Yes, this blog is considered dead, mainly because my love for mad father has died down and I’m sure the fandom’s has to, though I’m sure that there still are fans out there.

From what I know there is currently no plans for translation for the novel. Vgperson doesn’t seem interested in translating it! If there is ever any news of a translation, please let this blog know!
An updated version of Mad Father is out on Steam and Playism!
Continuing on from their release of LiEat, Playism has published another game translation of mine. Unlike with LiEat, this release of Mad Father has some more substantial changes beyond achievements. It may be somewhat comparable to the difference between Misao ver. 2 and ver. 3, though there was a lot more here that simply didn’t need changing. The primary changes are:
New scenes and modified dialogue. I also smoothed out the translation.
Map tiles were revamped.
Some of the art was redrawn.
Quality of life features were added, like a “!” indicator when you come near things you can inspect.
Some gems were relocated.
Button-mashing was changed to command entry.

Though Aya had a few things hinting at her madness, it's still hard for me to think that she still turned into something like her father after all she's witnessed. She was so compassionate to some of those ghosts, and after seeing what happened to her mother, you would think that she'd change for the better. It just doesn't make sense to me.

I felt like the true ending was a cop out for wanting her to be decidedly mad at the end. At least in The Witch's House you get hints throughout by what you have to do to lead up the the true, evil ending. Since Aya was a good girl throughout, it just seemed incomplete.

If you take the time to find all the little notes placed here and there, you can find out quite a bit about the characters and how their thoughts work. I think that contributed a lot to my love of the game.

Dio felt like a ridiculously unnecessary character. Or at least a rushed one. There was no buildup, no real means of connecting with him (or Aya connecting with him, for that matter) other than 'omg look, hot bishonen MUST SHIP'.

Strange as it sounds, Mad Father didn't impress me the first time I watched a play-through of it. But after reading so much more about it, checking out fan-art, and listening to the soundtrack, I can say it's now one of my favorite RPG games.
