completed masterlist & summary.
After Hours is 10 part series featuring Matthew Sturniolo & Violet Monroe.
content warnings: drug & alcohol use. angst. sexual content.
Matthew Sturniolo: At just 17 years old he moved to California from Boston after being scouted by a high ranking model recruiter. Now at 22 years old he’s one of the highest paid models in the industry. His reputation goes beyond his looks, he’s a well respected man, a hard worker & down to earth.
There’s rumors of him being a “ladies man” despite relationships never being his kind of thing. Casual sex & no strings attached always seemed safer. He even refuses to kiss just any woman because it feels too intimate. But behind closed doors he questioned whether love is just a legend, almost wondering if it was a myth of some sort. Always observing it but never experiencing it.
Violet Monroe: Despite being a nepo baby she wasn’t handed a shortcut to success. Her career has recently skyrocketed after she’d been in 2 movies and a brand new show. But what most people didn’t know is she did more acting off camera than on the screens. On the outside she has a magnetic personality, chaotic party girl energy. She was born and raised in California, known by everyone, but truly seen by nobody.
At 21 years old she hates casual sex & constantly ignores the signs of being touch deprived. Beneath the cameras and flashing lights there’s a lonely girl who craves a love she isn’t sure exist.
In this series: Violet’s party girl, chaotic energy & Matthew’s calm, composed, demeanor balance each-other out. They find one another while navigating their lives of fame, success & unique lifestyles. An unexpected friendship is the outcome, potentially blossoming into something more. But with that being said, with many similarities, come many differences. Different habits, different struggles, and ways of thinking. 2 natural undercover yearners with undeniable gravity and chemistry, put their fear & love into an equation. Their needs & desires equaling a reality that requires faith & trust.

ᢉ𐭩 : starring Matthew Sturniolo & Violet Monroe
previous part. masterlist.
It’d been a week of feeling empty. Of doing any and everything to fill a void within herself. She had blocked Matt’s phone number and blocked him on every social media platform. She didn’t want him to reach out. Because she knew she would answer in a heartbeat.
Violet had spent her days in such a dissociative state. She’d gone to 3 parties within this week, trying to hide behind drugs and the fast life. Eventually it caught up to her. So she forced herself to stay home tonight.
She thought about it all.
All the meaningless conversations. All the pretending. All the shallow connections based on privilege and social status. The hangovers. The constant need to perform. It was all so much. So tiring and draining. She’d never realize just how authentic she truly was around Matt until he was gone. Because now all she does is fake smiles and laughs and put on some type of front.
It was quiet around Violet’s house these days. Even though it was fully furnished, lived in, it felt empty. And she couldn’t help but wish it didn’t have to be this way.
There were reminders of Matt everywhere. Anytime she saw the color blue. Whenever she passed certain restaurants on the way to work. The songs that he added to her playlist that would play late at night. The little fridge magnets that he brought her one day after she mentioned she wanted some.
She’d never known that love could be so brutal. So life changing. The sun kept shining. The world kept spinning. And it drove Violet mad. How could the sun still be shining when her heart felt like it was drowning in grief? She felt alone. Truly alone.
She didn’t have parents to run to. She didn’t want to burden her friends. She wanted to escape. To feel okay again. She didn’t want to rely on drugs to feel something. She didn’t want to spend her time at parties with people who wouldn’t care if she was dead by tomorrow.
She wanted peaceful and quiet mornings. She wanted to build a future that didn’t revolve around flashing lights and fame. She wanted slowness. She wanted safety. She wanted love. She wanted Matt. And no amount of fame or money could fulfill that need.
She sat down in her bed eating a bowl of icecream while watching some overrated reality tv show. It was nearing 10 pm already. She snuggled underneath her blankets. She thought about painting or maybe reading a book. Inevitably she just ended up scrolling through social media.
Violet was tired but practically restless. She hadn’t had good sleep in a week. It was getting to the point where she was debating taking melatonin. She tried all the sleep remedies under the sun. None of them worked. None of them helped.
She tossed and turned for hours. The sound of thunder could be heard as it started to pour rain outside. She checked the time on her phone, 2:37 a.m. She let out a sigh as she thought about all the upcoming events for work she had. In a way Violet was grateful for having so much upcoming work. It gave her less time to think.
Her hands fidgeted with the blanket that was wrapped around her. She could see the lightning from outside through her bedroom curtains. Rain wasn’t a thing she got to see often. Which made her love it even more.
She was focused on the sound of the rain hitting her window when she heard her doorbell ring. Her heart skipped a beat. She wasn’t expecting company or any visitors, especially at 2 am. She didn’t know what to do. Worries that it was some stalker or fan crossed her mind. She shamed herself for not listening to her manager when she told her to invest in some pepper spray.
She got out of bed and walked through the living room towards her front door. When she grabbed onto the doorknob she whispered a prayer for safety, hoping she wasn’t dumb for opening the door.
“Matt?” she said.
He stood on her front porch, his clothes drenched from the rain, a look of desperation on his face. “Can I come in?” he asked. She stared at him, so shocked that he was standing in front of her. She opened the door wider, inviting him into her house.
“What- what are you doing here?” she asked. He looked away from her for a moment, contemplating his choice of words. “You blocked me on everything Vee. I had no choice” he said. “Okay, and you decided that 2 am was the best time to show up?” she said. He shrugged his shoulders, “I couldn’t wait any longer and I knew you would be awake” he said.
She stared at him, his wet messy hair, his soaked clothing, the look in his eyes. All of it was too much. “You can’t just show up to my house” she said before turning on her feet and walking towards her bedroom. He followed behind her, “please Vee, I just need you to listen to me” he said.
When they got into her room Violet searched her dresser for a pair of her dad’s old sweatpants that she stole years ago. “I don’t need to change, it's fine” he said. But she threw the sweatpants at him anyway.
After he got out of the bathroom he stood at the end of Violet’s bed. “I need you to listen to me” he said. She scoffed, “so you can lie some more?” she asked. “I’ve never lied to you Vee, ever, you know me” he said. “I don’t know you, I just know who you pretend to be” she retorted. He pinched the bridge of his nose.
“Take my phone. Go through the messages” he said. She immediately shook her head no. “I’m not asking you, i’m telling you” he said before throwing his phone onto the bed. She stared up at him with suspicion. “Just do it, Vee” he said.
She gave in and grabbed onto his phone. She unlocked it and went to the messages app. She read the messages between him and Ella. And what she read made her heart sink.
She looked up at him in disbelief. “Why didn’t you say anything?” she said. “I tried Vee, you shut me out. You didn’t give me enough time to explain” he said. He sat down on the end of the bed. “I want to be with you, Vee” he said. Her heart beat sped up, unable to think straight.
“Matt” she started, but he interrupted her quickly. “No, listen to me please” he said. He got up to move his position, this time sitting down right in front of her. “I know that you think that I run through girls, that I don’t ever wanna settle down or that relationships aren't my thing. And that was true at one point” he said. “Exactly, I'd be dumb to think you would change for me” she said. “You're not listening to me. I said it used to be true. Not that it still is” he said.
She looked away from him. “I don’t know what’s not clicking for you, Vee” he said, grabbing onto her hand. “I want to be together. I want to be your boyfriend. I want to build a future with you” he said. She scoffed like she didn’t believe any of the words leaving his mouth.
He grabbed onto her jaw, forcing her to look at him. “I want you Vee. Only you” he said. “Jokes over” she said in a dismissive manner. “I’m not joking. I’ve never been more serious in my entire life” he said. She could tell he meant every word.
“You’re being for real?” she said. “Yes, Vee” he said. She looked at him, a mix of emotions crashing within. “What if you find someone better?” she asked hesitantly. His hand that held onto her jaw, caressed her cheek gently. His thumb brushed lightly against her bottom lip. “There is nobody better” he said. She stared at him, feeling all warm inside, feeling everything she tried to shove down rise to the top.
“How do you know that for sure?” she asked. His eyes flickered from her lips to her eyes. “Becuase I do. I’m not sure about a lot of things, but what I know without any doubt, is that I'm in love with you Violet” he said. Her heart skipped a beat. The both of them leaned into one another, their lips hovering over one another. She took a deep breath, processing the words that just came out of his mouth. “Kiss me” he said. Without even thinking about it she leaned in and pressed her lips into his.
When she pulled back he held her hands in his, “can I be your boyfriend Violet?” he asked. The sound of rain tapping on her window could be heard. He stared at her waiting for a response. She blinked. “You really showed up at my house at 2 am during a thunderstorm to ask me if you could be my boyfriend?” she said with a smile on her face. He chuckled, “is that a yes?” he asked. A big grin appeared on her face, “yes” she said. He let out a big exhale.
He cupped Violet’s face with his hands and smothered her face with kisses. She pulled away and giggled but he pulled her back into him. His need to be close with her, to feel her, was overpowering and urgent. “Are you sure you want to be with me? I require a lot of kisses” she said in a playful manner. He grabbed onto her body and placed her on top of himself. She was caught off guard by his actions as she now straddled him.
“I want to give you all the kisses you need and want” he said as he gripped onto her hips to keep her steady. “Really?” she asked with a smile. He nodded his head, “where do you want me to kiss you?” he asked. She pointed at her mouth and he leaned in to press a soft kiss on her lips.
“Where else?” he asked. She smiled and tapped her cheek. He leaned in and pressed a kiss to her cheek. “Anywhere else?” he asked. She nodded her head and pointed at her neck. His smile deepened as he leaned into her. He was soft and intentional as he placed open mouth kisses onto her neck. And of course Violet reacted in just the way he knew she would. He remembered just how eager she got when he sucked on her sweet spot the night of Katie Reed’s party.
“Matt” she whispered as she started to run her fingers through his hair. He didn’t respond, instead he kept sucking lightly onto her neck. Her body started to heat up as she was suddenly immersed in the way his lips felt on her. Her hips started to move, not on purpose, it was just a natural reaction to the way she was feeling.
But he loved it. The way her body reacted. The way her hips rolled on top of him. The way she was silently begging for more. All the times he had wanted to touch her, kiss her, please her, but had to remain restrained, had gone out the window. He was hungry, starving, salivating at the idea of finally getting to give her what she needed. It wasn’t about his needs, it was never about his needs, it was about hers. And he was determined to make her feel everything that had been pent up in his system.
When he finished leaving love marks on her neck he pulled back to lock eyes with her. Her pupils were dilated, full of desperation, a look of intense craving crossing over her face. Seconds later her lips were back on his. Their tongues swirled around one another, saliva and desire mixing. His hands gripped onto her hips a little tighter as she rocked back and forth against him.
“Was there anywhere else you wanted me to kiss you?” he said against her lips. She shrugged her shoulders, their foreheads resting against one another. They stared into each other’s eyes. His eyebrows furrowed slightly, “why are you lying to me baby?” he asked. She looked at him with hesitation. “Tell me Vee, where do you want me to kiss you next?” he whispered. A few seconds passed before she grabbed onto his hand gently, softly, almost as if she was anxious, and then she placed it between her legs. He smiled.
He picked her up and moved their positions, he laid her body against the bed. She stared at him, nervous and excited at the same time. He parted her legs slowly, “gonna take these off you, is that okay?” he asked, pulling on the fabric of her sweatpants. She nodded her head, her stomach flipping all type of ways.
Once her sweatpants were off and tossed onto the ground somewhere he laid on his stomach between her legs. His hands wrapped underneath her thighs. Violet tried to keep her breath steady as he placed open mouth kisses all around her inner thighs but failed when the kisses got higher and closer to her entrance.
The simple kisses and touches had such a big impact on her. Her body was so reactive due to not being touched in this way for so long. She tried to stay still when his finger started to rub over the fabric of her panties but she squirmed so much.
He rubbed over the fabric of her panties until he could see the wet spot soaking through. “Matt” she let out, eager, hungry, desperate. He chuckled, hearing the need in her voice made him unbelievably hard.
Matt started to place soft kisses on her pussy through the thin fabric. “Please” she whined, her back arching against the bed. He gently and carefully slid her panties down and off of her. She laid there bare, naked, exposed. He let his fingers spread through her folds, “oh baby, so wet already” he said. He rubbed her clit with the smallest amount of pressure causing her hips to buck forward. “You’re so sensitive Vee, just tell me if you want me to stop at any point” he said. She nodded her head.
He leaned into her more, his face directly in front of her entrance. His tongue moved, not once but twice. He licked a stripe up her pussy, soft moans escaped her mouth. The feeling Violet felt was like no other.
Violet was already struggling to keep her composure. His tongue flattened and lapped against her clit, deliberately slow at first, intentional and calculated. Her hands found his hair, pulling onto strands in hopes to keep herself in tact.
But she failed the moment he shoved a finger inside of her. And then another. She couldn’t hold in her whimpers or cries. She lost control as his tongue circled her clit over and over while his fingers penetrated her dripping cunt.
He didn’t stop. Not until her body was giving out, not until she came undone and fell apart, essentially a whining mess. “Yeah baby, tell me how you’re feeling” he said as he continued to devour her. She didn’t respond, she couldn’t. Loud moans of ecstasy fell from her mouth.
She tried to shut her legs around his head, the overstimulation becoming too much. But he forced her legs open, “not done” he murmured, pussy drunk, so focused on the way she tasted. He looked up at her, their eyes locking as he plunged his tongue into her hole.
He was so lost in the way her pussy felt and tasted, he could truly eat her out for hours. It wasn’t until she grabbed onto his head and pulled him away from her sensitive bud that eventually caused him to stop.
He stared up at her, her juices dripping off his chin. “Need you” she said. And he didn’t need an explanation. It was a mutual understanding. A mutual need.
He moved. One moment he was between her legs. The next he was towering over her in nothing but his boxers. “Are you sure?” he asked. “Yes” she responded. The moment his boxers hit the floor Violet became a lot more intimidated than she already was before.
“Matt, you’re so big. It’s gonna hurt” she said nervously. “Maybe for the first couple seconds but it’s okay, I’ll be gentle” he reassured. She stared up at him. She knew in that moment that he was the only man that had made her feel truly safe and comfortable. “You ready baby?” he asked. “Yes” she said.
He slid inside her easily, both their jaws dropping as he pushed further in. Violet’s face twisted as she felt the pressure and slight pain. “You okay?” he asked attentively before moving, wanting to make sure she still felt safe and secure. She nodded her head “just kinda hurts” she said. “It’ll feel good in a minute” he said. She nodded her head and braced herself.
He started to move, his hips slowly thrusting up into hers. She grabbed onto his biceps, the sensations switching from pain to pleasure within seconds. His long girthy cock rocked in and out of her, cautiously at first.
“Feel good baby?” he asked. Violet was already in a state of euphoria. She wasn’t able to respond once again. The pleasure was overwhelming and taking complete control of her body. Not having sex for over a year impacted her more than she realized. She was never a big fan of sex, not until now.
Now she was letting out uncontrollable moans as Matt let his cock thrust into her. She was digging his nails into his skin as his pace became faster. Her body had never felt this amount of pleasure before.
He grabbed onto her legs and threw them over his shoulders, the new angle allowing better access to her spot. She gripped onto the sheets like her life depended on it, truly wrapped in the immense power of his touch.
It wasn’t long before he let her legs down and leaned into her more, wanting to be close to her as he started to thrust more passionately. Her pussy hugged onto his cock just right, so perfectly.
Everything around her became fuzzy. He leaned into her, their mouths attacking one another. Their kisses turned sloppy as his strokes got deeper and slower. “I fucking love you Violet ” he said as his cock kissed her cervix. Her jaw dropped at the feeling of dick plunging in and out of her. “I love you- fuckkk- I love you too” she managed to let out, the ending of her words turning into a moan.
She could feel her orgasm approaching. “Matt im gonna come” she cried out. He picked his pace up, this time fucking up into her a little harder. “No, no baby” he said, his dick starting to repeatedly hit her spot over and over.
“Mattt” she whined, barely holding on, so close to losing control. “Come on Vee, you can keep going, 5 more minutes” he coaxed. He penetrated her pussy harder, her head started spinning, her mind going numb.
And then she lost control of it all. The band in her belly snapped, a wave of deep euphoria crashed upon her, a sense of peace hit directly into her soul and she honestly couldn’t tell if she had stopped breathing for a moment or not.
Matt pushed in for the last time before pulling out and letting the hot spurts of come land on her stomach as her legs trembled. He collapsed next to her and they laid there breathing hard, trying to return to their bodies.
