Hello, I’ll be answering your question, today. Sorry it’s taken us this long to get to it, but it’s been fairly busy lately.
Anyway, I’m glad to talk about creating sigils, since it’s some of the easiest magic you can make.
You’ll first want to start with the intent you want the sigil to represent. This can be anything you want influenced to happen in your life. “I get a raise at work” “I pass my test” “I find canonmates.” “I regain my kin memories” are examples of intent a sigil may have.
The intent is a phrase that states what you want the sigil to do. It’s strongly advised to use the present tense and phrase it in a way that avoids negation. “I will not fail my test” for example, is generally not going to work out the way you want it to be. The “will” puts it somewhere in the future and the “not” invites negation of the desired effect. “I will pass my test” is also less likely to give you the desired effect because of the use of “will.” It again puts it sometime in the future. Using “I pass my test” is stronger, more immediate, and more affirming in the desired effect you want the sigil to have.
Now, there are a couple of methods that are common in creating the actual sigil once the intent has been decided. You can use one of these, or you can create your own method based on what you find works with you.
One is simply to take a pen or pencil to paper, meditate or contemplate on the intent of the sigil and draw what comes from that session.
The other common method is to write out the intent of the sigil, cross out any vowels and duplicate letters, break the letters into their most basic lines (an N would become | \ | or | | |, for example). Then you rearrange those lines into a single new shape.
Similarly, some people make alphabets as ciphers of their native alphabet as a way to make their craft more their own and use those as a basis for their sigils using that second method I described.
Others have created sigils using music or online generators. It really comes down to what method you feel most comfortable with and if an existing method doesn’t work, then you can work to create an entirely new style that does. Like Mod Leader, though we’re not open to discussing how he creates his. Some people who design their own unique way prefer to keep it unique for themselves.
