Ok so the Irish dancing in the road to Dublin scene. Part of the reason it comes off as so eerie is because Irish dance (and many other forms of Irish culture and expression) were banned by england and subjected to various penal laws to encourage assimilation into English culture. One of the big reasons that the hands are kept down like that was to avoid being caught by British officials and fined.

So remmick dancing like that while actively trying to forcefully assimilate and appropriate others’ culture is just extra eerie and twisted. It’s using a type of dance that was used as a form resistance to cultural assimilation as a means of assimilation. It feels creepy and wrong because it is. It’s bastardizing a form of cultural resistance and enforcing it into those he already turned