It was only a few minutes before he got up and cleaned up the mess, taking care of Violet with caution and gentleness. Once he was done cleaning her he laid back down and spooned her.
Their naked bodies pressed together as a peaceful silence took over the room. The both of them feeling content, feeling whole, like the missing pieces were finally found. He stroked her hair and pressed kisses into her back and shoulders.
“Are we telling people?” Violet asked, breaking the silence. “Telling people what?” he asked. “About us. There’s paparazzi and cameras and fans and people always talking” she said. He thought for a moment before responding.
She waited anxiously for his response. She didn’t want to be a secret. Or deal with the hassle of hiding. Maybe he’d be embarrassed of being with me, she thought to herself. Oh god, how could I be so stupid, she internally shamed herself. “I want to love you out loud. I’d never wanna hide something so beautiful” he said.
She let out a deep exhale, a deep relief washed over her. He let his fingers trace lazy patterns across her skin. She turned around to face him. He could tell something was brewing in her head.
“What’s wrong?” he asked. “Nothing” she lied quickly. “Hey, you don’t have to perform for me baby. Tell me what you’re thinking about, please” he said as he cupped her cheek like it was the most fragile part of her body.
“I wanna be with you forever” she said quietly. He pulled her into his chest and held onto her tightly. “The feeling is mutual, Vee” he said. “We’re gonna build a future together. Everything you want. Peaceful mornings. Slowness. Safety. One day it’ll be just us. No cameras. No audience. Until then we’ll love and grow with eachother” he said in a reassuring tone.
She snuggled further into his chest. She felt so safe. So happy and whole. She tried to fight her sleep to the best of her ability. But when she was next to Matt it was hard. He always felt cozy to her. Bringing her a sense of comfort and warmth she hadn’t ever experienced before. “I love you” she whispered, closing her eyes. “I love you too Violet” he said, letting out a breath he didn’t know he was holding in.
Matt was finally the one to experience love instead of being the observer. He understood that love was real, more than real, beyond real as he held onto Violet.
And Violet.
Her craving for something real, something with depth, something organic that wasn't based off social status and flashing lights, it manifested itself into her reality. Love had completely taken over as she laid in Matt's arms.
To her, Matt was the physical embodiment of everything she prayed for. He was what she once begged God to show her existed. And to Matt, she was proof that love was powerful, it had the power to change someone's entire existence and the path that they traveled on.
They were two love struck humans experiencing each other's souls. They still had so much to come. Different work environments, hard choices to make, lots of compromising and even struggles to face. But it didn't matter. Because they would go through this life together and even find each other in the next.

previous part. masterlist.
She woke up to an empty bed. Matt was nowhere to be seen or heard. She felt dehydrated and weak from last night. A pit in her stomach formed as all the memories started to flood in.
She knew she needed to apologize to Matt for the way she acted. She knew they needed to have a serious conversation. Violet got out of bed and walked to her bathroom. She looked at herself in the mirror for a moment and sighed.
She couldn’t help but get stuck in her head when she brushed her teeth. She reminisced on Matt’s touch, the way his lips felt against hers. She gargled some mouth wash, flashbacks of his hands on her body made her knees weak.
It was too early in the morning to be thinking of such things like that. Like the way he had kissed her neck in just the right spot. The way his tongue had swirled around hers and the words he said against her lips.
She dissociated while she ate some cereal, unable to get out of her head. She tried to wrap her head around the fact that he had kissed her. It was a known fact that he didn’t kiss because of how intimate it felt. So what made her any different? What made him act in such a way? She wondered if it was just some tactic to keep her wrapped around his finger.
She was curious if it would change their dynamic. She hoped he didn’t get the wrong idea. Violet was not about to become some girl he could call late at night and hook up with. Even though she was sure he knew better than to assume that she still worried.
She wanted more with Matt. Violet didn’t know how to navigate all these emotions and thoughts. She was being consumed from the inside out. It made it hard to think straight or focus on anything else.
She set the bowl of cereal down in the sink and headed back to her bedroom. She figured she’d respond to a few work emails before doing anything else. Violet yawned, opening her laptop and clicking on the mail icon.
Of course she couldn’t focus. Not one bit. There were too many thoughts swarming her head. Her mind was all over the place. She couldn’t stop thinking. Reminiscing. She let out a deep breath and rolled her eyes. She was annoyed with herself.
2 hours later she closed her laptop and decided to focus on something else. She FaceTimed her friends for awhile, not mentioning what happened with Matt to any of them. She figured they wouldn’t care too much anyways. They all had their own stuff to deal with.
Later on she scrolled through social media for awhile. She ended up on Matt’s Instagram, scrolling through each picture over and over. His online presence was professional and curated to his audience. She looked through all of his comment sections out of curiosity.
There were thousands and thousands of comments thirsting over him. She laughed at how out of pocket some of the things she read were. She set her phone down. She wondered if he’d ever stalk her social media accounts. Matter of fact she wondered about a lot of things.
She wondered if he was still at work right now, and if he wasn’t working then she wondered what he was up to. She wondered if she should text him. And if he was upset with the way she acted last night.
She wondered how he was such a good kisser despite never kissing the girls he would get with. She wondered what it would be like underneath him, if it would feel as good as it sounded. She was in some type of daze at this point, day dreaming about him.
She eventually made herself some dinner. She ate with no distractions, very mindfully, very present. She knew she needed to stop trying to out run her feelings. But it was easier said than done. She thought about Matt some more, deciding to ask him to come over.
from Matt: I’ll be on my way soon
She stared at the message. She sat on her living room couch and waited for his arrival. She picked at her nails nervously. Violet watched some t.v. while she waited in hopes to get her out of her head for a while.
She was close to falling asleep before she heard a knock on her door. She got up from the couch and walked towards the door.
“Hey” she said as she opened the door. “Hey” he said as he followed her to the living room. She sat down on the couch, patting the space next to her with her hand, signaling for him to sit next to her.
He sat down on the couch, not too close, in fact a little further away than she liked. She tried to ignore it and not let it bother her too much. But he noticed the subtle difference in her behavior. The two of them were tense as unspoken tension surrounded the two of them.
“How was work?” she asked. “It was good. I got off early today. I was wondering when you were gonna text me” he said. Violet smiled, “would have texted sooner if I knew you got off early” she said.
They continued the small talk for a while. The conversation flowed easily despite it feeling rehearsed. And then came a point where the both of them stopped talking and settled into an uneasy silence. Violet couldn’t take it for very long before she decided to address the elephant in the room.
“Matt” she said, turning to face him. “Hmm” he hummed. “I wanted to apologize for last night” she said. He shook his head, “don’t, it’s okay” he said, trying to stop the conversation from happening. “No Matt, listen to me” she said. He let out an exhale before nodding his head.
“I’m sorry for the way I acted last night. I don’t really know why I kissed Oliver, he’s nothing but a distraction to me. I’m sorry that you had to put up with my shitty attitude. And I wanted to thank you for- everything. You're the closest person to me nowadays and I wouldn’t change it for the world” she said. He nodded his head, listening closely as she spoke.
“You really are such an overthinker” he said with a smile on his face when she was done. “Does that mean we’re good?” she asked. He nodded his head, “come here” he said.
Violet and him laid snuggled up on the couch together. He held onto her like she was the most precious thing he’d ever come across. He traced lazy patterns into her skin as they talked and got lost in conversation. They both felt less tense now. Less in their heads.
Violet had wondered if he was going to bring up the kisses they shared from last night. She tried not to think about it too much. But it was still in the forefront of her mind. She wasn’t going to bring it up if he wasn’t going to.
The two of them laid there with their bodies practically pressed against one another, so calm and so content. Violet traced the outline of his arm tattoo’s while they talked about some gossip they heard about other big known stars.
He watched her eyes as she continued to focus on his tattoos. He couldn’t concentrate on her words anymore. Not when her eyes looked so bright and her lips looked so soft. She looked up at him, noticing that he was already staring at her. “What?” she said. “Nothing” he smiled.
2 hours of laying down and holding eachother passed before Matt got up and went to the bathroom. Violet sat there thinking about if she should bring up the kiss. She couldn’t stand not knowing if it would happen again or if it was a one time thing. She wanted him to kiss her. She wanted the touch. The intimacy. The affection. The love. And she wanted it bad.
She thought about all the memories they’ve already created. There was something so special about their connection. He could see her. And she could see him. She didn’t need to perform for him. Violet felt a pit in her stomach form.
She thought about how to word what she was going to say when he came back from the bathroom. But nothing seemed to sound right. So maybe, just maybe, she’d plan to try and kiss him. His reaction would be the answer she needed.
His phone that sat on the coffee table in front of her dinged with a text notification. She didn’t mean to be nosy. Looking at the notification on his phone wasn’t intentional. It just kind of happened.
from Ella: it was so nice to see you tonight, come back over soon. & your secret is safe with me 😛.
Violet’s heart dropped so fast and so quick. Matt came walking into the living room like everything was okay. Violet’s heart beat was pounding, she was sure he could hear it from across the room.
“What’s wrong? Are you okay?” he asked. “You’re a liar Matt” she said trying to hold back the tears forming in her eyes. “What? What are you talking about?” he asked. She shook her head, “I knew not to fall for your bullshit” she said feeling deceived.
He walked closer to the couch, “please tell me what’s going on” he said. She stood up from the couch and grabbed his phone. She clicked the power button and threw it at him.
He looked down at the notification, his face dropping. “That’s my cousin” he said quickly. But Violet didn’t believe him. Not even a little bit. “Vee I promise I’m telling you the truth” he said, panic in his tone.
She looked at him, suspicion written all over his face. “Show me the rest of your guys' messages” she said. His eyes widened a little, his hand moving to scratch the back of his head. “I’m sorry. I can’t do that” he said. She scoffed. Unbelievable.
“Get out” she said in a monotone voice. “What?” he said. “Get out of my house Matt” she said. “I promise it’s not what you think Vee. I swear, I just need you to trust me on this” he said. She scoffed in disbelief.
She decided to walk in the opposite direction as him, heading towards her bedroom. She ignored his attempts at talking. She didn’t care for whatever lies he had to offer. She slammed her bedroom door shut and got underneath her blankets.
“Vee. I promise. Please just talk to me” he said from the other side of the door. She watched the doorknob turn and turn. “Let me in, Vee” he said. But she ignored him. Tears wouldn’t stop falling, her body felt weak from the deep emotions she felt taking over.
He tried the doorknob for a few more minutes before eventually giving up. “Please text me when you’re ready to talk” he said. She could hear his footsteps walking away. And when she heard her front door close she broke down into a sob.
The one man who she finally felt like she loved, just showed her that even the most convincing people are still pretending. She hated herself for ever believing that they could work out. She hated the time and energy she spent on the man who was just playing the long game.
All of the moments they shared. All of the memories they created. All of it was calculated by him. She felt disgusted with herself. Truly disgusted. It baffled her how not even 10 minutes ago they were holding onto each other as if everything was okay. As if this wasn’t his plan all along.
She would never open her heart up to another man again. She would sit in this bed and cry until no more tears came. And then she would continue on with the life she lived.
There was no time for breaks. No time to sit and dwell. She would get better distractions. Or hobbies. Take cooking classes. Do yoga. Fuck she would even try pilates if it meant that she would be distracted from the way her heart ached.
And Matt.
Matt would let her be. For now. For as long as he could. Until he would eventually spiral. He was stubborn and hard headed. And after a week without Violet he would start to lose his mind.
They would try to outrun their feelings. Try to ignore it and shove it down. But there was only a matter of time before it would catch up to the both of them on a bright sunny day.

Tonight’s party would be a night to remember. Katie Reed’s parties were known for being the most chaotic and eventful. Katie made people sign NDA’s before entering, no filming and high security was present.
Violet wasn’t going to decline the invitation. She was going to go and enjoy herself. Plus she desperately needed a distraction tonight. Especially after her and Matt’s last interaction.
A couple hours before the party Matt and Violet had been hanging out. Nothing out of the ordinary was occurring, good vibes, good energy. That was until Violet had mentioned that she felt stressed.
“What’s stressing you out?” Matt asked. Violet shrugged her shoulders even though she knew exactly what had her in her head. The reason for being stressed was right in front of her. The reason being Matt.
And he could tell she was starting to censor herself more and more these days. To which bugged the shit out of him. He was constantly telling Violet to stop trying to mask herself. To just let him be there for her. But Violet pushed him away everytime he thought they were getting somewhere.
“I don’t understand why you shut me out, Vee. I just wanna help” he said. Violet shook her head, “I’m fine” she lied. “What did I tell you about lying to me?” he asked. Violet scoffed and shrugged her shoulders.
He stepped closer to her as they stood in Violet’s kitchen. “Why are you doing this?” he asked. She avoided eye contact as she continued to wash their dishes from their lunch. “I don’t know what you're talking about” she said. He took another step closer to her.
“Don’t play dumb with me. You know exactly what you’re doing” he said, his voice steady but not harsh. She exhaled and chose to ignore him. She didn’t have the words or energy to go back and forth.
He took one more step closer, finally standing directly next to her. She could feel the warmth of his body, so close that she could easily bump into him if she moved even an inch. “You’re in my way Matt” she said, holding a plate, waiting for him to move so she could place the plate in the dish rack. He didn’t move, not even a little.
Instead he grabbed the plate from her hand and placed it into the dish rack himself. After that he faced her again, their eyes locked, something indecipherable in Violet’s eyes made Matt grab onto her.
He placed each of his hands on her shoulders, “talk to me please” he said. “I am” she responded. He pinched the bridge of his nose and let out a sigh, clearly starting to get frustrated with Violet. She stood there unsure of what to do. “I can’t do this with you, Vee” he said. She stared at him, so much uncertainty and anxiety.
“Do what?” she asked. “You’re acting different. You’re being so distant. I don’t understand” he said. She felt bad. She really did. A plethora of emotions crossed over her. “Just help me understand, if I did something just tell me. Please” he practically begged. She looked at him, her heart & mind actively tearing each other apart.
He looked at her, hoping for communication, clarity, and understanding. She almost poured her heart out right then and there.
She almost told him about how she never got good sleep if he wasn’t in the same bed as her. She almost told him about the times she would day dream about a future with him. She almost told him how he’s the first person to make her feel seen and valued.
She almost told him how she counted how many freckles were on his back when he was asleep. Or that she’d never been able to grasp what love actually looks and feels like until she met him.
That love is a four letter word. And it starts with M and ends with T.
She almost told him. Almost…
“I’m sorry, I don’t know what to tell you. You should probably leave” she said. She watched his eyes dim, something heavy taking over his pupils. He opened his mouth like he wanted to say something but nothing came out.
He gave her one last look before grabbing his phone off the kitchen counter and headed out her front door. Her heart ached. And so did his. Fear was detrimental. And love was a sick tragedy. Tears formed in her eyes as she finished washing the dishes. Hearing her front door close felt like a stab to the chest.
6 hours later she was standing at the front doors of Katie Reed’s mansion. She wore a black mini dress that hugged her body perfectly, kitten heels and expensive jewelry that shined perfectly under every type of lighting. Her hair was curled, her makeup came out just the way she wanted and her vanilla and coconut lotion made her skin feel silky and soft.
She looked perfect on the outside. She fit into these types of crowds. The famous life. The life that was full of flashing cameras, big screens and expensive taste. The ecstatic parties, the drugs, the fast pace of the world she lived in. And she knew it. That even as she stood in front of this famous person’s mansion doors, craving a different path of life, that this was her thing. Acting. Partying. Not meant for love. Not meant for anything soft. Not meant for slowness and safety. Maybe not not meant for it, just not worthy of it. Not deserving of it.
“Name” the security guard said. “Violet Monroe” she said with a polite smile. He checked the list of names on his clipboard, “have fun” he said before opening the doors for her.
She walked into the mansion, loud music played, the smell of weed and smoke clouding every corner, alcohol on every countertop, people dancing and shouting the lyrics to some overplayed song.
People were laughing too loudly as the drugs they took traveled through their blood stream. Others stumbling around, already beyond fucked up. The energy was extremely high. She observed big known stars spiral out of control and drown themselves in drugs just for the fun of it.
She found the main ballroom, restless bodies crowded in the center. Dancing. Yelling. Laughing. Adrenaline ran through her body, the sight of everybody exciting her. She couldn’t wait to get her hands on some of the expensive alcohol. Solely based on the fact that she needed the ache in her chest to disappear.
