@madforcomics-blog
Here are my notes from Tuesday, I sent you my doctor’s note for my absence on Thursday via knightsmail. Additionally, after reading the workshop submission description on webcourses, I see point 7 listing there was an attendance sheet that should have been signed and passed around in class. My group didn’t see one- we went out to the tables on the bottom floor to give our presentations. One of the members went up at the end of class time and said there wasn’t anything to sign off/ do, so we left at 10:20 with out signing anything.
Thank you,
Madison

Workshop Task: The Adaptation
Amtrak’s “See Something, Say Something”
My panels will be connected by train tracks and will be explaining situations that one should “say something” when they “see something” (which will be the situations I display in the comic). I will be including color in the final draft!

Discovery Task #9:
For my map I created a comic wedding invitation. In my invite I included the locations of the ceremony, pictures, and the reception. I had a lot of fun with this task and thought putting the map in the comic made it easy to see what I was trying to convey.
****POSTED PRIVATELY BY ACCIDENT****
Discovery Task #8: Collage Comic
For my assignment, I drew over a “document” which in this case is a page from the bible. This collection of verses describe how Jesus’s sacrifice saves man kind and offers us salvation. Over the page, I drew “by his wounds we are healed” with a nail, which is what they used to pin Jesus to the cross. I do not think I will be using the bible as a source for my adaptation project, but I enjoyed this assignment and all of the different possibilities of where you could take it.
Journal #4
For my adaptation project I want to adapt Amtrak’s “See Something, Say Something” campaign poster. I think making this a comic would be beneficial because then children could also understand a serious matter in a easier to comprehend way that would be less scary. By using a comic, there would be more room to illustrate various situations were someone should report what is going on where the one picture poster does not. However, two other adaptations I would be interested in would be the lifeguard diagram and the how to travel cheap article.
Discovery Task 7: A Conversation
Drawing 9 panels worth of content was harder than I thought it would be, but I was able to use symbols to describe it more so I think that was helpful to show what I was trying to convey. I drew panels describing my horrible allergies that are especially bad in the fall. The little dots are supposed to be pollen (?) but I’m not sure people will fully get that.... but I had no idea what other way to draw pollen so I used little dots for now. I think my comic shows how I deal with it by my second to last panel showing the items I purchase at CVS to help with my allergies.

My Evolving Process
Discovery Task #5
I tried to adapt Trump’s tweet about Mexico’s independence day. He states “Congratulations to all of our Mexican friends on National Independence Day. We will be doing great things together!” so I drew Trump along side a Mexican representative with them holding hands and the flag with the date in the back. I think my comic has a very positive tone which is what I am assuming Trump had in mind while writing the tweet. However I do not think I was able to convey the “future” very well in my adaptation, like how he mentions in the tweet. I am unsure how I would be able to do that though- so for the most part I think this turned out well.
Discovery Task #4
In this photo comic I tried to portray frustration... with the help of a friend struggling with their homework, it made the shots of the comic fairly easy! However, I am unsure if the reader will completely be able to tell this is frustration by just looking at the pictures. I knew he was frustrated because I was actually there to pick up on other cues indicating that he was frustrated, however I am not 100% sure if those will be shown clearly through my photos alone. Conveying abstract things such as emotions is hard, but I still enjoyed switching it up from the usual practice of drawing because taking pictures adds a new aspect to the creation process.
Discovery Task #3
My comic is supposed to show my wake up routine of getting coffee (right when I get out of bed). I start off the first panel with the moon setting and the sun rising as it is pretty early when I get up, and then I tried to show the sunlight coming through my window, and then cut to my alarm clock going off. After it goes off, I roll out of bed and then it cuts to a panel of my coffee, and then to me holding my coffee and ready to start the day. I tried to do the action to action panel transitioning! While I don’t think my comic is horrible, I wish I was better at drawing certain things, I feel like my lack of knowing how to draw certain actions limits me in what all I can convey to the reader (me getting out of bed for example could be confused with other things).
