finally finished and posted all of my artfight attacks!

im probably not drawing for a month lol

#wasnt too bad but i wasnt able to do as many as i wanted due to a bunch of reasons #but i feel like it was an educational experience plus it was fun

i am haunted by the giant rainbow tie-dye alien my dad won for me

Came across a YT short by an artist criticizing how some artists refuse to draw Black people (and people of Colour in general) and then those artists making excuses for why they're refusing to draw them. Got excited like "omg are we finally Progressing as a community?! 🙏🙏" —Nope! The comments were a cess pool, read every argument ever given as to why they "just don't wanna can't draw Black people 🥺🥺🥺"

The worst comment was a white person writing out a whole ass essay as to how scared they are to draw Black people for fear that the Scary Black Mob™ will ATTACK them for not drawing them EXACTLY CORRECT™ and like... There was so much to unpack in that comment. Just. the White Guilt was visible through the damn screen. The way people will just subconsciously assume Black people are aggressive and angry and they don't even realise 🙄 and worse when you call them out for it they'll start fucking crying about how they're x y z and just Don't Know™.

Like. I have to admit I have sympathy for having the fear of doing something Wrong and upsetting people, but at the same time, that's a learning moment? If people can tell you're trying then they'll want you to improve, and critiquing how you draw Black people can and WILL help you improve!!!

Yeah you can never go into the comments of anything safely fr. I've learned that. I feel like I've done a good job of creating a space here where you can discuss racism and generally be productive (I can't control everything). But like, on YouTube, Facebook, IG, tiktok? PSHT! It's gone be racism city in those comments!

#omg dont get me started on this topic #watched a video on good and bad character design and the person making the video pulled the ‘east vs west’ shit #to say that thats why western characters are ‘so ugly’ because they chose to represent and have black character #i clicked off so fast why is it that people cant talk about representation or character design without being insanely racist #he was also saying some weirdly abelist stuff about the uncanny valley idk its almost impossible trying to learn chara design without #someone being weird as hell

i really really hate seeing black men as portrayed juxtapositions to innocence and kindness in memes, internet jokes and the like. and seeing them proclaimed as “wholesome,” when they are just like. Being “human” people that aren’t being masculine in the way they are thought to be being exceptional and surprising ! it snitches on you! every time!

you gotta ask yourself, why does this idea of opposition effect you? why does a black man handling a kitten illicit that response from you? why does a meme talking about kindness and love with black men in the bg holding up gang signs feel the way it feels? what are these jokes saying about your humor? humor is a tool to interact with larger society, it’s a tool you gotta make sure isn’t being sharpened as a weapon in your hand

@closet-keys thank you so much for reminding me of my favorite videos on this topic. good context that is mentioned in this clip is also that demi is a short man (5’4”-5”), dark skinned and has locs so i bet he gets this A LOT.

i especially appreciate his insight on how it makes him feels desexualizing and like a fucking puppy because two things are happening here.

the desexualization speaks to the default image of black men in the social consciousness. they are “bucks,” “studs, “mandigoes,” and so on and so forth. the juxtaposition confirms the expectation of what a black man is and isn’t. black men are Meant to be sexual objects defined by aggression and desire so it’s surprising when they aren’t !

the feeling of a puppy, personally makes me think of the inverse of it being a dog or a cur. there is ownership here, there is an expectation of wildness and dehumanization. god it even has infantilization! it’s got it all. a dog is only good when it can be controlled, unthreatening, and malleable to training. that is how white women Especially see black men. and im going to also say that white queers, yall do this SO FUCKING MUCH, to black men it’s disgusting. whether it’s in fandom or in the news, it’s omnipresent and disgusting

watched independence day with my mom and i wish i could enjoy the movie but it reeks of military propaganda like more so than a marvel movie like its genuinely unbearable im sorry💔 i liked the acting in the movie and the design but ive never been a big fan of alien invasion movies because of the obvious right like the aliens just so happen to be evil and colonizing and want to kill all humans and conviently attack only american cities like omg just stop! and in these movies the millitary is always a bunch of hypocrites like the aliens will abduct a person, run experiments on them and then return them, and their evil, but when humans do it and never let the aliens see the light of day again or even discet them its in the name of protecting people. im sorry yall if you like the movie it was fun but omg bruhhhhhh
