– That was a conversation she neither expected nor enjoyed having.
It has been done, though – Mr. Wright knows where she’s headed for the next two weeks, and Athena has successfully boarded the plane ( correct one, this time ) booked for her comfort. They weren’t lying, either – it’s luxurious, granted with extra leg room and fine dining she hadn’t even known could be served in an airplane. She is one of few in that department – all frequent flyers, she guesses, as they’d eyed her curiously upon entry as if unaccustomed to another passenger.
Comfortable as it may be, the flight is long – and Athena is desperate to stretch her legs outside of bathroom breaks. Suitcase in tow, she hurries to the exit with renewed energy in stiff limbs, now sadly accustomed to inactivity. ( Fantastic. She’ll have to fit in another run in her schedule, in addition to cramps. )
“Oh!” There’s a brunette headed in her direction – she’d been told well in advance that Gretchen would be unavailable to greet her, but the substitute? Athena means to say something else in greeting, but only ends up offering a baffled stare. This – this is a maid’s outfit, isn’t it? She’s never seen anything of that particular fashion worn unironically. ( This is a kingdom. What did she expect? )
A signature smile and a clear of her throat signifies the end of her stunned silence. “Hi! Alice, right?” She side-eyes a passersby, studying her garb – then looks upon her own, bright yellows in contrast to the other’s muted hues. “Um, silly question, am I– am I dressed inappropriately?”
Alice waited patiently for the foreign guest, more than pleased to carry out her mistress’ will. Elodie’s will was something she wanted to see; she smiled remembering that day she had learned she and her brother had met while she was sneaking out, even becoming friends in the process. The Queen’s will was the good of the nation, sincerely, like her mother before her.
There was nobody else Elodie was comfortable trusting; as far as the world was concerned, Briony’s legal defense was not here yet. She preyed for Briony’s well-being, knowing it was beyond her help now. Still, if there was any way she could help this attorney...
She smiled as the woman approached her, going as far as to bow to Athena, as humble as possible. “Ms. Cykes, correct?” Alice asked. “I am she, Ms. Attorney,” she responded, still smiling as she walked besides her. The rest of the populace didn’t react much to Alice: seeing people in such outfits wasn’t too uncommon in Nova, all the rich and nobles had servants who dressed the part. In fact, as they walked in the airport she and Athena would pass two other women dressed in such a way, one walking beside a clearly wealthy man. “Rest assured, you’re dressed just fine!” Alice assured, smiling. “Perhaps a tad bit out of place, but its not the 90s anymore- it won’t draw too many stares for you to not be wearing a dress,” Alice explained.
“El- Gretchen gives her regards she could not be here in-person. She is close to the Mistress, and is far more recognizable than I am,” she explained. They walked side-by-side, eventually reaching what would be taking them to her temporary home.
A limo.
“I’ll be driving, but I’ll leave the window to me down so you can ask any questions as necessary.”
