeply, like a weight had been lifted off his chest. “I thought I was sweet all the time?” he said with a small smile in her direction and chuckled. “You can kiss me later. And you aren’t bad at this. Not at all.” He poked at some of the fries before picking one up and popping it in his mouth. “Why do you hate weddings, though?” he asked curiously. “Is it just the weddings or you against marriage as well?” Aidan looked playfully affronted. “Well, we’re dating now! You should share.”

“Let’s just say I was very shallow when we were in high school,” Maddie admitted with a laugh, “But hey, I ended up seeing you very well and you managed to make me fall for you,” she pointed out, “I guess we really are meant to be together, right?” Maddie grinned. “You have your moments, but I can’t say you’re sweet all the time or you’ll stop trying,” she shook her head, pretending to disagree with that idea. At his question she shrugged her shoulders, “I guess it’s just a big hurrah that celebrates the most foolish institution on earth. I mean you spent tons of money for something that probably won’t last, look at my parents. Your parents. And bunch of other people in this world that end up splitting up anyway. I just think wedding and marriage are just... society driven thing, when being done without commitment it’s just a waste of time and money,” Maddie said, she does have a strong feelings about the failure of marriage after seeing her own parents. “And possibly have you raid my snack stash when I’m not around? No baby... I love you but not when it comes to sharing snacks,” she joked.

“Yeah, I mean, maybe not madly in love, but I definitely knew I liked you,” he said. “I knew that I would do anything for you and I knew that I probably loved you and that I didn’t have a chance in hell with you and I probably should forget all about you,” said Aidan with a small smile. “Yeah, but I don’t even know if most exes stay friends except in the hope that they get back together. I think we were always kind of destined to be,” he pointed out. “We’re not going to jinx it, I promise,” he said as he held up his hands. “You will not get fired.  You’re great at what you do, Maddie, just want you to realize that.” Aidan nodded his head in agreement. “Yeah, definitely try that other restaurant. Can’t be worse than this. Besides Thai food is always good,” he said. “Where are those oreos then?”

Maddie listened to Aidan and she smiled at his admittance, “I never knew that,” she said, “All those things, that you knew you liked me from when we first talked,” Maddie remembered when they first talked, and how she then convinced that she wanted to help him get a girlfriend, even though she ended up being jealous and end up liking him instead. Maddie grinned, “You know, you can be so damn sweet sometimes,” she shook her head a little, “I’d kiss you so hard right now if my mouth isn’t so full of tofu steak,” she laughed. Maddie shrugged her shoulders, “I supposed I’m not bad at this, and I actually like the whole event planning stuff, although it’s ironic because I hate weddings,” she laughed again, who would’ve thought, the girl who hates weddings and who doesn’t really care about marriage, end up working as a wedding planner. “It’s my secret stash! You can’t know,” she shook her head with a cheeky grin on her face.

Aidan looked up at her as she mentioned people falling in love so quickly. He bit his lower lip. “I dunno, I kind of fell for you pretty quick,” he admitted. “I mean, first time you talked to me in high school, I’m pretty sure I was…” He let his sentence trail away. “I mean, everyone is different. Some people know what they want and other people don’t and need to take their time figure things out, and these reality shows just push for things to happen no matter what. It’s all very artificial,” he shrugged. “Did you ever really think I didn’t have feelings for you still?” he asked. “I mean, I never thought I was that great at hiding it.” Then again, Aidan did have a way of keeping his emotions close to his heart. “I’m not sugarcoating it, I’m just saying, you’ve made your life work out for you, you know? Not everyone is going to live their life the same way.” He nodded. “Yeah, Thai food is always good. Especially if it’s authentic.”