Maybe she needed better coping skills. Or maybe she just needed a shot.
She took it slow at first, starting off with a mixed drink. She socialized with all types of people. A list celebrities, professional athletes, and friends of friends.
“Oh my god! I’m so glad you showed up” Katie said, handing Violet a shot. They clinked their shot glasses together before swallowing the expensive liquor. “You look so unbelievably hot” Katie said. Violet smiled big, “says you” she said.
An hour passed and Violet was now in a different room with people she’d recognize from show’s, movies and red carpets. “So you're telling me you’ve been single this whole time?” Hannah Said. Violet nodded her head, letting out a light chuckle. Hannah’s jaw dropped as if she just discovered something huge.
“Let me set you up with someone. I know the perfect guy!” Hannah said. “Oh- no, no, it’s okay. Really” Violet said. Hannah gave her a look of disapproval. Violet was handed a red solo cup by another girl, “you’re literally one of the hottest people here. And there’s so many single rich men here. It’d be a shame if you didn’t take advantage of that” Hannah said. Violet laughed and shrugged her shoulders.
The night continued and spiraled into a wave of reckless strangers, laughter exploding, glasses clinking together, the flashing lights shined down on all of the inebriated people. Violet moved through the crowd with ease, on her way to get another shot.
She glanced into all the rooms she passed while on the way to the main bar. She witnessed people making out, a few couples arguing, some people sitting on a couch and others circling around a table with lines of a white substance on it.
When she finally reached the main bar all she could do was smile. A shot of tequilla was calling her name. She sat down on a bar stool for a minute, taking in the moment. She stared at the shot of tequilla in her hand. “What are you doing over here? All by yourself” she heard from behind her.
She turned around and smiled big. “Oliver” she said. He took a step closer, “cheers” he said holding his shot glass up to hers. They slammed the shots down, laughing together at the faces they made from the bitter tasting liquor.
“You know hovering over the bar all night isn’t your typical behavior” Oliver said. Violet shrugged her shoulders and smiled, “true” was all she managed to say. “Where’s your usual party animal energy?” he asked. She laughed but deep down she knew what the issue was. “Come dance with me” he said, grabbing onto her hands and pulling her into the crowd.
The music rattled their rib cages and guided them into a flow of energy that seemed smooth and easy. Violet and Oliver danced around each other, the alcohol starting to hit all at once. They danced so carelessly, the energy elated with each second passing.
“You look so good tonight” Oliver yelled over the music. “You do too” she responded. He smiled before grabbing onto her hips. She wrapped her hands around his neck and they swayed back and forth together, “you know i’ve been really bummed ever since you rejected me” he said. “I didn’t reject you” Violet laughed. His eyebrows raised, “what do you call it then?” he asked. All she could do was smile.
“I’ve wanted you for along time” he said. “Is that so?” she asked in a playful tone. He nodded his head, “I’ve always felt strangely pulled towards you” he said. “Really?” she said. “Yeah” he smiled.
His grip on her hips tightened just a little, he leaned down so that way his mouth hovered over her ear, "I've always wondered what your lips would feel like on mine” he said. “We should try it out, see if it lives up to your expectations” she said. His eyes widened like he was surprised by the level of boldness Violet carried.
He leaned in towards her, his hands guiding her hips closer to him. She smiled before leaning into him, pressing her lips onto his. Their mouths moved in unison, the taste of alcohol in their shared saliva. It became sloppy fast, her fingers starting to run through his hair. She was fully immersed in the moment, feeling reckless as the alcohol and adrenaline rushed through her veins.
He let his hands slide down to her ass as her mouth moved against his. Just as she was about to slide her tongue into his mouth she felt a hand grip onto her arm and pull her away from Oliver before she could even process what was happening. “Hey! What the fuck!” she yelled, her body stumbling as she was being pulled into the opposite direction of the man she was just making out with.
The hair, the hands, his shoulders. She recognized it immediately. Matt let go of her arm and turned to face her, his face filled with something so cold, so distant. Unlike anything she’d ever seen before. “What the fuck!” he yelled over the music. Violet didn’t even know what to say. She looked at the red solo cup in his hand.
He stared at her waiting for a response. “What’s your problem?” she asked. “Are you being serious right now?” he yelled. She stood there frozen, her body feeling as light as a feather while the alcohol coursed through her bloodstream.
He grabbed onto her arm again and led her into a different room, away from a crowd, away from the loud music. Once they were in a room with less people and less chaos he stood there in front of her as if he was waiting for some type of explanation. He set his cup down on a counter top.
“So you have nothing to say? Nothing at all?” he said. She shrugged her shoulders, trying not to let tears form in her eyes. “What do you want me to say Matt?” she said. “What the fuck do you mean?” he said, frustration lacing his tone.
“I don’t understand why you're mad right now” she said. “Because I just witnessed you kissing Oliver like your life depended on it” he said, as if it was the most obvious answer ever. “And what’s wrong with that?” she asked. His eyebrows furrowed, a look of disbelief appearing on his face.
“You're acting like I committed a crime” she said. He scoffed, “Vee, you can’t just be out here kissing people” he said. “Why not?” she asked. And when he didn’t respond she started again, “it’s not like you and I are together” she said. He ran a hand over his face, his jaw clenching, clearly frustrated and stressing.
“Right? It’s not like me and you are anything” she said. He took a big step towards her, their bodies inches apart. “You're just mad that I'm not another girl you can use and play with” she said. He stared down into her eyes, “I have never and will never use you” he said. “Yeah, right. I’m not gonna be some girl you can call late for a quick fuck. I’m not the girl you want me to be Matt” she said. His jaw clenched again, “Vee, I need you to stop saying shit like that” he said.
“No! Because it’s the truth! I know that you get bored, you like no strings attached, you like to-” she paused when he suddenly grabbed onto her arm. “Don’t kiss anyone else” he said, moving pieces of her hair behind her ear. “I’ll do whatever I want” she retorted.
He stared down at her, “you’ll listen to me” he stated, like it wasn’t up for debate. She felt the energy switch, his words igniting something inside her. “I can kiss whoever I want! I could go sleep with Oliver right now if I wanted to” she said, even though she had absolutely no desire to do so.
He grabbed onto her body and pulled her against him. “I don’t know how much more clear I could be” he said. He couldn’t focus on her eyes when her lips looked so good. She stared up at him through her lashes, frustration and something else took over her. Something she couldn’t quite name. It felt oddly close to desire, to need.
She looked away from him, suddenly embarrassed from the way her body was heating up. And not just from the alcohol. He lifted her chin with his fingers, forcing her to lock eyes with him. “You hear me Vee?” he said. She nodded nodded slowly, her breath becoming unsteady. His eyes flickered from her eyes to her lips once again.
“Why are you so quiet all the sudden? Huh?” he chuckled, practically teasing her, noticing the blush on her cheeks. She rolled her eyes and swatted his hand away from her face. “Fuck you” she spit out. “Don’t be like that, Vee” he said. She looked away from him again, unable to think straight.
“I’m going back out there with Oliver” she said in an annoyed tone. But before she could even move he grabbed onto her jaw, “don’t” he said. She looked up at him again, his gaze making her feel too many things at once.
“Why?” she asked. He hesitated for a moment, “because” he said. She scoffed, “not a good enough reason” she said. His grip on her jaw tightened just a tiny bit, not harsh, just firm. And then he leaned in, not a lot, but just enough.
Their faces were so close she could feel the fan of his breath. He grabbed onto her waist, the touch making her dizzy. And he could tell that she needed the touch as she practically melted into him. She wrapped her hands around his neck as he pressed her body against his.
Their lips hovered over one another, her breath hitched. Violet’s heart beat quickened, “Matt” she whispered. “Pull away if you want” he whispered back. She slowly shook her head no. And that was the green light he needed to act on his decision.
They both leaned in, their lips pressing together. The kisses started off delicate and soft but slowly turned into a sloppy, desperate, mess. Her fingers ran through his hair, everything dissolving around them, both of them drowning in the touch of one another. “I would never use you, you mean so much to me” he said against her lips.
Their tongues started to fight for dominance while Matt started to carefully guide her towards the wall behind her. “You’re so beautiful Vee, I need you to understand how deeply I feel for you” he said. The words made her wetter than she’d ever been. When her back pressed against the wall she turned even more needy. He bit softly on her bottom lip and sucked lightly, causing her to let out a quiet moan.
He smiled against her lips before his tongue returned to the inside of her mouth. He moved his kisses from her mouth to her jaw, all the way down to her neck. “I want you all the time, every day, every hour. I wanna give you everything you need” he said. Her body felt like it was floating from the amount of pleasure she was already feeling. He sucked lightly on her neck and it made Violet overly eager. He smiled, loving how worked up she was getting.
The sound of muffled laughter getting closer and closer could be heard from down the hall. Matt pulled back, “there’s people coming” he said in between kisses. “I don’t care, let’s make them watch” she said before grabbing onto his hand and shoving it underneath her dress. His pupils dilated immediately as he felt the soaked fabric of her panties.
He rubbed her pussy through the wet fabric softly as the sounds of laughter got closer. His tongue glided against hers, their saliva mixing, their bodies pressed together. He pulled back, retrieving his hand and taking a step back, his last attempt to get control of himself. “Nooo, pleaseee” she dragged out. He smiled, breathing heavy. The desperation in her eyes turned him on even more but he contained himself to the best of his ability.
She clung onto him, “Matttt” she whined a pout forming on her face. He wrapped his arms around her “I know baby, I know” he said, stroking her hair. He leaned back just a little so he could see her flushed cheeks, her glossed over eyes, “need you” she whispered. His jaw clenched as he heard footsteps enter the room.
She didn’t pay attention to the guys that walked in, too focused on Matt. That was until she heard her name being called across the room. “Violet”. She turned to look towards the sound of her name.
Oliver stared back at her and Matt. She immediately pulled away from Matt’s hold, “Oliver” she said. Matt shot daggers at him with his eyes. She watched as Oliver walked towards them.
“I thought you weren’t entertaining him anymore” Oliver said. She looked over at Matt who hadn’t taken his eyes off him yet. She didn’t know how to respond so she just stood there, hesitation written all over her.
“No seriously, what are you doing? He’s not even your type, he’s specifically known for using girls. I thought me and you had something special going on” Oliver said. A pit formed in Violet’s stomach, “I’m not with him” she said. Matt looked over at Violet, “yes she is” he said to Oliver.
“No I’m not. I mean I’m with him right now but we’re not together” she said. Oliver looked between the two of them, watching a scene unfold. Matt grabbed onto Violet’s arm. “I don’t understand” Oliver said, defeat in his tone. Violet yanked her arm out of Matt’s grip, “Matt and I aren’t together. He’s just a friend” she said. Matt scoffed, “really?” he said.
Violet avoided eye contact with the both of them. She couldn’t take this, she couldn’t deal with this right now. “Neither of you are worth this amount of stress” she said before walking out of the room. “Violet!” “Vee!” she heard behind her, but she ignored it and headed in the opposite direction.
She waited outside the mansion for an uber. Tears forming in her eyes as she scrolled through her phone messages. She didn’t know what she was doing. She couldn’t comprehend her own emotions as they flooded beneath her skin.
By the time the uber arrived her mascara was running and the heels that she was wearing were taken off and in her hands. She sobbed the entire way home, tipping the uber driver extra for having to listen to her cry the entire drive.
Once she was finally in bed her head was spinning. The events of tonight replayed for what seemed like hours. She couldn’t sleep. Not without Matt next to her.
Her phone dinged, a text notification appearing.
from Matt: open your door for me vee
Her heart stammered for a moment as she stared at the text. She debated on ignoring it, pretending to sleep. Until she received another text.
from Matt: I know your up vee, just come open the door.
She wiped the leftover tears from her eyes and got up from her bed. She walked through her house until she reached the front door.
She opened the door and there stood Matt, looking the most worried she’d ever seen. “I’ll leave if you want me to. I just needed to see that you got home safe” he said. She frowned, unable to mask her true emotions. He pulled her into a tight hug as she started to cry. “Hey, hey. You’re okay” he said, stroking her hair softly.
“I’m sorry” she said into his chest. “You need sleep baby” he said. She felt like her chest was about to cave in. The way he was so reassuring, attentive and gentle even with the way she treated him tonight meant so much to her.
He guided her to her bedroom and onto her bed where he tucked her into the blankets. “I don’t know anymore Matt. I just-” she started, tears running down her face, but he hushed her real quick. “Shhh, we’ll talk tomorrow. You need to sleep” he said as he sat on the bed next to her.
She noticed he hadn’t taken his shoes off or set his phone down yet. “Are you staying the night?” she asked. He shook his head no, “I have to be up early for a work thing tomorrow” he said. That only made her more upset, “please stay” she said. He looked at her, the vulnerable state she was in made his heart ache. He could say no to alot of people but she wasn’t one of them.“Okay” he said softly.
He took his shoes off and set his phone on the nightstand. She watched as he got under the covers, immediately feeling a sense of safety when he laid next to her.
He pulled her into his chest, holding her as close as he could. She sniffled, trying to gather herself, trying to compose herself. “Don’t cry my pretty baby, your okay, everything’s okay” he said.
And although she couldn’t sleep the entire 2 hours of trying prior before he got here, she fell asleep soundly within just a few minutes of Matt holding her.

And although she couldn’t sleep the entire 2 hours of trying prior before he got here, she fell asleep soundly within just a few minutes of Matt holding her.

previous part. masterlist.
“I invited Matt too, I hope that’s okay” Sienna said. Violet smiled “that’s okay” she said. Violet and Sienna had been shopping all day for Sienna’s birthday trip.
Malibu California had one of the most beautiful beaches on this earth. Violet had only been a couple times but was excited to see the earths beauty again tomorrow. Sienna hugged onto Violet, “I’ll see you tomorrow” Sienna said. Violet smiled “I’ll text you” she said.
Once Sienna left Violet’s house she focused on packing her bag for the trip. She was trying to decide what bikini to bring when her phone started ringing.
“Hey” she said into the phone. “I miss you” he said. “It’s past your bedtime Matt” Violet joked. “I wanna see you” he said. Violet chuckled, unable to stop a smile from forming on her face. “We’ll see eachother tomorrow” she said. “That’s not soon enough Vee” he said. Violet playfully rolled her eyes.
“I have to finish packing my suitcase but I’ll call you in the morning” she said. He let out a an exasperated sigh, “fineeee. Goodnight Vee” he said. She hung up the phone and finished packing her bag.
Violet was in the middle of washing her face and getting ready for bed when she found herself reminiscing how Matt’s touch felt. She washed the soap off her face and stared back at her reflection in the mirror.
This was bad, really bad, she thought to herself. Overthinking always happened when she was by herself. Late at night when she had no distractions. When everything was silent, when she had nobody to perform for. All she was left with was herself and own brain.
She remembered the conversation from the other night where Matt told her not to go on that date with Olivier. His reasoning being because he’s “selfish”. But what did that even mean? It left too much room for her imagination.
She knew Matt’s approach to relationships was different from hers. She knew the chances of him ever being “serious” with someone were low. For fucks sake he doesn’t even kiss the women he sleeps with because it’s too “intimate”.
But she found herself day dreaming about a future together. She felt dumb for it, to think he would change his ways for someone like her. The idea of it all made her feel foolish.
Violet thought about the lingering touches, the attentiveness, even words and mannerisms and the moments that felt way too real to be just “nothing”. She worried she was reading way too far into it.
Instead of allowing herself to believe Matt and her could ever be something more, she gaslit her self into believing they were nothing at all. And she would continue to do that for as long as she could.
The next day she woke up with a type of excitement that only came when she was around Matt. She spent the morning getting ready, double checking her bag had everything she needed. Phone chargers, digital camera, clothes, her present for Sienna.
The drive to Malibu was only an hour from her house. She drove through the classy neighborhoods admiring the beautiful oceanfront views. When she arrived at the Airbnb she saw a couple of cars already there.
“Happy fucking birthday!” Violet yelled when Sienna opened the door. Sienna smiled and pulled her into a hug. “This place is so nice” Violet said, walking into the Airbnb and looking around the beach house.
While Sienna and her boyfriend Luke left the Airbnb to go get some groceries for the night, Violet and Sienna’s other friends blew up balloons and set up party decorations. Violet already loved the vibes that were being shared.
