After reading some of the upcoming Doomsday rumours, and as the wife of Peggy Carter, I have some totally unbiased opinions on some of them.
❝— The return of Peggy Carter and Steve Rogers
I'm tired of seeing her character once again reduced to a simple love interest. While yes, she is vital to Steve's story, he isn't vital in hers. If we look at Agent Carter, we see her struggling with, and then overcoming his death, by pouring the last remaining sample of his blood into the East River in Brooklyn. Not only was that goodbye, it was symbolic, showing how despite loving him, she was willing to let him go. Not only that, but it was confirmed that Peggy was indeed bisexual. Hayley confirmed it herself, and then it was later teased in What if...? With Milena confidently saying "I don't know whether to kiss you, kill you, or dissect you" , with Peggy suggesting she might want to do all three. It was blatantly obvious that Natasha had some kind of romantic feelings towards Peggy in that series, yet was their undeniable chemistry explored? No, because once again, Peggy is apparently nothing more than a love interest for Steve. Peggy also says to another Steve variant, "we'll never get our happy ending." I think it's clear they're never going to be, and having Steve cause an incursion for one woman isn't the move Marvel thinks it is. It's known that Steve is selfish when it comes to Peggy— appearing beside her when she was on her deathbed and throwing her off completely, kissing her niece at her funeral, abandoning his best friend. Steve isn't good for her, no matter what anyone may say.
❝— The consequences
The decision of Steve Rogers to stay in the past with Peggy Carter is rumoured to have caused disruptions in the multiverse, potentially leading to incursions. This is going to piss off a lot of people. Is it worth putting so many lives at risk simply because you want a woman that inevitably moved on from you? That believed you died? No, not really.
Either way, it sucks seeing her character go back to being Steve's love interest rather than simply, Peggy motherfucking Carter. Maybe one day we'll get the PeggyNat What If...? sequel without the queerbaiting this time, or even a Captain Carter solo movie. Something to show that she is more than someone in Steve's shadow.
