ever since maddox was little, he’s been a bit of a handful - to put it lightly. his mother always had difficulty with getting him to stay inside, no matter what the weather was, and as soon as he was old enough to figure out how to put up a tent, he spent most of his time in the woods behind the wallis’s house, unless his parents forced him inside. even then, sneaking out was pretty common for him, especially during his teenage years. 

though it’s only been a decade since supernatural creatures became public knowledge, maddox has always been a firm believer. despite being told he was crazy multiple times as a kid, he never gave up hope, not even for a second, and was absolutely ecstatic when the truth came out, for once proving one of his many wacky conspiracies right.

school isn’t something maddox is really at all interested in - his severe dyslexia and adhd have always made it a challenge for him - not to mention the having to sit inside for hours at a time, but the opportunity to be surrounded by the creatures he’s always admired pushed him to pursue turning his teenage vandalism hobby into something creative.

Lounging in the cafe, Channing’s eyes rose from her phone to a familiar student. One she hadn’t seen in what felt like ages, maybe he’d never made it out of that classroom she’d brought him to until now. “Well, if it isn’t oreo boy. Manage to find a map yet?” She asked, her tone teasing as she put her phone down.  / @maddoxfm​

“oreo boy?” it took maddox a moment to remember what channing was referring to, though a small grin appeared on his face once he put the pieces together. “nah. i decided to just go off vibes, ya know? i feel it out, and whatever class i’m meant to be in, that’s the one my feet will take me to.” with a shrug, he settled into the seat beside her, shifting as he got comfortable.

every single time astoria was in the human’s presence she found herself sighing. she only just managed to put up with chester and that was only in small doses. maddox was like chester only… more. more annoying if you asked her but that was subjective. “were you talking? if you were i wasn’t listening.”

“huh?” maddox turned at the sound of astoria’s voice, scrunching his nose in slight confusion. “oh, uh... yeah, but not to you. i was trying to get that guy’s attention-” turning back to the direction he’d been speaking before, maddox was disappointed to see nothing but a shrub left in its place. “damn it. lost him. any chance you’ve got some rabbit tracking abilities?”

she looks at him and the sudden change in his expression. her lips purse and she rolls her eyes, a knee jerk reaction despite the guilt that somewhat clouded her chest now. she looks at him then shakes her head, “ oh don’t pout about it. it’s not all it’s cracked up to be. “ safiye tells him honestly, unintentionally. after all, being what she is is what got her disowned and kicked out of her family at such a young age. she’d take being normal over that. “ it’s new years eve—- what is everyone drinking?   champagne, obviously. “  her tone changes, hoping the first part of their conversation is well over with. 

maddox never understood that, when the beings around him seemed to be so against the amazing gifts that the gods had bestowed upon them. meanwhile, he was over here having to struggle through life without fangs, without any dopes powers, without that growth spurt he’d been waiting for since the forth grade... and it sucked. “maybe we should freaky friday this shit. you don’t know how good you’ve got it, with magic capabilities and boobs. you could totally rule the world, if you wanted.” with a small nod, he looked around, his glance stopping by the bar, as he wondered how many more glasses he could get away with swiping. “come with me? i need someone to help cause a distraction.”

 THE  VAMPIRE  BROUGHT  THE  glass  up  to  his  lips,  letting  the  free  champagne  settle  on  his  tongue  while  his  gaze  trailed  along  the  crowds  in  a  poor  attempt  to  allow  himself  a  moment  to  check  up  on  the  mess  he  momentarily  was  avoiding  by  stalling  time  with  the  other.  feeding  the  human  compliments  and  being  entertained  by  unconventional  ways  of  partying.  so  far,  despite  the  tinge  starting  to  settle  in  his  chest  from  seeing  silas  and  his  stupid  bowtie  with  chester,  atlas  had  no  real  compliments,  especially  not  with  the  question  of  whether  or  not  he  had  something  in  mind  for  the  human.  ❝  luckily  for  you,  I’m  easily  entertained.  ❞  the  vampire  released  a  wicked  wink.  ❝  so,  don’t  worry.  ❞    after  lowering  his  glass,  atlas  motioned  back  his  head  towards  the  balcony.  ❝   let’s  ditch  for  a  bit,  yeah  ?  it’s  getting  crowded  in  here.  ❞

was going off alone with a vampire a good idea? probably not. but maddox wasn’t sure he’d ever heard of a better one. “yeah, super crowded, gross.” he didn’t really mind crowds all that much - they made it easier for him to hide, but he definitely preferred being outside to a sweaty ballroom. following atlas out to the balcony for a bit of fresh air sounded pretty ideal right now. “lead the way, man.”