Around 3 pm a couple more people arrived. Including Matt. He stood there holding a gift bag, smiling big when Violet pulled him into a hug. He wrapped his arms around her, holding her longer than usual.
“Look who decided to show up” Sienna said. Matt let go of Violet and gave Sienna a hug. “Happy birthday” he said. Violet watched as he handed the gift bag to Sienna. “I’ll open it later” Sienna said before placing it onto the kitchen counter with her other gifts.
Girls that Violet didn’t necessarily recognize started appearing, surrounding Matt and Sienna. “What’s your name?” she heard one of the girls ask Matt. “Matt” he responded with a smile. Violet was suddenly distracted by someone handing her a blunt. She took a hit, inhaling the thick smoke before passing it back to one of Sienna’s friends.
Hours went by of socializing and smoking blunts back to back. Sunset arrived quicker than expected. Violet had been in the middle of talking to a mutual friend when Sienna appeared from around the corner. “We’re going swimming babe, let’s go” she said.
Violet followed Sienna, they grabbed their swimsuits and headed to the bathroom. “Are you having a good time?” Violet asked. Sienna took her shirt off, “yeah, what about you?” she asked. Violet nodded her head “today’s not about me” she said.
Violet helped tie Sienna’s bikini top, “yeah but I want to make sure your having a good time too” Sienna said. Violet let out a light giggle, “of course I am girl” she said. Sienna smiled as they looked at themselves in the mirror.
“Have you seen Matt?” Violet asked. Sienna glanced at Violet, “last time I seen him he was with some girls in the kitchen” she said. Violet felt a pit in her stomach form but she immediately masked herself, putting on a rehearsed smile.
Sienna helped tie Violet’s bikini top before they headed back out to the living room. Violet scanned the room, immediately noticing Matt and the pair of girls standing next to him. She watched from afar.
She noticed him smiling and laughing, seemingly enjoying the conversation with the two girls. Violet couldn’t help but feel some type of way. She watched as one of the girls placed a hand on his bicep, laughing as if he she just heard the funniest thing in the world. Violet rolled her eyes.
“Okay everybody let’s go!” Sienna yelled. Everybody followed behind Sienna. The walk to the beach was quick and beautiful. The sound of the waves crashing onto the shore sounded extremely satisfying. The sunset was beautiful, colors of orange and pink blending into one another.
Violet watched as Sienna and her boyfriend raced into the water. Everybody else followed seconds later. Instead of getting in the water right away Violet sat down on the sand. She let her feet seek into the ground, enjoying the sensation. She took a deep breath trying to stay grounded.
She closed her eyes and inhaled. The salty air was refreshing, the warmth of the leftover sun gave her a feeling of peace. She watched Sienna and her friends splash eachother in the water. The air was filled with laughter and loud giggles.
“Hey” she heard from behind her. She didn’t even have to turn around to know who it was, his voice familiar. “Hey” she said. Matt sat down next to her on the sand, “you okay?” he asked. She nodded her head.
“Why aren’t you swimming with the rest of them?” he asked. She shrugged her shoulders. Matt noticed the tense energy Violet carried. Something was wrong and he could tell. “Get out of your head, Vee” he said. She turned to look at him, “I’m trying” she responded.
There was a brief moment of silence before he grabbed onto her hand. “Tell me what your thinking about” he said. She looked down at his hand holding onto hers. “Nothing” she lied, faking a smile. He gave her a look of disapproval. “You can lie to anyone in the world, but not to me” he said. She let out a deep breath.
“Just wanna make sure Sienna has a good day” she said. “She is, look at her. She’s in her element right now” Matt said. Violet took a look at Sienna and smiled. “Come swim with me, yeah?” he said. Violet smiled.
They swam together for an hour before returning back to the airbnb. Once they got back inside and changed they went back into the kitchen where they sang happy birthday to Sienna and cut pieces of the red velvet birthday cake.
Sienna took her time opening each gift, thanking everybody for their love. “Thank you all so much” Sienna said with a big grin. As night time arrived more and more people started to leave. Sienna and Luke danced in the living room. Violet sat on the couch smoking a blunt with a girl named Melanie. Trying to distract herself from the fact that Matt had been distant all day. Other than them swimming together he has been focused on every other girl here besides her tonight.
Violet let the music and thc guide her into a state of relaxation. She watched Sienna and Luke laugh and dance, admiring the look of love. Craving to experience it for herself one day. Melanie passed the blunt to Violet before cheering for Sienna and Luke.
Violet grabbed onto her phone and started to scroll through social media. She scrolled and scrolled before ending up on Elle Magazine’s latest post. A perfectly curated photo dump of Matt and some blonde Model in each picture.
She swiped through the pictures, feeling sick to her stomach seeing how touchy and close their bodies were. She knew that modeling was his job. And that getting close and personal with girls was part of the job. She just hated seeing how good they looked together.
She looked closely at the photos. His hands placed on the other models body, the look he had in his eyes when looking at the model. All of it was too much. She wanted to cry or throw up, or maybe both.
Her feelings felt invalid. It wasn’t her place to feel like this. Maybe if they were something serious. Maybe if they were in a relationship. But they weren’t. And she started to hate herself for feeling like this. Insecure. Jealous. Possessive.
“Pass me the blunt” Sienna said, bringing Violet back to reality. Violet handed Sienna the blunt, “I’ll be right back” she said before getting up off the couch and walking to the room she was planning to stay in for the night.
The moment Violet entered the room she shut the door and let out a deep exhale. She couldn’t get out of her head for the life of her. Anxiety started to creep in. She needed space. She needed to breathe. Or to sleep. Or eat. Or anything. Literally anything to get her out of her head.
She sat on the bed and stared at her hands. She blinked. Violet debated on telling Sienna she was going home. She was going to feel shitty about it but she didn’t know what else to do. She usually wanted to be around people but right now isolation sounded like a warm blanket.
Knock. Knock. Knock.
The door opened.
He walked in slowly, almost as if he was scared he was interrupting something. “Vee” he said. She blinked, “hmm” she hummed. He walked closer to the bed. “What’s wrong?” he asked. Tears started to form in her eyes. She couldn’t pin point any explanation.
“Can I sit with you?” he asked. She nodded her head. “Can you tell me what’s going through your head?” he said. Violet shook her head no, “I don’t know”. He stared at her, his chest aching, he wanted to do anything in his power to make her feel better.
She avoided eye contact with him. Scared that he won’t like what he sees. Scared of how vulnerable she felt. She remembered the girls from earlier that were gawking over him. And the way he entertained it. The way he had spent more time with random girls today than he had with her. The photos she’d just seen less than 10 minutes ago. She hated it. She hated this. Whatever this was.
“Vee” he said. She blinked, “hmm” she hummed. “Look at me” he said. She looked up at him, his gaze soft, empathetic. “Come here” he said. She didn’t move. “Vee, come here” he repeated. She moved her body closer to him this time.
Once she was sitting directly in front of him his hand moved to her face, caressing her cheek ever so gently. The touch immediately giving her some type of relief. “Tell me what you need Vee” he said. Her heart twisted. You, I need you, she thought to herself.
“I’m okay Matt. We should probably get back out into the living room. Sienna’s probably wondering where we are” she said. Matt shook his head no, “her and Luke called it a night, they were practically eating each others faces” he said. That got a genuine giggle from Violet.
“That’s my girl, such a pretty smile” Matt coaxed, caressing her check still. Violet felt her stomach flip, their eyes locking. “You wanna lay down?” he asked. She nodded her head. Violet grabbed the tv remote, turning the tv on before getting underneath the blankets.
There was some distance between their bodies for awhile. Neither of them moving. Neither of them acknowledging the fact they were both desperate for the others touch.
Matt was the first to give in. “Can you come closer?” he said. She moved a little bit, still some distance between them. “No Vee, I need you closer” he said before wrapping his arms around her body and pulling her into him.
Her body immediately relaxed into his. The touch making her feel grounded, safe and comfortable. It was crazy how impactful how the simple action was. How easily it calmed her. How powerful it was. She craved it. She needed it.
Her eyes focused on the tv even though her mind was focused on something else. “You gonna tell me what’s got you so in your head?” he asked. “I don’t know- I just feel like you’ve been so distant today” she responded truthfully. She hated the way it sounded coming out of her mouth. “Distant?” he said. She nodded her head.
“I’m sorry Vee, I didn’t mean to be distant on purpose” he said, rubbing onto her back softly. “You should have said something sooner” he said. Violet let out an exhale, “you looked busy” she said. Matt knew what she was implying. She was aware of how magnetic his energy was to girls, how they gravitated towards him naturally. But that didn’t stop her from feeling sick whenever she witnessed it in real life.
“I don’t want any of them” he simply stated. She stayed quiet, the silence louder than anything. She moved her body away from him, just enough to where she could see his face. “You swear?” she asked. “I swear” he said like he was sure of himself. They stared at each other in silence for awhile, getting lost in one another's eyes.
“I saw the photoshoot you did” Violet said, breaking the silence. “You did?” he asked. “Yeah, you and that model look good as a unit” Violet said. Matt could tell she felt some type of way. And he understood why. The model and him were practically all over each other in the photos. He shook his head, “it was just for the camera” he said.
She backed away from him some more, wiggling her way out of his grip. “I’m being for real, you guys looked good together” she said trying not to sound jealous. He grabbed onto her and pulled her back into his chest, forcing her to stay still. “It’s my job to make it look convincing, Vee. The girls don’t mean anything to me” he said.
Despite wanting to escape his hold, her mind telling her the more distance the better, her body betrayed her. She embraced his hold. And even with how close their bodies were already, pressed into one another, she wanted to be even closer. She needed the closeness. She basked in his touch, closing her eyes for a moment.
His hand slid underneath the loose t shirt she was wearing, touching the bare skin on her back. Her body tensed, goosebumps immediately appeared. “Relax” he said softly, continuing to draw lazy patterns into her skin. His fingers traced down her spine, she practically melted underneath the simple touches. She hated how good it felt, she hated that she wanted more. “Feel good?” he asked. “Yeah” she quietly admitted.
It made her embarrassingly needy. And he could tell. He enjoyed seeing her body adjust to his touch. He had a craving, specifically for her soul. He wanted it. He needed it. He wanted to give to her, provide pleasure in any way that he could.
His hand moved from her back to her waist, gripping onto her softly. “I love the way you touch me” she whispered. “Yeah?” he said. She nodded her head shyly, the energy in the room turning into something much more heavy. She couldn’t form any coherent thoughts when his hand moved to her hip.
He wanted to touch her where she needed the most, but he was trying to stay respectful. He could tell by the body language that she was already struggling to keep herself composed. So touch deprived. So desperate.
“You’re so needy, Vee” he said with a smile of amusement. Her lips formed into a pout, suddenly feeling insecure. “It’s not a bad thing” he spoke. “It’s not?” she asked. He shook his head no, letting his fingers sink deeper into her hip.
“Matt” she said, trying to keep her voice steady. “Yeah?” he said. There was a pause before she continued. “I- I don’t know” she said, unable to properly articulate how she felt. “What is it pretty girl? Use your words for me” he said.
Her body was on fire, electricity running through her veins. Matt leaned closer into her, their faces inches apart. Violet’s heartbeat fastened, the closeness causing her breath to hitch. She avoided eye contact to the best of ability, her eyes landing on his lips instead.
His hand traveled from her hip, up her side, until it reached her face. He caressed her cheek gently, “come on Vee, you can tell me” he coaxed. She swallowed as he brushed the dangling pieces of hair out of her face.
“I’m not one of your hoes, Matt” she whispered, her eyes still focused on his lips. “I don’t have hoes anymore” he said, letting his finger brush her bottom lip. He let his finger run over her bottom lip some more, loving how plush and soft it felt. They locked eyes.
Both of them were met with pure temptation. So close to giving in to their deepest desires. They were so lost in each other’s presence. Both of them struggled to not let their self control slip entirely. The tension in the air was deadly.
He grabbed onto her jaw and squeezed her cheeks. “You’re so beautiful” he said. Her stomach flipped. He stared at her lips, thinking that the taste of them could save him from this intense amount of need he was feeling.
He leaned slightly closer into her. Violet’s pulse quickened as he caressed her face. His gaze was filled with something indecipherable. She struggled to keep her breath steady. Their bodies were practically pressed together at this point. So close yet so hesitant.
She pulled away suddenly, backing away from him. “Vee” he said. She didn’t respond, she didn’t know how. She laid on her back now, closing her eyes and taking a deep breath. “Goodnight” she said. He was puzzled at the way she was actively shutting down.
“Don’t do that” he said. “Do what?” she asked. “Don’t pretend with me” he said. She glanced over at him for a moment before returning her eyes to the tv. “Stop pulling back, Vee” he spoke softly. She looked at him, really looked at him.
“What do you want Matt?” she asked, coming off more snappy than intended. He looked at her, confusion written all over his face. “You Vee, I want… you” he said. Her facial expressions were cold, masking herself as unphased and unbothered.
She turned around, laying on her side and away from him. “Don’t say things like that” she said. “Why not?” he asked. “Because, Matt” she said. He didn’t understand where she was coming from. He took a deep breath, the silence deafening. Her heart ached, her emotions swallowing her whole.
Violet was just trying to protect herself. She knew about his past reputation, she knew he didn’t do relationships. Violet wanted boundaries, needed boundaries, in order to keep him in her life. She feared that shoving how she really felt deep down took a lot more mental maintenance than she originally thought. And it didn’t help when Matt would touch her and be verbally affectionate.
She assumed Matt’s intentions were to keep her wrapped around his finger like every other girl based off the patterns of his past history. And she wasn’t going to fall for it. She wasn’t going to be his toy. If she was going to continue to be around Matt she figured she’d need self control and to win the war between her heart and mind.
On the other hand Matt was confused as he laid next to her. He didn’t know why she had all the sudden put up walls. He didn’t like the physical distance, and he surely didn’t like the way she was trying to push him away. He couldn’t put the pieces together.
He wanted to be with Violet. Not for sex. Not for money. Not for some lame, ignorant reason. But because he was so deeply consumed by her. In ways he never really thought could be possible.
And yeah it scared him. But that didn’t stop him from wanting more. He thought of if he couldn’t have her, if she didn’t want him back, if all of this was for nothing, then he simply would never be able to know peace again.
All he wanted was her. Only her.
And all she wanted was him. Only him.
But they were both so caught up in their heads, both operating from doubt and fear. Both of them were ready to risk everything for eachother. But tonight they failed to execute and act accordingly.
Unbeknownst to them, this would be the last time they shared a bed together with so much uncertainty and misunderstanding.

Matt’s POV
Matt woke up with Violet on his mind. It’d been a month since her birthday and a week since he last hung out with her. He was practically feigning to be around her again but their work schedules kept getting in the way. He was over it. He just wanted to be around the one person who made him feel like a real human. That one person being Violet.
Today was one of those days Matt questioned his career choice. If all of this was really worth it or not. And it wasn’t that he normally didn’t let himself think about it, it was the fact that he never had time to actually think about it.
Matt ate breakfast this morning while getting lost in daydreams about his plans with Violet later today. He caught himself more times than not thinking about her in times he should be focused and alert. It was unusual behavior for him, he wasn’t used to things like that.
He spent time checking emails and messages from his agent. While Matt got dressed he stared at himself in the mirror. He ran his fingers through his hair dreading the work that he needed to do today.
On the drive to his set he debated calling Violet. He wanted to hear her voice, know what was going on in her mind. When he got to a stoplight he looked down at his phone debating on pressing the call button.
He wondered to himself how feeling this clingy was possible. How finding himself spending every work day he had off with her became a habit. Her eyes flashed in his brain, the eyes he truly felt like he could never get tired of seeing.
The sudden noise of a car honking behind him brought him back to reality. He looked up and realized the stoplight had turned green. He set his phone down and continued to try and focus on the drive.
When he got on set he was put into a chair where a makeup team made him look more alive with concealer and the hair stylist tamed the mess of hair on his head. He drank sips of black coffee and conversated with the people around him, preparing for the photoshoot he was scheduled to do.
The next hour him and the stylist were focused on fittings. It was hard for him to pay attention to anything, so lost in his head. “Okay, we’re ready whenever you are” the photographer said. Matt smiled and they headed to a designated room that was decorated and designed specifically for these types of photos.
Matt knew what was coming as the model Penelope stepped into the room. He gave her a smile, polite and welcoming. The model studied Matt’s poses, focused and captivated by how effortless his movements were.
