Final Post

Although I really enjoyed the concept of this assessment and enjoyed components, I don't really understand why it is worth so much of our final grade. I enjoyed that we got to interact with other students and that each week we were able to discuss what we had learned. However on reflection I believe that I thought I was doing better than I actually was. I also found it hard to offer new ideas in posts because we were all following each other. Overall I enjoyed the experience of a different assessment type.

I personally learn via a constructivist approach but I think that it is student dependant. We are all different and we all learn differently, i think that schools promote both strategies to accommodate for everyone.

Can’t say it’s 100% relevant but this picture make me think of brain development during adolescence where you believe parents are being totally unreasonable when really they have probably made a decision to help you because your own judgement calls aren’t that great at this age.

Awatapu College

This school has a program for students that need extra support which also allows disabled students to integrate and participate with the other students.

Take a look at Red Frogs Invercargill facebook page it shows the friendships that connections like these can create. The youth are supporting the youth. Friendships develop and grow creating developmental paths for the youth volunteering. Volunteering in groups like these not only form friendships they grow youth into caring adults.

This is such a good idea, I am a girl guiding leader where i am with younger children which is awesome but i think it would be cool to volunteer in a program where youth support youth because you can relate to their experiences.

Totally agree with this but in saying that I think it’s easy said than done. For adolescents I think it would be so easy to follow what others are doing due to peer pressure and wanting to fit in

Single Sex vs. Coed

A new international report says single-sex schooling offers no benefits and may be socially harmful.

I am a strong supporter of Coed education, but i suppose that it really depends on the individual students and their learning abilities and habits.

Cliques are an important part of peer relationships and my experience with cliques was awesome. Our year level all had our own distinct peer group, which served well in the lower year levels, but as we got older we all become closer and by year 13 the peer groups were less ridged which allowed people to 'travel' between them and our year level became quite close.

90% of 16 year olds will have dated, between 8-13% of adolescents will experience physical dating violence of a serious nature and even harder to swallow 10-18% of females will be sexually victimised by a partner. I can't even being to fathom these statistics.

Peer Pressure is a very real occurrence among adolescents. I remember while at school seeing other students sucumming to peer pressure which saddened me as the pressured student was often the sole recipitent of the consequences of the while group's actions.

I got authoritative/positive parenting type. Its not the most scientific quiz, but a bit of fun none the less.

The make up of a family, the number of parents and/or sex of parents, isn't what what makes a family its those people's love and compassion for each other. With reference to the image above and family being a unit, a argument against same-sex couples having children is that the children would be negatively effected, and although I don't agree with this i think it would interesting to study the psychological differences of children raised with same-sex couples vs. traditional couples and even compared to children raised by single parents.

Birth Order

With respect to birth order and the characteristics of the children my brother and myself fit these perfectly. I am two years older than my brother and am differently more serious and dominant over him, while he diffinently is more social than i ever was. 

I find this phenomenon of birth oder and characteristics really interesting, and would really enjoy learning more about it and why these characteristics occur.

Every single time I see this image it not only sickens me but also saddens me..

This relates so much to the saying “think before you speak”. Especially at adolescent age group, majority of girls are very self-conscious about their size and how puberty is affecting them. Every little comment made can not only affect them emotionally but also physically.

Bulimia and anorexia are two major issues in the adolescent age group which are mental diseases usually begun by rude remarks which are not fair.

This saddens me, knowing that this kind of pressure is on our children, boys and girls alike.  When my daughter was year 7 there was a boy, hitting puberty, who stopped swimming because he put on weight and was consistently teased and bullied for this.  When he was made to swim he would wear t-shirts.  The thing is, he was earlier than the other boys (in reaching puberty) and they all went through this stage and not once did this child tease or bully the other kids.

Such a sad image, sadly shows how a lot of adolescents probably feel about their bodies.

Wow what a powerful picture!  While I understand the reasoning behind such a controversial photo is to shock people into discussing this issue, what I also wonder is how this image has affected the young girl.

Media representations and mothers have been linked to eating disorders amongst adolescent girls and boys (Peterson, Paulson & Williams, 2007).  The pressure that females feel to maintain a model like body can cause them to undertake drastic actions to remain thin.  Society and family needs to spend more time loving children, accepting them for who they are and focus on the joy and innocence they bring into the world, rather than moulding them to become something they think is socially acceptable.

This picture although very strong, i do also wonder what the effect on the girl in the picture.

This photo explains exactly what is happening to the teenagers of today. Our society and peers play a big role in the development of adolescents. Teens are pressured to fit into a certain mould and if they don’t meet the criteria they are mostly likely seen as not “cool”. This causes teenagers to become obsessed with following the crowd to stay “cool”.

Although i agree this picture does show the role society plays in the development of teenagers, i don't nesseciarly believe that being perceived as un-cool causes teenagers to become obsessed with 'fitting in'. I think if someone perceived as un-cool has a good alike group of friends and peers then they can be very self-accepting and possibly even more accepting because they understand the differences in people.

I am fasinated with the way peoples opinions on the mans actions change through the life span. And personally i can't decide whether Heinz should have broken into the drug store or not.

I think this is really interesting - questioning how the morals of different persons are determined and links directly to the morals of adolscents through to adulthood.