“You did?” Maddie raised her eyebrow, “You fell madly in love with me the first time we talked?” she teased Aidan. True it does take Maddie a little bit more time to realized that she had feeling for Aidan, let alone admit that she loved him the first time around, and the second time was even longer. “Well we sort of became friends after we stopped dating and I wasn’t sure if you still care about me in what way...” Maddie said honestly. “Let’s not jinx it, we don’t want me suddenly getting fired,” she laughed, though to be honest given that it’s her, it’s possible. “Let’s try that restaurant next time then, and just finished this one, I think I still have a pack of oreo stashed around somewhere for us to snack on while watching something tonight.”

“Well, sure, no one’s saying people can’t actually fall in love on those shows when that’s their point, but all the drama that it takes to get there just doesn’t seem as realistic,” he shrugged. “Yeah? You really feel that way?” he asked as he looked up at her as gave him a quick peck. “Yeah, I don’t think I could handle people being up in my business and knowing everything about me, but some people want that. Some people choose that life. I’m pretty sure the Kardashians definitely did,” he added. “Besides, your life isn’t a bunch of mishaps. Everyone has their bumps and bruises, but it’s not all bad, is it?” he asked. “I’m eating, I’m eating. Just saying, I don’t know that I would eat from this place again. But yeah, probably marginally better than your cooking.”

“Although maybe all those crazy drama kind of heightened the intensity of their romance, which end up make them fall in love faster,” Maddie assumed, “Because I think it’s crazy how they just fall in love in what? Two, three months? It’s ridiculous...” she shook her head. Maddie wasn’t exactly a believer of love at a first sight to begin with. She think it never last. Just like her parents. “Well yeah, of course. If you didn’t tell me that you still have feelings for me, I’d still be miserable regretting why we broke up while trying to find someone else,” she nod her head, now biting into the fries again. “It’s a scary thought, to have people know everything about your life. No privacy. I couldn’t live like that,” she shook her head. “Mostly bad though, you don’t have to sugar coat it to cheer me up babe. At least, you’re the good part, the one that I do it right. Other than that? Up for debate,” she laughed. Even until now, her mother is still wishing for her to continue her study and get her degree, especially with her being a teacher and all. “Yeah, I don’t think we can add this one to the list of go-to place to eat. Maybe next time we should try the Thai place that just opened  near my place.”

“I mean, it’s a somewhat entertain hour of television, but if I’m being honest, I wouldn’t be watching it otherwise,” he said. “You know, I’m not judging you for watching that sort of thing, right?” he asked as he poked some more at the food. “Just saying. Besides, how much of it is real drama and how much of it is fabricated for the sake of the show?” he asked. “I mean, the people who go on there know what they’re getting into, I guess.” Aidan looked up at her as mentioned how how it was to date. “Well, you would know,” he said with a small smile. Aidan himself hadn’t really tried to date. He had been too wrapped up in his own feelings for her to even bother with anyone else. Aidan had a feeling he would be way too shy to put himself out there, anyway. He shrugged. “Might be, but they have to know what they sign up for, right? It’s a life of having your dirty laundry aired, even after the show is over. People end up following you on social media and tracking your every move,” he pointed out. “Okay, okay fine, maybe we don’t have the healthiest diets, but still! We’re doing fine. We’re young.” 

“It is really entertaining though,” she laughed, she does love those cheesy, easy to watch shows, especially at night as she cuddled up to Aidan. “Half and half I guess? Because there are some actual success stories that came out of that show, though I think it’s more made-up than real thing,” Maddie shrugged her shoulders. At his short response, she leaned closer to him “Lucky me that you still have feelings for me and save me from those nightmare,” she grinned before gave him a quick, small peck. “It’s a scary thought, tho, right? Having people know everything about your life? I mean I guess at least they’d have an interesting lives and not strings of mishaps like my life,” she laughed, it had becomes her own self deprecating joke that her life wasn’t exactly the picture perfect she hoped to be, not with her track record of being fired from her odd jobs and dropping out of college. At least she managed to keep this assistant job for few months already. “Oh just eat your food, we’ll eat an actual burger for dinner tomorrow. Beside this is better than my cooking right?”