“Alright let’s switch rooms” the photographer said. Matt and Penelope walked next to eachother on the way into the room. “You're really good at this” she said. “Thank you” he said with a smile. Penelope and Matt walked into the room and waited for directions.
They took picture after picture. Some of the pictures looking like two people in love, others turning out looking like it was taken straight from 50 shades of grey. Matt didn’t mind how touchy him and Penelope had to be for some photos, considering he’s done this more times than he could count. But in the back of his head he hated the feeling of someone who’s not Violet.
“Okay everybody, we’re done for today” the photographer said. Matt was relieved and ready to leave the set. When he got changed and back into his regular clothes he picked up his phone and checked the time.
“Hey” he heard from behind him. He turned around to be met with Penelope. He smiled, “hey” he said. “You're like a natural at this” she said. He shook his head, “not true, just years of experience” he responded.
“Well i’m new to all this and feel like I could use a better teacher on these kinds of things” she said. Matt chuckled and shrugged his shoulders. “Is there anything you need help with? You teach me a couple things and I could teach you… a couple things” she said with sultry lacing her tone, taking a step closer to Matt.
Matt’s eyebrows furrowed for a moment, realizing her implications. “Uhh- I don’t-” he started before she grabbed onto his bicep lightly. He looked down at her hand on his arm, "I'm sorry but I have to go” he said, stepping away from her. Her face faltered for a moment before she scoffed and walked away.
Matt was used to girls throwing themselves at him but Penelope in particular was bold. When girls threw themselves at him he would always take the opportunity to have fun. Well, he used to.
Ever since Violet appeared in his life he hasn’t been able to even look at another girl without wishing it was her. He’s not impressed by any of them, not focused on any of them, or even tempted by any of them. He didn’t want to dissect what that meant so he shoved it down as far as he could.
On the drive to Violet’s he listened to music, nodding his head to the beat of the music. He had a wave of energy hit him, he felt happy. It almost felt like he had withdrawls from being away from Violet. She was addictive. But he didn’t mind.
The sun was shining, strangers smiled at eachother on the streets, the wind was blowing just right. Nothing could bring him down today. Nothing. There was a feeling of joy that was so overwhelming buried deep in his bones the closer he got to Violet’s house.
As he pulled into Violet’s driveway he noticed another vehicle sitting in her driveway. It was an unfamiliar vehicle he’d never seen parked at her house before. But he didn’t put too much thought into it. He parked and shut his car engine off, smiling to himself.
He walked up to her front door and knocked. After a few seconds of waiting with no response he thought about calling her. He knocked once more before pulling out his phone. Just when he was about to press the call button the door opened.
Matt’s smile faltered, his eyebrows furrowing slightly. “Hey, Oliver was just leaving. Come inside” Violet spoke as Oliver stood next to her with an awkward smile. Matt froze for a moment, confused and caught off guard.
“I’ll text you” Oliver said to Violet, slipping past Matt and walking to his car. Matt and Violet stared at eachother in silence for a moment. “Why do you look like you’ve seen a ghost? Come inside” she said before grabbing onto Matt’s hand and dragging him inside.
Matt felt unsettled. Seeing Oliver was something he didn’t expect and it threw off his energy completely. The excitement he felt earlier disappeared faster than it arrived. He didn’t know what to say or how to navigate what he felt. A devastatingly large pit in his stomach formed.
Oliver was the man Violet was dancing with on her birthday. Flashbacks of the way Oliver grabbed onto Violet on her birthday flooded Matt’s memory. He didn’t expect to see him again, especially here, especially now.
Violet let go of Matt’s hand as they sat down on the couch together. “How did the photoshoot go?” she asked. He stared back at her, noticing how she wasn’t addressing the elephant in the room. “Uh- it was good, nothing interesting happened” he responded.
She noticed the weird tension he carried, her eyebrows furrowing. “What’s wrong?” she asked. Matt tried his best to mask everything. But she was naturally observant. “Nothing” he said with a smile that wasn’t anywhere near convincing.
“You're lying” she said. He scratched the back of his head, “uhh- nothings wrong, the photoshoot was just long and boring” he said, trying to make himself sound believable. Violet stared at him, observing his energy.
Matt and Violet talked some more before coming up with an idea to go out to eat. They chose some place that wasn’t popular and crowded, in hopes to stay away from paparazzi and awkward interactions with fans.
Matt decided to not ask any questions about Oliver. In hopes she would eventually bring it up on her own time.
On the drive there they had easy conversation with light banter and jokes that were so unfunny that they inevitably became funny. At one point Violet rolled down the windows, letting the wind flow through her hair, letting her hand hang out of the window.
Matt felt a strange twist in his heart as he watched her laugh and smile, so much beautiful energy radiating from her soul that it made it hard for him to breathe steady. She turned the music up and sang along to the words, so careless, so alive.
He couldn’t get enough of her.
“Come on sing with me” she yelled over the music before grabbing his hand and waving it around. He smiled, trying to keep his eyes on the road. She continued to sing the lyrics, still holding onto Matt’s hand.
He was fascinated with how free she seemed. He admired it deeply.
When pulling up to the restaurant him and Violet scanned their surroundings before getting out of the vehicle. “I heard they have good bread here” Violet said as they walked into the restaurant.
The hostess sat them down in a booth and handed them menus. “I’m so hungry” she spoke. He chuckled, “me too” he said. They pondered on what food to get, eventually the both of them settling on pasta.
A waitress came over holding a pen and pad, “what would you guys like to drink?” she said. “I’ll take a lemonade” Violet said. “I’ll just have a glass of water” Matt said, watching the waitress write down their drinks. “I’ll be right back with those drinks for you guys”.
“I like the art they have in here, it adds character” Violet said. Matt looked around the restaurant, the dim lighting and big chandeliers hanging from the ceiling gave it an atmosphere that felt exclusive, almost slightly intimate.
They talked amongst themselves for awhile before the waitress arrived with their drinks. “Are you guys ready to order or do you need some more time?” the waitress asked.
“I’ll have the lobster ravioli” Violet said with a polite smile. “I’ll have the same as her” Matt said. The waitress smiled and grabbed their menus, “it’ll be out shortly” she said. “Thank you” Violet and Matt said in unison.
Matt and Violet continued to talk about whatever crossed their minds, getting lost in conversation as usual. Everytime they talked they would bounce off eachothers ideas. The conversation changed topics atleast 20 times in the span of 10 minutes.
“I missed you” Violet said. Matt’s heartbeat skipped a beat. “I missed you more” he responded. Violet smiled, “did you though?” she asked in a playful tone. Matt nodded his head, their eyes locking. “I did” he said. A sudden tension was starting to brew between the two.
“Felt like you forgot about me for a second” Violet joked. “I would never forget about you” he said, nudging her leg with his knee underneath the table. “You promise?” she said, staring at him with a hesitant expression. He nodded his head, “I promise” he said. She nudged his leg back with her knee, a big smile on her face.
The waitress brought the plates of food to their table, “enjoy” she said before walking away. The two of them ate their food, giggling in between bites, laughing at eachothers dumb jokes. They let their legs touch beneath the table, both of them subcounciously needing physical contact.
When it was time to pay Matt pulled out his card and handed it to the waitress. “Do you have to go home after this?” Violet asked. He shook his head no “not unless you want me to” he said. “No, I want you to come back to my place” she said. He nodded his head, “okay” he said.
“Here’s your card back for you, will we be seeing you two at happy hour? Since the owner just got married last week he has a deal going on for couples to get 50% off any drinks” the waitress said. Matt and Violet looked at eachother, an awkward silence took over the table.
“Oh wow! We just got married last week too” Violet suddenly said. The waitress gasped, a big grin appearing on her face. “We did?” Matt said, caught off guard. Violet grabbed onto his hand, “oh honey don’t be so silly, this is my husband… John” Violet said, winking at Matt with a smile.
“Oh my gosh, I just love, love” the waitress said. Matt was so caught off guard that all he could do was laugh. “We’d love to come back for happy hour but we’re actually supposed to board our plane to head back to Italy in a couple hours” Violet lied.
“Italy! Wowww” the waitress dragged out. “Well I wish you guys safe travels, and congratulations, marriage is beautiful” the waitress cheered. “Of course, have a good day” Violet said as Matt and her headed towards the restaurant exit.
Once they were outside Matt and Violet spiraled into balls of laughter. They grabbed onto their belly’s, laughing so hard they could barely breathe. “What was that?” Matt asked, trying to catch his breath. Violet shrugged her shoulders, “just having fun” she said.
They got into Matt’s car and headed back to Violet’s house. The car ride was calm and peaceful, the sun starting to set. Matt focused on the road while Violet stared out the passenger window. The two of them feeling good, grounded, present.
Violet turned up the music that was playing in the car. Matt looked over at her, mesmerized by her presence. She turned to look at Matt, locking eyes. “What?” she asked. He shrugged his shoulders and smiled, no words, no response. Just a feeling that everything would be okay as long as she was next to him.
When they pulled into Violet’s driveway the sun was almost all the way down. “I think that waiter was so cute, she was so happy to hear that we got married” Violet said as they walked in her front door. Matt chuckled, “we should have invited her to the non existent wedding we had” Matt said.
They sat down on Violet’s couch after taking their shoes off on the front door. “You wanna watch the new horror movie that just came out?” Violet asked. “Yeah I’m down” Matt responded. “Okay good, i’ve been wanting to watch it for awhile I just refuse to watch scary movies by myself” she said. He chuckled, “that’s valid” he said.
Violet put some popcorn in the microwave and grabbed bottles of water. Matt waited on the couch for her return, turning his phone on silent so that way he had no distractions. When Violet walked back into the living room all he could do was stare at her.
She sat down next to him, “okay apparently there's jumpscares. So be prepared” she said. He nodded his head. She grabbed onto the remote and scrolled on her t.v. to find the movie. She pressed play and they let the movie begin.
Violet placed the popcorn in between them and focused her energy onto the screen. Matt struggled to focus on the movie, glancing at Violet every few minutes. “Fuck, i’m calling it right now, the main character is definitely going to die” she said. Matt laughed, “I agree” he said.
The both of them went to grab popcorn from the bowl, their hands meeting, brushing ever so slightly. Matt’s jaw clenched before putting on a smile to hide the feelings that the simple touch gave him. Violet’s eyes lingered a little longer than normal before smiling and popping the popcorn into her mouth.
30 minutes of them watching the movie in silence a jumpscare happened and Violet’s body jumped, “oh my god” she yelled, clutching onto the blanket near her. Matt laughed at her reaction and shook his head. She pulled the blanket over her body, making sure she was fully covered.
The popcorn was long gone by now, the bowl sitting empty on the coffee table. “I’m fucking scared as shit right now” Violet whispered, looking over at Matt. He smiled, “come over here” he said, opening his arms wide for her.
She gave Matt a look of hesitation, almost unsure if she should move or not. “I don’t bite, Vee” he said, causing her to smile. She moved her position, lying down near him, his arms wrapping around her.
Matt and Violet continued to watch the scary movie, the both of them trying to focus on the screen rather than the closeness of their bodies. Matt spooned her, his arm wrapped around her waist. “This movie is fucked up” Violet said, grabbing onto Matt’s hand. “I agree” he said.
Violet played with his hand almost in an absentminded way, not exactly intentional, just loving the way his hand was there. As she fidgeted with his hand Matt noticed, but he didn’t mind. Although for something so small and simple it felt incredibly intimate.
They let the movie continue to play and by the time it was over Violet wasn’t even watching it anymore. She had already turned over to face Matt, her legs over his while snuggled into his chest. He had been running his hand through her hair for awhile, letting her fade into a sound sleep.
He didn’t know if he should move or not. He didn’t want to wake her but he also didn’t know what the plan was. As in if she wanted him to stay the night or not. He contemplated for awhile as he continued to run his fingers through her hair.
Ring. Ring. Ring.
Violets phone that sat on the coffee table started to ring. Her body started to move, stretching and shifting. “Vee” he whispered, trying to wake her. “Huhh” she let out, half asleep still. “Your phone is ringing” he said. She opened her eyes, squinting a bit as she adjusted to the light.
She moved her position and looked around for a moment before reaching over to the coffee table and grabbing her phone. She took one look at the caller ID before declining the call and setting her phone back down. “I’m sorry I don’t even remember falling asleep” she said. Matt smiled “it’s okay” he said.
Violet yawned, “can you spend the night?” she asked. “Mhm” he hummed. Violet grabbed onto the t.v remote and pressed the off button before standing up.
“Come with me” she said, walking towards her bedroom. And so he did, he followed behind her into her bedroom. She turned on a lamp and started searching through her dresser for clothes to change into.
She handed Matt a pair of sweatpants that she stole from her dad a couple years ago. “I don’t have a shirt that will fit you” she said. Matt shrugged his shoulders “it’s okay”. Violet walked over to the master bathroom, “you can sleep sleep shirtless, I won’t mind” she said before closing the bathroom door.
Matt took his shirt off and changed into the sweatpants she had given him. When she walked back in to her room all she could do was stay frozen and stare. “What?” he said. “Nothing” she smiled before getting onto her bed and underneath the blankets.
The two of them laid in Violet’s bed now, 2 am approaching. They faced eachother, talking about whatever nonsense their sleep deprived brains could muster up. “You have so many tattoos” Violet said. Matt nodded his head as he watched Violet’s hand reach out to his arm.
“What is this one for?” she asked, letting her fingers trace over the ink. “It’s for my mom” he responded. Violet looked up at him for a moment, “are you close with your mom?” she asked. “Yeah, I’d do anything for her” Matt said.
“What is your mom like?” she asked. “She’s generous and caring. Always making people smile, always offering some form of support to people” he said, thinking back to all the memories in Boston. Violet smiled, loving the way Matt’s eyes lit up when talking about his mother.
“And your dad?” she asked. “My dad is the greatest. Super chill, super annoying but very understanding and kind” he said. Violet asked more questions about his family, curious and wanting to know more. Wanting to know more beyond surface level.
Matt talked about what it was like growing up in Boston. The differences between the east coast and west coast. The memories that were hard to forget and the people that would forever hold a special place in his heart.
Matt started to ask Violet questions, wanting to know more about what it was like for her growing up. Craving more depth. They took turns asking questions, delving deeper into their backgrounds, the struggles they faced and how they ended up here.
The topic changes numerous times, losing track of time, so focused on one another. “I miss Trevor though, he’s my best friend" Matt said. Violet gasped with fake offense, “wow” she said. Matt chuckled, “you’re my best friend too” he said.
Violet’s lips formed into a pout, “so is that what you are to me? Just a best friend? I thought we were partners in crime, ride or dies” Violet joked. Matt looked at her, really looked at her.
He could see through any mask she tried wearing, he could see through the party girl act. He noticed she played with her earrings anytime she was nervous or anxious. He could tell when her smile wasn’t real, almost like it was rehearsed. He could tell the difference between her fake vs. genuine laugh.
He noticed her attempts to hide behind humor. He noticed the patterns of self doubt, the way she picked at her nails when she was in deep thought. He could see her, really see her. And he admired every part.
Relationships weren’t his thing. At all. But he’d be lying if he said he didn’t want something more with Violet. There was something about her that was so special, so real. Kissing people was against his own rules but god, her lips looked so good right now.
“I’ll be anything you want me to be” he said. The words slipped out without thinking. But Matt still meant exactly what he said. Their eyes locked, a moment of silence passed. Violet had a skeptical smile on her face. “You will?” she asked. Matt nodded his head slowly but surely.
Violet went quiet, that face she gets when she’s thinking deeply appeared. “We should sleep, it’s getting late” she said. He nodded his head in agreement as she turned the lamp off.
They laid there in the dark, a safe enough distance between their bodies. But the distance didn’t last long before Matt grabbed onto Violet and pulled her into him. He spooned her, cautious about where his hands were placed.
A long period of silence passed.
And then…
“Matt” Violet said. “Hmm?” he hummed. There was a slight hesitation before she responded. “Would it be a bad thing if I wanted you all to myself?” she asked, her voice soft and quiet. Matt took a deep breath, “no” he spoke. His hand moved from her stomach to her waist, eventually landing on her hip.
“What kind of woman would I be if I went on a date with someone to distract myself from who I really wanted” she whispered. “What are you talking about Vee?” he asked, confused. “Oliver. He wants to take me on a date” she said. Matt’s heart skipped a beat, a pit forming in his stomach.
