Welcome to 2026! Starting off the year with a redraw just as a check-in on how far I’ve come with some skills! Plus, its always fun to dust off Honey and the other characters in her world; Ursula, Primrose and Dolly are really fun characters to draw! Part of my 2026 art resolutions is to draw Honey and Company more!
Old Version (Circa 2022) + Sketch (With Notes) Below:
Ursula changed the most, because in the original drawing I was following an pose/expression challenge and in hindsight, the chosen pose/expression didn’t fit her character. Ursula is a more stoic and reserved character, above the actions of her group and more a willing participant because she wants to be above everyone else at school and Prim shares that ambition, even if she’s a lot more of a confident, loudmouth showoff. She’s also the most threatening in a way, which is shown by having the most serious expression. Dolly may have the sharp teeth and Primrose might be the leader but Ursula is the strongest one and often the enforcer, since she has the stomach for it. She could easily be leader, but as her gloves symbolize she doesn’t want to dirty her hands. So just following behind Prim gives her distance from what they do, even if she is 100% willing. In addition, her outfit also changed because she was the only one who didn’t get an aesthetic refresh when everyone else did back then, simply because I didn’t draw her enough for her to be refreshed. Which has now been rectified. Same core essence of old money class, with a much neater and classier getup! She’s easily the richest, so she has to look the part.
With Primrose, I mainly tried to tone down the malice slightly. She’s not outright evil, she’s cocky and easily swept up by superiority - she’s enjoying herself but she doesn’t fully know what power she possesses - the Dinklings are just schoolyard level threats until Cozy Glow grants Primrose power, making her a right-hand man who doesn’t even fully know she is. Faced with the consequences she’ll realize that this has gone far beyond what she even initially wanted but for now she’s living for being the best and having magic. I also added her Cutie Mark as her brooch. Her real talent is coding/building machines but it’s a part of herself that she neglects for her petty dealings, eventually I’d have her become SciTwi’s apprentice and help build useful things. She’s a bot brat, as I fondly nickname her.
Dolly didn’t change at all, except for a better pose. Truly perfect the way she is. I think the only change besides the skill to execute her pose better is that she looks a little less manic and a little more playful. Dolly is only here because Primmy is family, she is not cognizant of Prim and Ursula taking this seriously. Dolly is Honey’s friend and Honey doesn’t hold this schoolyard grudge against her, she knows Dolly thinks this is a game and simply doesn’t let her know its not because she knows Dolly likes bonding with Primrose. When Cozy shows her hand and this becomes serious, Dolly is obviously the first one to deflect because this is not funny anymore. It even shows up in their colors - while Dolly and Prim are both smiling, design wise Prim and Ursula are more of a unit, with their purples and pinks and cool shades - while Dolly with her teal and green looks brighter and warmer, even if she does still blend in well enough.
As for the final version, what mostly changed is that I know how to color better, the colors look so much more rich and vibrant to me. I think because I’m less afraid of that contrast, the background is a lot darker which brightens up the girls. Also just in general I draw so much more confidently their poses feel a lot less insecure.
