This week thousands of indigenous participants are gathering at United Nations Headquarters to discuss issues affecting human rights defenders, indigenous women and youth.

They will also mark ten years since the adoption of the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.

The Declaration is the most comprehensive international instrument on indigenous peoples’ rights and established a universal framework of minimum standards for the survival, dignity and well-being of indigenous peoples.