“Are you gonna go?” was all Matt managed to say. “You didn’t answer my question” she said. “You didn’t answer mine either” he responded. The energy in the room was charged, practically explosive. The both of them tip toeing around something that was so obvious.
“Do you think I should go Matt?” she asked. “Do you want to go Vee?” he asked. She backed her body further into him, her ass now firmly placed against his crotch. His hand gripped onto her hip, temptation crossing his mind. He couldn’t help but want more. More touch, more time, more her.
“Oliver is good to me. Giving him a chance wouldn’t hurt I guess” she said. Matt’s jaw clenched, his hand tightening the grip he had on her hip. The way her body fit so perfectly against his was driving him insane. He tried to keep his composure but his cock was getting harder and harder by the second.
“Don’t go” he said quietly. “What?” Violet said. “You heard me Vee, don’t go” he whispered before lightly pressing into her further, his hard member rubbing against her ass. Her breath hitched, goosebumps appeared all over her skin.
“Why?” she whispered, faking her ability to not put two and two together. His hand moved from her hip back to her stomach. “Because I’m selfish” he responded. He said so much while simultaneously saying barely anything at all. Her hand grabbed onto his, holding it ever so gently.
“Goodnight Matt” she said.
“Goodnight Vee” he said.

ᢉ𐭩 : starring Matthew Sturniolo & Violet Monroe
previous part. masterlist.
Turning 22 years old was a milestone that Violet wasn’t sure she was ready to happen. She always hated her birthdays since she was a little girl. Always ending up disappointed from the lack of love or excitement from others that she was shown on her birthdays.
Her birthday last year was probably one of the worst ones she’s had. She didn’t do anything other than work a 12 hour filming day for the movie she was in. She cried that night when she got back to her hotel, tears falling into the tub of ice cream she ate alone.
But this year was different. She had friends now, support teams and more money than she’s ever had before. She didn’t want to let today be another sob story. She was determined to have fun.
Last week she sent out invitations to everyone. Her birthday was being hosted at a nightclub that she rented for tonight, people of all kinds were expected to show up. She woke up this morning feeling anxious and stressed. But it didn’t last long due to receiving flowers at her door from a special someone.
It was bright and early when she heard the knock at her door. She wasn’t expecting company but when she opened the door she had the biggest smile ever. “Happy Birthday” he said, a bouquet of flowers in his hand. “Thank you Matt” she said, pulling him into a hug.
They sat and talked about the plans for later while eating breakfast together. He reassured her that it would be a good time as they ate pancakes and bacon. “Don’t be so worrisome” he said before taking a bite of his bacon.
Shortly after he left her manager came over and surprised her with presents. The rest of the day passed by quickly. By the time it was time to head to the nightclub Violet was getting more anxious by the second.
The party had already started but Violet was in her room at home contemplating on whether she should even go or not. She knew everybody at the club was waiting for her. But the thought of staying home sounded better.
Until she received a text from a friend asking where she was at. She looked back into the mirror. I can handle it, she thought to herself. She could make it through tonight with no problems, everything would be okay. She debated and contemplated but in the end she convinced herself to make an appearance at her own party.
Sienna showed up at Violet's door with a bottle of vodka. “Happy birthday” she cheered before pulling Violet into a hug. “I’m just finishing getting ready” Violet said as Sienna followed her to her bedroom.
Sienna and Violet touched up their makeup before calling an uber. As they waited for the uber to arrive Sienna and Violet took a shot of vodka and took some pictures. “You literally look so hot” Sienna said, angling the camera just right. “Girl stop, you look even better” Violet said with a smile.
A couple more minutes passed before the uber was outside waiting for them. As they got into the uber they giggled with excitement. “We’re gonna have such a good time” Sienna said. The uber ride was quick and before you know it they were arriving at the club.
“Violet!” someone screamed her name the moment she walked into the club. The club was packed and full of people who were already drunk and under the influence of whatever drugs they chose for the night.
“Take a shot with me” one of Violet’s old co-stars said. Violet and her friends started taking shots together, some of the shots tequila, others vodka. She tried not to mix liquors, but tonight was an exception. The club lights were dim as people danced around. The bass of the music vibrated through her ribcage as chaos surrounded her.
2 hours later after socializing with every person she ran into, and being greeted with “happy birthday” every 5 seconds, she was starting to enter a state of euphoria. Sienna grabbed onto Violet, grinding on her as they laughed.
Violet reached into her purse to check her phone. Matt had texted her 30 minutes ago saying he was on his way there. Which meant he should be here by now. She pressed the call button on her phone. The call rang and rang but there was no response.
Violet shoved her phone back into her purse. “Help me find Matt!” Violet yelled over at Sienna. They slid past sweaty, dancing bodies as they walked through the crowd. After a while Violet was on the verge of giving up. Maybe he left, she thought to herself. She had some thoughts about trying to call him again, hoping this time he would answer.
“Wait, is that him over there?” Sienna yelled and pointed into a corner of the club. Violet walked closer in the club corner's direction to get a better look. Sienna happened to be right, it was him. But he was standing next to Rose, the girl who had told Violet about sleeping with him.
A pit in Violet's stomach formed, jealousy seeped beneath her skin as her eyes locked on Rose and Matt. Sienna looked at Violet with a confused expression. “Do you want to go talk to him?” Sienna asked. Violet faked a smile, “no, he looks busy” she said.
Sienna gave her a look of disapproval. “Girl, it's your birthday. Fuck Rose, I’m gonna go get him” Sienna said. Violet tried to grab Sienna’s arm but she was already on the way to get Matt. “Fuck” Violet said under her breath.
She didn’t want Matt to think she was jealous. They weren’t even a thing. Right? All their late night hangouts and talks didn’t equal anything serious. Just friends. She wasn’t in the right state to lecture herself over feeling jealousy for Matt talking to one of the people he slept with. She shoved it down and tried to distract herself.
She quickly went to the other side of the club, hoping to get lost in the crowd. 30 minutes later she was dancing around her friends, the music blasting, people passing shots of alcohol and passing blunts. The thoughts of Matt and Rose were far gone by now.
Violet was now completely immersed in the party, having fun and loving the way her body felt. Violet felt someone grab her shoulder. She turned around, “oh my god! I haven’t seen you in so long” she yelled over the music.
Oliver Myers, a co-star from the latest show she played in, stood in front of her. “Happy Birthday!” he yelled. She hugged him tightly, “take a shot with me” she said. Seconds later she was swallowing the burning liquid, “holy shit!” she yelled before laughing.
Oliver and Violet started to dance together. Her body felt light, her head spinning as laughter spilled from her mouth. People around them danced, laughed and partied like there was no tomorrow.
Violet grabbed onto Oliver, losing herself in the music. She turned around and let her body press against his, grinding onto him without a care in the world. Her ass rubbed against crotch, his hands grabbing onto her hips.
“Violet!” she heard her name being called. But she was so fucked up in the moment that she didn’t care. So in the moment and careless. “Violet!” she heard again. She turned back around to face Oliver. He smiled as she wrapped her arms around his neck.
His hands went down to her waist and then slowly but surely found their way to her ass. He gripped onto her ass and she laughed as their eyes locked. One moment he was touching her and smiling, the next moment he was being yanked away and shoved off her.
“What the fuck!” she yelled. Matt stood there next to Sienna. Sienna looked confused and Matt had an unreadable expression on his face. “Why would you do that?” she yelled at Matt. Matt didn’t respond, he just stood there.
Sienna looked between the two of them, not exactly sure what she was witnessing. “I looked for you but you were busy!” Violet yelled and tried to walk away. But before she could move Matt grabbed onto her wrist. “Don’t do that Vee, I came here for you!” he yelled over the music. Violet scoffed, “go back to Rose!” she yelled before wiggling her wrist out of Matt’s hold.
She made sure to go the opposite direction as Matt. That stupid image of Matt and Rose talking in the club corner wouldn’t leave her mind. Feeling this jealous over a friend was ridiculous. So she tried to run from the feeling, accepting every shot handed to her, taking more hits of the blunts being passed around.
An hour had passed and she was now standing in front of the club as everyone sang happy birthday while her friends brought out a massive cake. She blew out the candles and everybody cheered. She felt like she was floating. Almost like she was having an out of body experience.
After spending more time on the dance floor she reached into her purse to grab her phone and take pictures. And that’s when she noticed a text message from an area code that was too familiar.
She opened the message.
“Happy birthday Violet. Your dad and I would be surprised if you're still alive. Hopefully this is the year you grow up and realize how fucked up your decisions have been. Whenever you're ready to apologize feel free to reach out”.
Violet's heart sank to her stomach. Tears immediately formed in her eyes. She had lost track of Sienna awhile ago but needed to find her asap. She needed to leave. She needed to run. She needed to hide. To escape.
She walked through the crowd trying to search for Sienna, her vision blurry. After what felt like forever she gave up. The people in the crowd were too fucked up to realize Violet was practically sobbing by now.
She closed her eyes for a second, trying to ground herself and breathe. But she couldn’t. Not now. Not here. While her eyes were closed she felt somebody wrap their arms around her and pull them into their body.
Violet didn’t care who it was at the moment. She only knew that being held felt nice. “Come on, let’s go” a man’s voice said. The voice was familiar, too familiar. She quickly realized Matt was leading her outside of the club.
“Matt” she cried, her hand in his. She stumbled through the crowd, her balance shaky. Matt called an uber as they reached the club exit doors. “Matt” she repeated, tears falling down her face. “You're okay Vee, it's okay” he said, squeezing onto her hand.
Once they were outside the club he grabbed onto her shoulders. “Vee, look at me, you're okay. It’s gonna be okay” he said. She shook her head, “no! No it’s not!” she yelled, so filled with emotion. “Just come here, it's gonna be okay” he repeated before trying to pull her in for a hug. But she pushed him away.
“What are you even doing Matt? Go back to Rose!” she yelled, slurring her words just a little bit. “Vee, I’m here for you. I came here for you” he responded, careful not to raise his voice. “Leave me alone!” she yelled.
“I understand that you're not okay right now Violet, but I'm not leaving you alone. You're coming back to my house and I'm gonna take care of you. Everything will be okay” he said. “Leave!” she yelled.
He couldn’t stand seeing her in this state. It made him feel physically sick and useless. He wanted to do everything he could in his power to make sure she was okay. He hated her attempts to push him away, but he was stubborn.
She started to walk down the sidewalk as if she was going to walk home. But he knew she had no idea where she was going in the state she was in. And she wouldn’t make it far before he grabbed onto her arm.
He pulled her into his chest. She sobbed, hard. “Shh, i’m here” he said as he stroked her hair. The uber pulled up to the curb next to them. “We’re gonna go to my house, okay?” he said. She nodded her head, tears streaming down her face.
The uber ride to Matt’s house was short since he didn’t live too far away. He helped walk her inside. When they got into his room she sat on the edge of his bed. He kneeled in front of her, and carefully took her heels off.
Violet was out of it, crossfaded and a mess. “I’m sorry” was all she managed to say. He looked at her with a confused expression, “you didn’t do anything wrong” he said. “I’ll be right back” he said before disappearing out of the room.
He came back a few minutes later with a sandwich and bottle of water. She ate the food and drank the water, trying to regain her composure. After eating she laid down, “lay with me” she said. And so he did. She snuggled up into his chest. They laid there in silence for an hour until she was ready to talk.
Violet sat up and took a drink of her water. “It was my parents” she said as she set the water bottle back down. Matt let his back rest against his bed's headboard. “I didn’t even know they still had my number” she said.
Matt listened to her carefully. “2 years ago I found out my mom was cheating on my dad. I didn’t know what to do. So I ended up telling him, they got divorced. And I haven’t heard from either of them since. But tonight I got a text from my mom while we were at the club” she explained.
She showed Matt the text as she tried not to cry again. “I’m so sorry” he said, feeling an extreme amount of pain for her. “I should have changed my number along time ago” she said. “It’s not your fault Vee, you don't owe anyone an apology” he said.
They talked for a while, listening to whatever they each had on their minds. Violet talked more about her parents. Matt talked about his childhood. They continued to bond over the little things. It reached 4 am and they were still talking.
She stared at the ceiling. Her body still feeling the affects of the drugs. “I don’t know I guess my dream life sounds ridiculous when you say it out loud” she said. They had somehow got on the topic of goals and aspirations. Their dreams. Their desires. Secrets and things nobody else really knew.
“Well what is it? It can’t be that ridiculous” Matt said. Violet paused before answering. Nobody had ever taken the time to ask such things. Or cared enough to wonder about what went inside her mind. Her body got warm as she realized this was the most open she’d been with anyone in so, so, long.
“I know it sounds dumb but I want slowness. The pace of the life we live right now is so fast. I want quiet mornings filled with the sounds of birds chirping instead of cars honking and driving by” she said. Matt listened to her attentively.
“I don’t want the cameras and flashing lights or even an audience. I don’t want to perform. I just want to feel alive and human instead of just being seen as just another character on the big screens” she said. All her feelings poured out before she could stop them. And when she realized Matt was staring at her with an indecipherable expression on his face she suddenly felt exposed and small.
“Sorry, kinda started thinking out loud” she chuckled awkwardly. She avoided eye contact with him, feeling slightly embarrassed. After a moment she heard him finally speak. “I don’t think that sounds dumb at all” he said. She looked at him, “you don’t?” she said. “No, not at all” he responded. Their eyes were locked as there was a sudden shift in the energy.
Violet was the first to break eye contact. She yawned, “I appreciate you” she said. She tried to ignore whatever tension was present. “I appreciate you too” he returned.
Violet was starting to feel the need to sleep creep in and Matt could tell. “I have clothes for you to sleep in” Matt said.
He handed her sweatpants and an oversized t-shirt. She walked to his bathroom and changed, staring at herself in the mirror for a moment. She leaned over the sink and splashed water over her face before returning back to his room.
Matt changed into sleeping clothes while Violet was in his bathroom. He received a text message from Sienna asking about Violet. And so he responded and let her know Violet was safe. Matt ran a hand through his hair, tiredness catching up to him.
Violet laid down on the bed next to him. And It wasn’t long before he was back to holding her, brushing his hand through her hair. She could hear his heartbeat as she laid on his chest, she felt so comfortable and safe.
“Can I tell you something?” he said. Violet nodded her head. “You look really good in my clothes” he said. She smiled, “you look good in general” she responded. “Yeah?”. She giggled, “mhm” she hummed. He started to rub his hand up and down her back.
“Did I ruin your plans with Rose?” she asked, sounding more jealous than intended. “There were no plans with Rose, she was asking me if I knew anyone with shrooms” he said. “Mhmm” she said, clearly not believing him. “Ask her” he said, like he had nothing to hide.
“I mean Rose is really pretty, I can’t even blame you” she said. Matt knew what Violet was implying and shook his head. “She doesn’t mean anything to me” Matt said. And he meant it. “I don’t want her” he said. Violet shrugged her shoulders, acting like she was unphased. But deep down she remembered the pit in her stomach when she noticed Matt and Rose talking in the club.
“What about the dude that was all over you?” he said. “Oliver was one of the people I worked with last year. He’s just a friend” she said. “You let friends grab onto you like that?” he asked, a hint of possessiveness and jealousy in his voice. But Violet took his tone of voice as judgement.
She got quiet and he noticed immediately. “Hey, I was just joking Vee” he said. “I don’t know, I guess I just got too carried away in the club” she said, almost embarrassed. “It’s nothing to be ashamed of. There's nothing wrong with having fun” he said.
His hand continued to rub on her back as she stayed snuggled up on his chest. “I don’t want you to ever feel like I'm judging you” he said. She nodded her head. “You're so precious Vee, I don’t think you realize how much of an impact you have on people” he said.
She lifted her head off his chest to lock eyes with him. “What does that mean?” she asked. His eyes flickered between her lips and eyes. His hand slid down her back and slid underneath the oversized t shirt of his that she was wearing. His hand touched the bare skin of her back, ‘it just means you get into your head too much” he said.
Violet's body tensed at his hand rubbing up and down her bare skin. “Don’t do that, just relax” he said, noticing how stiff her body had gotten. She looked at his lips for a moment, so pretty looking, so soft. A small smile appeared on her face before letting her head rest back on his chest. His fingers rubbed lazy circles into her back, the touch soothing.
After awhile of both of them being quiet Violet broke the silence. “Thank you for everything” she said quietly. “You don’t have to thank me Vee, I’m here for you”. He continued to rub her back, it felt so natural to the both of them that neither of them blinked an eye.