in response to his words, finn’s eyebrows curve upwards. “ kinda feel like my life couldn’t surprise me much more than it already has, ” he comments in reply, shoulders lifting into a nonchalant shrug. firing a momentary glimpse toward the bag, he reaches into it and retrieves the first one his fingers touch—not overly fussed on the flavour, as such. by this stage in his life, finn was no stranger to ingesting the odd narcotic here and there. honestly, he would’ve even settled for regular gummy worms at this point in the night. although, the kind that contained a little something extra was only an added bonus. he gives a chuckle at maddox’s utterance before popping the gummy worm into his mouth. “ now you’re speaking my language. ”

“not with that attitude.” maddox shrugged, popping a gummy worm into his own mouth, and grinning back at finn when he seemingly began to get on the same page. “alright, yeah, now we’re talking, dude. come on, what do you wanna get into? first thing that comes to mind - go. i’ll make it happen. as long as it doesn’t involve me having to get on a plane, considering me like, your personal genie.”

most people would have said that this particular habit was one that should have stayed out of school sponsored habits, but he would have told them to get with the fucking times. bash was hardly one to support the outdated rules that society seemed to love to hang onto for some reason, but he did at least have the decency to look at the person approaching with at least an indication of surprise as he exhaled out the open window. “what? it’s fucking cold out there, mate.”

“relax, man, i'm the last person that’d narc on ya.” maddox held his hands up in mock surrender, before reaching into his pocket to retrieve a small pocket knife. “came here to wrap up some unfinished business.” after a few seconds of searching around, maddox found the windowsill that he’d begun his work on, and continued to carve into his tiny mothman inspired art piece. “got interrupted last time, they didn’t even let me finish his wings, and i feel like that’s just bad omen waiting to happen, you know?”

 IT  DOESN’T  TAKE  ATLAS  LONG  TO  catch  onto  the  fact  that  maddox  is  kleptomaniac.  he  can  see  it  now:  maddox  full  speed  running  through  florescent  lit  malls  from  a  donut  -  eating  cop,  arms  full  of  clothes  from  department  store  clearance  racks.  so  he  has  nothing  but  faith  in  whatever  plan  the  human  has  cooked  up  in  order  to  get  these  free  drinks  even  though  from  where  he  was  standing  he  could  only  see  the  other  chatting  by  the  bar  in  typical  maddox  fashion.  nothing  too  out  of  the  ordinary.  minutes  later  the  other  is  back,  like  he  said,  with  two  unpaid  for  glasses  of  champagne.  ❝  you’re  incredible.  ❞  atlas  didn’t  have  the  heart  to  tell  him  that  these  drinks  came  free  thanks  to  the  school.  instead  he  settled  for  compliments  matched  with  boyish  smirks.  ❝  what  else  can  you  do  ?  ❞

“incredible?” it wasn’t often that maddox was given an ego boost, particularly by a hot vampire with even hotter slightly evil vibes, but he decided that he didn’t exactly hate it. “thanks. uh... i mean, you might want to be more specific, because i can do a lot of stuff. most of it’s pretty unremarkable - i mean, i’m sure to someone like you, especially. did you have... something in mind?”

 THIS  GUY  WAS  INTENSE.  all  this  talk  about  swords  and  pirates  had  her  thinking  about  all  the  other  kind  faced  humans  who  went  to  school  here  and  whether  or  not  they  were  super  special  like  this  one  here.  why  else  would  a  supernatural  university  accept  humans  if  they  couldn’t  do  anything  cool  ?  ❝  yeah,  totally  !!  ❞  she  wasn’t  going  to  miss  an  opportunity  to  see  a  sword  with  a  dragon  grip.  all  that  excitement  seemed  to  drain  from  her  face  however  when  he  began  to  explain  what  other  people  went  around  addressing  him  as,  inky  black  brows  knitting  together  in  mild  astonishment.  ❝  hey,  you  are  not  a  hoodlum.  a  petty  criminal,  maybe,  but  a  hoodlum  ?  that’s  just  mean  !  ❞  

