Mummy Wrapping of Petosiris, son of Tetosiris, with Book of the Dead Spells, 300–100 B.C.E.
“This set of writings was meant to help the deceased's spirit successfully navigate its way to the afterlife, where it would become an initiated spirit (akh) and join with the eternal cycle of the sun god Re and the netherworld god Osiris. In later phases of the Book of the Dead (about 400-100 BC), scribes wrote spells on thin linen strips that were then wrapped around mummified bodies as part of the embalming ritual. Serving as an alternative or complement to papyrus scrolls, this practice brought the sacred texts in direct contact with the deceased, enveloping and protecting them.”

Museo e Cripta dei Cappuccini
The Capuchin Crypt is a small space comprising several tiny chapels located beneath the church of Santa Maria della Concezione dei Cappuccini on the Via Veneto near Piazza Barberini in Rome, Italy. It contains the skeletal remains of 3,700 bodies believed to be Capuchin friars buried by their order. The order insists that the display is not meant to be macabre, but a silent reminder of the swift passage of life on Earth and of mortality.