“I don’t know why you’re so nice to me” she said. Matt lightly chucked, “this is the bare minimum” he said. Violet thought for a moment before responding. “Just feels nice, feels real” she spoke, her voice soft and quiet. His fingers that were drawing patterns on her back stopped moving the moment the words left her mouth.
She noticed his hesitation and immediately realized what she said sounded maybe a little too much. Too close to something foreign to him, remembering that he doesn’t do relationships or anything of that nature.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean it like that-” she started before wiggling her way out of his grip and turning to face the wall. “… I just meant you’re a really good friend” she said. He noticed the sudden energy shift, anxiety laid beneath his skin. “Vee” he said. “No, I’m being for real. You’re a really good friend” she said, trying to keep her voice monotone.
He grabbed onto her from behind, pulling her body into his. He spooned her, placing his hand on her stomach. “Stop overthinking Vee” he whispered. She didn’t know if it was the way he could read her so quick, the reassurance or the physical touch, but it made her stomach flip over and over.
Their bodies were pressed together, so close and so warm. Blurring the lines between comfort and an igniting fire that sank into her skin. She closed her eyes and let out a deep exhale as he lightly rubbed onto her stomach over the clothing she had on.
“Sleep” he said. She yawned despite trying to fight the tiredness. “Goodnight, Vee” he said, placing his hand on top of hers. She closed her eyes, as his fingers tangled into hers, their hands intertwined. “Goodnight” she spoke before fading into the most peaceful sleep she’d ever have.

previous part. masterlist.
A month had passed. A month filled with work meetings, annoyingly taking up most of her time. Today was one of those days that she felt a tremendous amount of stress. She was about to go on a podcast for an hour, get interviewed and hopefully try not to lose her composure.
This was her first time being on a podcast, nervous was an understatement. Violet’s manager and assistant had been trying to reassure her that everything would be okay for the past hour. For Violet so used to being in the public eye she was very anxious about being perceived.
“Just make sure you don’t say anything controversial, remember to have good posture, make the audience feel connected to you. Throw in some things that are relatable, if they mention your parents just deflect like you always do” Chelsea said. Violet’s anxiety was at an all time high.
“This is the biggest streamed podcast Violet, it’ll be available to listen to by hundreds of thousands of people, I need you to deliver” Chelsea said. Violet nodded her head as she got into the car. The anticipation was always the worst. Nobody from the outside would be able to tell how much pressure she had on her. From the outside looking in, Violet looked confident and content.
After finally getting through busy traffic and a long drive Violet and her manager arrived at the podcast studio. “Smile” Chelsea said, reminding Violet to put a mask on. Moments later Violet was greeted by her publicist who had been waiting for her arrival.
They walked into the studio, immediately being greeted by podcast host Andrew Rivers. He shook Violets hand “so nice to meet you” he said warmly. She smiled, “thank you for having me” she responded.
They sat down in the studio, Violet’s manager and publicist sat on the side a couple feet away, out of view of the camera. As well as Andrews production team. Small talk between Andrew and Violet occurred, giving some extra time before he pressed record.
“Hello ladies and gentlemen, today I have a special guest. Introducing the most recently talked about, hardworking woman, born and raised in LA, incredibly talented actor, Violet Monroe” Andrew said. “Aww thank you, it’s so nice to be here” Violet said with a big smile.
30 minutes into the interview Violet's nerves had finally calmed down. The conversations between Andrew and Violet flowed easily. She would look over at her manager and publicist every so often just to make sure they had a look of approval.
“So everybody’s wondering how you're managing this lifestyle at just 21 years old. What did your parents think about all of this? Surely their reactions were priceless when you told them about starring in the biggest show of this year” Andrew said.
Violet’s pulse quickened at the mention of her parents. She looked over at her manager and publicist. “Yeah- I think adjusting to this lifestyle has been a little tricky. Especially with how fast paced it tends to be. When the news came out that I was starring as the main character all of the people close to me were in just as much shock as I was. But overall I think I've adjusted pretty well” Violet said, her attempt to answer his question.
“You mentioned this lifestyle being fast paced, how do you keep up with it all? Is there any doubt that you’ll run out of stamina for this kind of lifestyle?” Andrew asked. The answer was complex, complicated and long. So instead of saying what she wanted, she responded with what he and thousands of people would want to hear.
A couple more questions later, lots of deflecting, and responses full of half truths, she was almost done with the interview. There was about 10 minutes left of the podcast and Violet was grateful for that.
“So really quickly, I must ask- is there anything special going on in your life? Perhaps someone special?” Andrew asked. Violet hesitated, a chuckle falling from her lips. “There are tons of special people in my life” she responded.
He gave her a knowing look, one that said you know what I meant. “Is there anything you could say about your love life for the people out there wondering? Your relationship status has always been a mystery that the public seems to be overly curious about” Andrew said.
“I think love is beautiful, being in the public eye has really made me cautious about getting involved with people in a romantic sense. I just feel like with people being able to do google searches about me, you know- with all the interviews i’ve already done, that some things should remain private” Violet said.
Andrew nodded his head, “yeah I totally agree and respect that. I feel like dating in the industry must be hard as it is. My last question that revolves around romantic relationships and dating, is what does love look like to you?” Andrew said.
Violet paused and took a moment to think. “I think love looks like many different things at once. It can show up in different areas of your life. It can look like waking up together, being there for someone with constant support, I think the small moments are definitely the most overlooked” Violet answered.
A few minutes later Violet was leaving the podcast studio. She didn’t want to overthink about how it went but of course she did. “You did good” her manager said as they got into the car. “I don’t know” Violet said. “I’m serious, you did really good” Chelsea reassured.
A couple hours went by of doing work related things before Violet was finally back at her own house. Her manager had gone home awhile ago which left Violet trying to come up with some things to do to keep herself distracted.
Cleaning her room kept her busy for awhile. After making her bed she finally laid down. Doing nothing felt odd, it left her searching for more things to do. Her phone rang, her friend Sienna’s caller ID staring back at her. She smiled.
“Yeah I can come over, who’s all gonna be there?” she asked. “Just Rose and Jess” Sienna responded. “Okay bet, i’ll be there soon” Violet said into the phone before hanging up. Her boredom was about to be cured, thanks to Sienna.
Sienna only invited Violet over once in a blue moon. It was rare that they actually got to hangout nowadays due to their booked and busy schedules. So she cherished the times they got to spend together, even if other people like Rose and Jess were around.
When Violet arrived she knocked on Sienna’s door. Excited and eager to catch up with Sienna. Seconds later Sienna’s door opened, “oh my god, I’ve missed you” Sienna said, pulling Violet in for a hug.
Violet continued to give each girl a hug despite not really knowing Jess and Rose. They all sat in Sienna’s living room painting on canvases and catching each other up on what they’ve been up to. “We should order some food” Rose suggested. “I agree” Jess said.
They ordered chinese food, sesame chicken and fried rice was at the door within an hour. “I’m glad you guys were able to come over today, I missed you all” Sienna said. A wave of gratitude hit Violet.
“Oh my god, where did you get that bracelet? It’s so pretty” Sienna asked Rose. Violet looked at the bracelet on Rose’s wrist. It was a beautiful piece of jewelry. Rose’s energy shifted just a little bit, becoming almost more shy.
Rose smiled, “it was from this guy that I was messing around with” she admitted. Jess’s mouth dropped “what the fuck? Are you secretly in a relationship that I didn’t know about?” Jess asked. All of us laughed, “no, it’s not like that” Rose said.
Violet took a bite of her rice, listening to the girls gossip over the mystery man who bought Rose the bracelet. “Just tell us who it is” Sienna said. Rose sighed, “okay fine. It’s this guy named Matt Sturniolo. It’s a long story but we were never in a relationship. Just casual sex. Or it was supposed to be just casual” Rose said.
Violet's ears perked up like a dog who just heard the word “treat”. Sienna and Violet made eye contact for the slightest second before looking back at Rose. “What do you mean casual? That bracelet on your wrist doesn’t exactly scream casual” Jess said.
“Well we originally agreed to be casual. But then we started hooking up so often that I forgot what casual meant. I caught feelings quickly which backfired” Rose explained. “So how did you get a bracelet out of him?” Jess asked.
Violet felt like she was learning information about Matt she shouldn’t know. She wanted to tune out Rose’s voice but she couldn’t get herself to. “He was just the type to do anything to please a woman. We went out together and stopped inside a jewelry store, window shopping essentially. But when he noticed I was practically gawking over the bracelet he bought it without looking at the price” Rose said.
Violet’s eyebrows raised, damn, she thought to herself. “And what happened? Did he find out you had feelings or something?” Sienna asked. Rose shook her head no. “No, he said that he had to cut me off because he was thinking of someone else too much. Which sounds harsh but I respected him for being honest” Rose said.
“Matt Sturniolo being serious about someone is literally unheard of” Sienna said before taking a bite of her food. “I know that’s why I feel dumb for thinking we could have been something more” Rose said. Jess sighed “what if he ghosted you because he caught feelings too and was just scared” she said.
Rose laughed, “don’t be delusional Jess. The entire time we hooked up we didn’t kiss once, not even a peck” she said. Violet listened carefully, even though she felt like listening to gossip about Matt was somehow wrong.
“He didn’t kiss you at all? How does that make sense? You guys had sex but no kissing?” Sienna said, clearly invested in the gossip. “He said he doesn’t kiss because it feels too intimate” Rose said. Jess’s jaw dropped, “no way” she said, completely mind boggled.
Violet took another bite of her food. “I’m not lying. I talked to another girl he slept with and she said the same thing” Rose said. “Wow” Sienna said. Rose shrugged her shoulders as if she was trying to act unphased.
“I guess it doesn’t take away the fact that he’s a gentleman. And also the fact that he’s very, very, good in bed. He loves pleasing women and I admire that about him” Rose said.
The girls continued to gossip more about the men they’d come across as Violet dissociated. She didn’t know why she felt weird about hearing Matt being with other women. It’s not like her and Matt were anything other than friends.
She had hungout with Matt a couple times this month. Each time at her house, each time better than the last. They were getting closer and she loved the idea of getting to know him on a deeper level.
To be honest she thought about him often. Always in her quietest moments, where there was no more distractions and just straight silence. When she wasn’t acting for an audience or partying like there was no tomorrow. Most of the time thinking of him happened right before she fell asleep.
She thought about how sincere he seemed. How genuine their friendship seemed. Within this past month of knowing eachother and hanging out she recognized a pattern. He brought out a side of Violet that not many people had seen before.
And that side was the calmest, most secure version of herself. She didn’t feel the need to impress him, perform for him, or put on a persona. And she liked that alot. His ability to make Violet feel like this made her gravitate towards him more.
And she chose not to let the information she just learned about him change the way she felt about him. But she did keep a mental note of how they approached relationships and connections were obviously different.
Violet and her friends finished eating their food and spent the rest of their time together listening to music and doing little arts and crafts. Rose and Jess ended up leaving which left Sienna and her alone for awhile.
They sat in Sienna’s living room watching some cheesy reality show. Violet was distracted by her phone, scrolling through social media before Sienna threw a pillow at Violets head. “Hey! What was that for?” Violet said, grabbing onto the pillow and laughing. Sienna shrugged her shoulders and laughed.
“I’ve missed you” Sienna said. Violet smiled, “I’ve missed you too” she said. There was a moment of silence between the two. Sienna stared at Violet with an unreadable face. “What?” Violet said. Sienna shrugged her shoulders.
“You got all quiet earlier when they mentioned Matt” Sienna said. Violet looked down at the ground, “yeah. Didn’t really have much to say” she told Sienna. Sienna smiled, “not much to say, huh?” she repeated Violet's words back to her. Violet squinted her eyes and titled her head a little before grabbing the pillow and throwing it back at Sienna.
Around 8 pm Violet was back at her house. She had taken a shower, laid down in bed and put on a show to watch. She debated on getting some late night snacks delivered to her house, something sweet and savory sounding good in the moment.
Just as she started scrolling through the options of snacks from the nearest store she received a phone call from none other than Matt. She smiled as she answered the phone. “Hey” she said into the phone. “Hey” he said back.
“What’s up?” she said. “Just seeing what you're up to” he responded. She shrugged her shoulders “I was just about to order some snacks” she said. “Hmmm” he hummed. “What?” she asked. “How about you come over and i’ll order us snacks” he offered. She smiled, “send me your address” she said.
35 minutes later she was standing in front of a big modern looking house. She walked up to the doorstep, for some reason a little nervous. She shoved the nerves down as she knocked on the door.
He opened the door with a smile, “come in” he said. She walked through the front door, looking around and admiring his space. She walked into his living room noticing the soft lighting, huge windows, giant rugs, books on shelves. The definition of quiet luxury was exactly what his house was.
They sat down on the couch, a couch cushion apart. “What kind of snacks do you like?” he asked. “I’m really okay with anything” she said. He ordered the snacks before placing his phone down on the coffee table.
“What have you been up to?” he asked. “Well, I went on a podcast for the first time today. I was so anxious but my manager said I did good” she said. “What about it made you anxious?” he asked. “Knowing that hundreds and thousands of people will be able to watch it” she said.
He looked at her with almost a confused expression on his face. “Doesn’t that contradict the fact that millions of people have watched you act in the biggest t.v. show of the year’ he said, with a playful smile.
Violet understood what he was trying to say. “I know it doesn’t make sense. I guess it’s just because I get to pretend to be someone else when acting. But with the podcast I had to show up as myself” Violet explained.
“Ahh, and what’s wrong with that?” he asked. There wasn’t a short enough answer for that. She took a minute to think but couldn’t find the right words so she shrugged her shoulders. “Your doubtful” he said, more like a question. “Kind of” she admitted. “Don’t be Vee” he said in a reassuring tone. She nodded her head.
Violet looked around the living room some more. “So besides the podcast, how was the rest of your day?” he asked. Violet looked at him, remembering the gossip she heard today specifically about him.
“I hungout with some friends, actually ended up hearing some gossip about someone I know. Now that I think about it I think you might actually know him” Violet said with a big smile. Matt’s eyebrows furrowed for a moment. “Oh really, does this peron’s name happen to be Matt Sturniolo?” he asked. Violet chuckled and nodded her head.
Matt let out an exhale and ran his hand through his hair. “What did you hear?” he asked curiously. “That you lead girls on, buy them jewelry, and then break their heart” Violet said in a joking manner. “Ahhh, I see” Matt said.
Violet stared at him, curious if he would deny the manwhore allegations or not. He shrugged his shoulders like the words she said didn’t phase him at all. Before she could say anything he stood up from the couch and walked into the kitchen.
He came back with two water bottles in his hand. He sat back down on the couch, this time right next to her, so close that if she moved even an inch they would be touching. He faced his body towards hers. “Is that all they said?” he asked before handing her a water bottle. She grabbed onto the water bottle, their hands brushing slightly.
The closeness made Violet oddly nervous. She couldn’t focus on anything other than the fact that he was so close. “They said more” she admitted. His eyebrows raised, “like what?” he asked. She smiled, “wouldn’t you like to know” she joked. He smiled.
After a moment she said “they said you think kissing is too intimate”. He nodded his head, “is that all?” he asked before suddenly grabbing Violet’s legs and pulling them over his lap. The action caught her off guard, her pulse beating so fast and hard she was sure he could hear it at this point.
He rubbed the lower half of her legs softly, the touch grounding while simultaneously igniting such an exhilarating feeling. “They said you're good in bed” she said, her voice quieter this time. Matt smiled, “yeah?” he said, their eyes locking. Violet nodded her head.
“Is it true?” she asked. “Which part, Vee?” he asked. “The part where you break girls' hearts, essentially use them for nothing but fun” Violet said. Matt looked away from her for a moment, breaking eye contact and taking a moment to think.
“I always let people know my intentions before anything ever actually happens” he finally said. Violet thought about it for a second. His hands continued to rub onto her legs softly, the touch becoming soothing more than anything.
“Do you have the same intentions with me?” she asked. His hands stopped moving for a moment, the question catching him off guard. “No” he said, in a tone she couldn’t quite decipher before continuing to rub on her legs. She didn’t push further and just let his words hang in the air.
While Violet loved his touch and found herself enjoying it a bit too much, Matt loved it just as much. The touches weren’t sexual, they were simple. It was just enough for Violet to get used to having hands on her and just enough for Matt to ease his need for physical contact.