“awesome! just let me know when you’re free, and i’ll shine them all up for you and everything.” the smile on maddox’s face only grew at phoenix’s interest - it was pretty rare that he managed to find someone who actually seemed to care about any of the things he did, and it definitely wasn’t a bad feeling. “oh, i don’t really mind. i mean, it could be worse. i mean, some old dude once called me a rapscallion, and i still don’t know what that means. i tried to google it, but i don’t even know where to begin trying to spell that, you know?”

surely, most other people would find his … entirety endearing. however, with something spilled on her dress and her spirits already dwindling with her lowering champagne level in her flute, safiye was not one of those people. she looks at him incredulously. “you’re in a university for supernaturals and you just asked how i did a simple evaporation spell? seriously?” he rolls her eyes and inhales deeply. “you can get me a new drink, though. in place of an outfit change.” she suggests to him. what is left of hers is set on a nearby table then she looks to him expectantly.

“i mean... not everyone here is supernatural.” maddox shrugged, the surprised expression on his face quickly changing to one of disappointment, as he was reminded of his place in the world. “but thanks for the reminder.” being a human blew chunks, and as great as it was to be around all these awesome creatures... the constant reminder of how un-special he was, wasn’t great. still, she wasn’t wrong about him needing to make this up to her somehow, even if her dress was already fixed. and grabbing a drink definitely seemed easier than trying to fit into her dress. “yeah. sure. what’s your order?”

luckily, her necklace matched her dress. granted, most of her outfits were picked around the single piece of jewelry for reasons like this; a gasp is shrieked out from the petite brunette as the champagne splashes onto her dress and chest. she stands there, froze, with her jaw hanging open in surprise. “are you serious right now?” she exclaims and flicks a few droplets off.  she looks at him, eyes narrowing in both confusion and accusation. her gaze tags to his offered hand, then back to his face. “no, have you looked in a mirror? i’m not wearing any of that. and you are not touching this.” she huffs, then inhales deeply. eyes close and a hand rests atop the spill on her dress. within a few moments, a simple spell is murmured and the stain dries. luckily, her necklace matched with her dress.  “there. i fixed it. watch what you’re doing.” she bites out at him.

"yeah, i-” maddox’s guilt grew as safiye’s anger did, and he wondered if this dress had some sort of special meaning to her. he couldn’t totally understand how, seeing as there wasn’t even like, a cool dragon design on it or anything, but hey, not everyone could create looks as cool as his own. before he could ask, however, the stain had started to rapidly disappear, and his eyes widened as he watched as it evaporate completely. “whoa. how’d you do that? can you teach me? are you a magician? was i like, a part of your show, and i didn’t even know it? because that’s pretty fucking cool.”

“whoa! uh... shit. my bad.” maddox watched as the drink in his hand made its way from the glass... and directly onto the front of safiye’s dress. oops. probably not his smoothest move, but at just fifteen minutes away from midnight, it was also far from his first drink of the evening. at least it was champagne, and not something more likely to stain, though, right? “here, come on.” holding his hand out towards her, he nodded towards the bathrooms, coming up with what he believed to be a pretty solid solution on the spot. “we can go trade outfits, and you’ll look good as new.” sure, it’d probably be a bit of a struggle to fit into her dress, but he owed her a clean outfit, after ruining the one she currently had on. @morahlities​

PARTNER IN CRIME WAS PRACTICALLY HIS PRIDE AND JOY, when it came to nicknames, at least. Who better than the so called king of bad decisions, after all? The way that Maddox seemed to call to him was amusing to say the least, unsure if the invitation was truly meant for Remi or not, it didn’t really matter - he was certainly going to take it. Hell, he was unsure he could even get high anymore, but the challenge poised an interesting opportunity. Thought process was evident on features, painted across them, really, before amusement seemed to seep through. 

“Do people usually say no to the offer of free drugs?”  Question asked simply, seeming offended at the mere thought before he reaches a hand out, fingers purposely spread across Maddox’s hand for a moment before dipping into the bag. “I’m not even sure this works anymore, for me, but I am absolutely thrilled at the prospect. “

maddox shrugged as he held up the bag a little higher, allowing remi to take his pick of the candies. “the government likes to try and trick us into thinking that anything fun is bad. you’d be surprised at how many people fall for it.” remi’s touch against his hand threw him off a bit, momentarily distracting him from the point he was trying to make. “uh... yeah. it’s like... totally bogus, you know? the man is more harmful than any drug could ever be.”
