My name is Mariah and Iโm from Vancouver, BC. Iโm 22 years old and I work for a health authority but my passions include music and reading. I love hearing and reading stories that can take you into an alternate universe and make you forget about real life.
The very first time I heard Taylorโs music, my cousin and I were auditioning for The Next Star (not that we were any good at singing but we just did it for fun lol) and I was 10 years old at the time. We had to choose a song from a few options so we chose to sing Our Song. I really fell in love with Taylorโs music and became a fan the next year in 2008 when I first heard Love Story and Fearless was the first album of herโs that I bought. Fearless was the very first album that made me believe that wanting to find true love and thinking prince charming was out there is not a bad thing. Thatโs what Taylorโs music still continues to do for me to this day, is to believe in true love. Growing up, Taylorโs music gave me insight into the complexity of relationships that I had never even experienced and when I eventually had my first relationship, her music meant so much more to me because instead of daydreaming, I now knew what love actually felt like and could relate to her lyrics even more. Because of Taylor, she introduced me to country music and if it wasnโt her, I probably wouldnโt have any introduction to country music at all and for that Iโm grateful. Also, she is the only artist whoโs music that I listen to where I can picture a story/scene going on in my head, almost as if I was reading a book and no other artist has really done that for me.
What Song Inspires Me the Most
The song that inspires me the most is Cornelia Street because it relates to my own relationship of 7 years. It feels scary to be in a long term relationship and knowing that the love I have means everything to me and Iโd be terrified if what we have ended and the song makes me think about if it did end, all these places that we claim โoursโ I could never visit without thinking about us.
The first and only concert Iโve attended of Taylorโs is the Red tour. It was also the first time I had floor seats and that experience was so amazing! Because Taylor had a B stage, I was so close to her and it felt like some type of connection that I donโt even know how to describe. Everything about it was amazing, the production, the stage, the props, the costumes. I had the time of my life singing and dancing and I hope Taylor comes to Vancouver again sometime.
Taylor, thank for you creating inspiring music that has gotten me through my pre-teen years, high school, college and now my adult life. Your music gave me hope that true love really exists and gave me an outlook and understanding on all different aspects of a relationship. Thank you for also not being afraid to stand up for things that matter. You truly use your platform for the greater good and thatโs what not only makes you a great musician, but a great human being as well. The effort you put in to have a relationship and communication with us fans is unlike any other โcelebrityโ Iโve seen commit to and thatโs why Iโll always support you and stand up for you. I think you are one of the greatest songwriters of our generation and I hope to tell you that in person one day and give you a big hug.