Matt could tell she wasn’t used to touch, clearly touch deprived. He wanted to change that.
“My birthday is coming up” Violet stated. “Really? When?” he said. “Friday” she responded. “Is there anything you want for your birthday?” he asked. She shook her head no. “Come to my party” she said. “I’ll be there”.
They talked more about their days, upcoming events and even got into a debate about whether or not LA was better than the east coast. They switched topics, bouncing off each other's ideas and getting lost in conversation.
A knock on Matt’s door was heard, the snacks finally arriving. Matt got off the couch and came back with the bag of snacks. He handed her a plethora of options to choose from. She chose sour patch kids and chocolate covered pretzels.
They sat there together, talking and eating snacks throughout the late night. The time passed but neither of them noticed, too focused on one another. They laughed at eachothers dumb jokes, their energies together creating a balanced playful banter.
After a while their conversations died down, Violet became tired and quiet. She leaned more into the couch, letting her body lay down as she stared up at the ceiling. Matt didn’t mind the quietness, he enjoyed sitting in the silence with her. It was peaceful.
“Sorry i’m not talking, just getting tired” Violet said. “You're okay” he said. Violet thought she should probably get up. She should probably go home and go to bed. But deep down, she didn’t want to leave. Not from the couch she was on. Not from Matt’s house.
And Matt could tell she was fighting her sleep. “You can stay here if you want” he offered. Violet looked at him, “what?” she said. “You can stay here. But if you do i’m not letting you sleep on the couch. You can have my bed, I’ll sleep on the couch” he suggested.
“Are you sure?” she asked. He nodded his head. Violet followed behind Matt as he led her to his room. He opened his bedroom door, his room neat and organized. The energy in his room was cozy and comfortable.
She sat on his bed. “If you need anything just let me know i’ll be in the living room” he said before turning to walk out the door. “Wait” she said, causing him to stop in his tracks. He turned around, “yeah?” he said. “Can you stay in here?” she asked.
Matt wasn’t used to sleeping next to a girl that he wasn’t having sex with. But it didn’t matter because as Violet pulled the blanket over their two bodies he just wanted her to feel safe and comfortable.
Violet fell asleep first, leaving him awake with his own thoughts.
He was two seconds away from falling asleep before he felt movement on the bed. Seconds later Violet’s warm body was snuggled into his chest. He liked the physical contact way more than he’d ever admit. His arm wrapped around her before he absentmindedly drew lazy patterns into her skin.
He fell asleep listening to her breathing. Content. Calm.

previous part.

The Prada Event was today. Violet was already dreading it, wishing she could come up with some excuse to not go. But her manager was already at her house going over the event and itinerary.
She had to be at an outfit fitting in an hour which meant she had to leave her house now to be on time. She finished doing the last touches of her makeup while Chelsea explained how important this event was.
“You need to be on your best behavior tonight. No drinking and make sure to talk to as many people as you can tonight” Chelsea said. Violet sighed as she put her shoes on. “You hear me?” Chelsea asked. “Yes, I hear you” Violet said reluctantly.
They got into Chelsea's car and started the drive to her fitting. Prada events were talked about often. Known big in the fashion industry for their luxury goods. Every new event outdid their last, all the big known stars in attendance.
“I sent the outfit inspiration pictures to the stylist so there should be some good options” Chelsea said. Violet stared out the car window contemplating on what kind of persona she should put on tonight.
The truth is she was a performer. She performed for everyone whether it was intentional or not. So is it really a surprise she became an actor? No. But she did a lot more acting off screen. That’s what her life felt like sometimes. Just one big performance.
She tried not to think about it too much.
Chelsea turned down the music on the radio as they pulled into the parking lot. “Okay, are you ready? We’ll probably be here for awhile so if you need anything before we go in let me know” her manager said. “No, i’m good. Let’s get this over with” Violet said.
One hour later, 6 people in total helping determine what outfit was best, 4 people with cameras, and multiple outfit changes later, Violet was getting bored and frustrated. Each outfit she had tried on was either plain looking, too fancy or simply didn’t flatter her body.
“Okay let’s take a quick break” the main stylist said, noticing Violet’s patience thinning. Violet let out a deep breath and sat down in a chair next to Chelsea. “You okay?” Chelsea asked. Violet nodded her head. “Tired” she responded.
After a 15 minute break Violet and the styling team were back at it. Violet was on the verge of losing all hope. That was until she spotted the black, lacy dress in the stylist's hand. “Okay, try this on” Amber, the main stylist said with a warm smile.
Violet fell in love with the way the dress fit her body. She stared back at herself in the mirror, this was the one she thought to herself. The dress hugged perfectly against her body, flattering her silhouette.
The lace made it feel bold but classy, elegant and fierce all in one. The dress brought her to life. “Perfect” Amber said.
Chelsea and Violet left the fitting shortly after to run some last minute errands and get everything in place for tonight. After awhile they were back at Violets house getting ready for the Prada event.
“You look so good” Chelsea said with a big smile. Violet thanked her, “still wish I didn’t have to go” she said. She knew it wasn’t a choice but one could only hope. Around 7 pm Violet and Chelsea were in a chauffeur car on the way to the Prada event.
Violet wandered around the building aimlessly. She had talked to many, many, strangers by now, all of them with the social status higher than the one before. Live performances played in the building, soft ambient music playing.
Fashion editors, influencers, artists, filmmakers and anyone with a big name gathered in the VIP lounge to socialize. Chelsea and Violet walked around and conversated with other creatives. All essentially meaningless conversations.
“I’m gonna go talk to Lily real quick. I’ll be back, don’t do anything crazy” Chelsea said. Violet let a giggle fall from her lips. “I’m serious” Chelsea said more sternly. “I know, you don’t have to worry. I'll stay put” Violet responded. She watched Chelsea walk across the room and hug Lily.
Violet wasn’t good at standing still. And she also used Chelsea as a crutch most of the time. Despite her being a social butterfly she became anxious when left alone in crowds like these. She looked around the room, searching for any familiar face.
She was two seconds away from grabbing her phone out of her purse and making it seem like she was distracted before she heard her name being called. “Violet Monroe”, she turned around. And when she realized who was calling her name, she wished Chelsea was still next to her.
Marcus Torres stood in front of her with a smile that was too big. Her body tensed, this was awkward. Her eyes searched for Chelsea around the room, hoping that she was near by. But she couldn’t spot her anywhere. Violet swallowed, of course this would happen.
“Hey” she said awkwardly. “No need to act shy” he responded. She rolled her eyes, “do you need something?” she asked, clearly uninterested and unamused. “Woah, no need to catch an attitude. Just wanted to say hey” he said. She scoffed.
“How have you been?” he asked, as if he actually cared. “I’ve been doing good, not that it’s any of your business” she said. His smile deepened. “You look awfully stunning in that little dress tonight” he said, eyeing her up and down. Her body tensed even more.
“Tell me, are you still spreading your legs for anyone who gives you the slightest bit of attention?” he said, his tone cold and ruthless. Violet’s eyes widened as a mix of emotions hit her. “Have a good night Marcus” she said before quickly walking away.
She didn’t know she was headed, she just started walking. She hoped to get far away from him and lose him in the crowd. Her eyes stayed planted on the ground, her head down. She was filled with anger, shock, and disgust.
She wanted to cry from frustration. She wanted to ditch this entire thing and go back home. She slid between people, moving fast with precision. She needed to find Chelsea asap. Just as she was about to turn another corner her arm was grabbed and pulled the other direction.
Her head snapped to see who was dragging her, confused and caught off guard. “What the f-” she started but lost her words. Next thing you know she was being shoved into a bathroom. Away from the crowd, away from an audience.
“What the fuck?” she said, her voice raised. She blinked and Matt was standing in front of her with a big smile on his face. “Matt?” she said, shock and adrenaline rushing through her veins. He laughed, “Violet” he said before grabbing something from his pocket.
“What the h-” she started, ready to snap, but immediately stopped when he pulled a joint from his pocket and held it in the air. He locked the bathroom door. She smiled, her mood instantly changing. “Matt, put that away” she said reaching for his hand. He moved his hand quickly, raising the joint above their heads.
He dangled it in his fingers, out of her reach. “Matt” she whispered. He let out a chuckle as she stood on her tippy toes trying to reach the joint. “Matt, we can’t smoke in here. Are you crazy?” she said.
His hand fell to his side, the joint still in his fingers. “Who’s gonna stop us?” he asked in a playful tone. She stared up into his eyes, a moment of silence passing. “We’re at a prada event” she said. “Come on, you know you want to” he coaxed, holding the joint up in her face as if he was showing off a prized possession.
She looked at the joint and then back at him. She shook her head and smiled. “Fine”.
He grabbed the lighter from his pocket and sparked the joint. She knew this was risky. But she couldn’t pass up the offer. She watched as Matt brought the joint to his mouth and inhaled the smoke.
He passed the joint to her, their fingers slightly brushing. “Where were you going when I grabbed you? You looked like you were upset and on a mission” Matt said as he watched her take a hit of the joint.
She blew the smoke from her mouth, “I was trying to find my manager so we could leave” she said. She took another hit, the weed instantly calming her nerves. She shrugged her shoulders and shook her head, the interaction with Marcus that happened less than 5 minutes ago replaying in her head.
“Did something happen?” he asked curiously. She avoided eye contact with him, “I guess it was just a bunch of little things that piled up on top of each other" she confessed. He hit the joint twice before passing it back to her.
“Did it have anything to do with the man I saw talking to you?” he asked. She looked at him, “were you stalking me?” she said, a smile on her face. He smiled, “admiring you from a distance” he stated.
She hit the joint, the weed definitely hitting her by now. “No. I mean yes. I mean kind of” she said. She looked down at the ground. “I guess I was just dreading today, a bunch of small stuff kept happening. Like none of the outfits looked good at my fitting, my manager’s been on my ass about random shit, and then Marcus” she said.
“Marcus” he repeated. She nodded her head, “he was a guy I hooked up with last year” she said, staring down at her feet. Matt didn’t respond, instead he waited for her to elaborate. She blew out the smoke from her mouth, silently shaking her head.
“It was a one night stand, he got mad that I kicked him out after. He’s been bitter ever since” she explained. Matt exaggerated a gasp and look of disapproval, faking a dramatic disappointed reaction.
“Listen before you call me a slut and say that I should be ashamed I had my reasons for kicking him out” she said. He took the joint from her hands and hit it. “First of all, it was really bad sex. Like really bad. And then he had the nerve to talk about his upcoming golf tournament. No aftercare, just straight golf talk” she explained.
Matt chuckled and shook his head. Violet laughed with him, “i’m serious” she said as they both started having a laughing fit. The weed was good, made her more open up more, or maybe that’s just how she was in front of Matt.
“Sounds like a nightmare” he said once they stopped giggling like two little kids. She looked at him, “are you judging me?” she asked. “What? No. I would never” he responded. He handed the joint back to her. The overthinking started to kick in.
“I don’t want to be judged, he was the last person I ever had sex with. Judging me for something that happened over a year ago would be really fucked up and I really don’t-” she started to ramble but stopped when Matt stepped closer and grabbed onto her hand.
“Im not judging you Vee, kicking someone out whose mind goes straight to golf after sex is completely valid” he said, his fingers gently massaging over the backside of her hand. She tried to ignore the nickname and the way it made her stomach flip. The sudden closeness made Violet lose focus.
Her mind went blank as he stared into her eyes. “He should be grateful you even gave him time out of your day” he said, his voice softer, more quiet. Her eyes flicked from his eyes to lips unintentionally.
“What did he say to you out there?” Matt asked with his hand still holding onto hers. She wanted to lie. She wanted to. She didn’t want to repeat Marcus’s words. But she did. The unfiltered truth was so easy to come out with Matt.
“That’s what he said?” Matt said, his voice suddenly sharper. Violet nodded her head. Matt’s jaw clenched as he let go of Violet’s hand. Something heavy lingered behind his eyes. “It’s not a big deal though” Violet said.
Violet took one last hit of the joint before flushing what's left down the toilet. She looked back at Matt who was already staring at her. “What?” she said, noticing an energy shift. He didn’t respond, his eyes focused on the wall behind her as if he was in deep thought.
Violet wished she could read his mind at this moment. Wanting to know what’s got him quiet all the sudden. Was he undressing her with his eyes? Or more realistically was he silently judging her?
She suddenly felt exposed, like he could see through her. She wanted to shrink and disappear, if he was judging her she couldn’t handle it right now. Not with everything that already happened today, not with the weed in her system.
“Um- I’m sorry, I don’t know- I know that Marcus is a human just like us and there was probably a better way to handle that situation. I just- if your judging me I cant-” she was on the verge of rambling again before he took a step closer to her.
“I just- I don’t know- I’m sorry and-” she started but stopped again when he took another step closer to her. She looked up at him, his face still and unreadable. He stared down into Violet’s eyes, her beautiful, captivating eyes.
There was minimal space between them, so close she could feel the heat radiating off his body. “I- I- don’t-” she started trying to apologize before Matt suddenly grabbed her. He picked her up off the ground and set her body onto the bathroom counter.
She was caught completely off guard. He placed his hands by her sides, enclosing her into his space. “I’m not judging you Vee” he said quietly. Their eyes locked as he leaned slightly into her. “Your not?” she questioned. He shook his head no.
“Bad sex, no aftercare, golf talk. I’m not judging you” he reassured, as he moved a front piece of Violet's hair behind her hair. Matt’s actions made Violet’s pulse quicken. Her body felt like it was floating. “Promise?” she said quietly. “I promise Vee” he whispered, his eyes flicking down to her lips.
She smiled, a genuine smile. His hand reached for her jaw, caressing her cheek softly. He was in her inescapable trance. His finger moved on its own, brushing her bottom lip. Violets breath hitched, the action making her feel dizzy.
His eyes couldn’t choose whether to focus on her eyes or lips. Both features had already been stuck in his head since the night at her house. She tried to keep her composure, tried to remain calm and collected but she was struggling.
His touch did unspeakable things to her, given the fact that she hadn’t been touched by a man for a little over a year. Violet was in a daze, from the weed, the closeness, the touching. While Matt was also lost in her energy. Struggling to keep physical boundaries, wanting to reach inside her soul and carefully lose himself in her essence. The tension was suffocating, coated in thick honey and sweet as sugar.
Just as he was about to place his hand on Violet's waist there was a sudden knock at the door that made them both jump. She immediately got off the bathroom counter and looked at Matt with panic written all over her face. There was no way the bathroom didn’t smell of weed and if they got caught it would look incredibly bad on their part.
“Shhh” Matt whispered as they stood still. They carefully listened to the footsteps walking away from the door. They looked at each other and immediately starting giggling, relief washing over them. “We could have been totally fucked” Violet said, left over adrenaline still running through her veins.
They both laughed some more, still high, still careless. Violet cleared her throat, coming back down to earth. She reached into her purse and checked her phone. Her heart dropped as she realized Chelsea had been trying to get ahold of her all this time.
“Shit, I have to go” Violet said shoving her phone back into her purse. Matt’s face faltered for a second, like he didn’t want this moment to end. It was like he had forgotten they were at a big time fancy Prada event.
“I’ll see you later, okay?” she said. Matt nodded his head “yeah, okay” he said. She smiled before unlocking the bathroom door. Violet turned to look back at Matt, “come over tonight?” she said, more like a question. He smiled, “yeah, yeah I’ll see you tonight” he said. She smiled before walking out of the bathroom.
The night went on. Violet had been more social with the weed in her system and somehow managed to avoid Marcus the rest of the night. Matt was able to talk to lots of people tonight and Violet was too.
Not that either of them could focus on the conversations they were having. Violet was too distracted from getting lectured by Chelsea. While Matt was too focused on watching Violet from a distance, unbeknownst to her. And deep down they were both eager for this event to be over so they could hangout again.
Eventually the night came to an end. Chelsea and Violet took two separated chauffeur vehicles to their own homes. Violet took her heels off in the car, her feet hurting. She scrolled through her phone the entire way to her house.
After an hour and a half she had showered, got dressed in sweatpants and a tanktop and ate some leftover pasta she had from the other night. She sat in her living room half watching t.v. while scrolling through tiktok.
And then the knock on her door came. She smiled.
“Hey” Violet said, opening the door for him.
“Hey” Matt said with a smile as he stepped into her home.
Even though it was almost midnight, the night was just beginning.
