“A curse?” The newcomer responded with surprise, it was not a choice but a repetition of what was previously said. Could that kind of thing really be sold? The ‘evil’ triplet wish it wasn’t one of those things like a possessed doll or something, that was really bad. This woman, Magda, was an interesting individual in Louie’s eyes. Why didn’t his uncle talk about her? “They can be a bit annoying, so something that surprises them?” A lie, he would never use anything to hurt Dewey and Huey physically or emotionally, but to get information one had to follow a role and watch the words. “That’s not gonna be cheap, isn’t it? How am I supposed to pay for a spell or a curse, ma'am?" The fingers tightened around the marble for strength, keeping his gaze so as not to waver.
Magda smiles slightly. “A curse, yes,” she says, eyes drifting to different herbs around her shop. Herbs and stones and powders and elixirs... “Often made with some simple consequences, I assure you. I’m not the sort of witch,” she says, emphasizing the word, “who would give out proper curses to just anyone.” She looks at him pointedly, as if scandalized at the thought. That her magic was simply sold at a market price.
Her eyes light up, and Magda claps her hands in a bit of delight. “Oh, I see! Well, nothing too dangerous, I’m assuming. A harmless prank, is it?” Of course she wouldn’t give Louie anything too malicious. She wanted him to trust her. To allow her some confidence. “What about something simple, then?” He mentions payment, and Magda scoffs. “Oh, please. You’re young, aren’t you. Save your money, dear. I’ll get you something small -- like a trial run, if you will. To see if you like magic -- yes? Now, what kind of simple, harmless spell would you like? Sibling squabbles can be quite interesting with a little... magic in the mix.”
