If you weren't the one collecting Lums during Origins, what do you think of them?
~
"Oh, they’re simply adorable, as most things in the Glade of Dreams are!”
The limbless replied in his usual, mindlessly happy way, then hesitated.
“They’re also very curious little critters. There’s apparently something- several somethings I didn’t know about them!” he admitted, his voice somewhat lacking his usual spark... “That their energy was transferrable, for one, and just how resilient the Lums can be. Why, they’re almost comparable to batteries! Small, living, winged batteries, capable of powering machinery. You’d never expect something like that from them. It’s all very interesting.”
"Oh, but one thing stands out most importantly of all!” The Magician laughed. Despite everything, it was a slightly forced sound. “I’ve learned that it’s apparently very difficult to get about a month’s worth of their dust out of your clothes! Who knew!”
so there’s a certain NPC from the original Rayman Raving Rabbids gmes that aged really well (or really poorly depending on how you look at it) lmao

Houdini’s opinion on Antitoons is very similar to his opinion on Mr. Dark: a little rude and nippy, but can be friendly if you treat them right. If one were to come into his cottage unannounced - before he has the opportunity to hide them - once he and Ales are friends post Origins, they’d find varying amounts of them scattered about. These Antitoons have picked up on Houdini’s mannerisms and are more obviously playful compared to the Antitoons that stay with Dark. He’s become used to their bites.
One Antitoon in particular has a very strong bond with both one of them, having been given to Houdini back during Dark’s taking of the Protoon. He was named “Shy” by the limbless sometime after for his naturally ‘sad’ eyes and tendency to hide. Shy may appear in threads, usually hiding under Houdini’s hat’s brim if he doesn’t know the other muse.
Observant muses may note that he has Houdini’s shoes and red eyes instead of blue or black. This is because he’s picked up on his magic/influence more over time, though he hasn’t completely lost Dark’s nightmare magic either.
this is also why he looks like an odd combination of both of them if he’s transformed into a Limbless but i don’t know if i’ll make that canon here yet lol

Man, this place was almost as crazy as back home! More constant danger, too, but the young cup’s finger gun kept Nightmares from being a problem at all. No, Combat magic wasn’t what he needed to learn- it was the ability to get home. Though, honestly, there’s a part of him that wants to stay a while.
Asking about who might be able to help him, he’s directed to where he can find someone else. A shrug, and directions followed. Maybe whoever this was could help him! A deep breath as he arrives, and Cuphead gives a knock on the door.
~
Though the man had lost a lot of his magic after Jano’s defeat and subsequent sealing, many local teensies were either unaware - his title as the Magician didn’t help clear up such matters - or were old enough to know that he’d been entrusted with Polokus’ Book of Knowledge back in the day. No one was exactly sure why, especially not with how easily Mr. Dark had stolen its’ contents.
Either way, it was exactly for this artifact that they’d send the young cup to the tophat-shaped cottage, a healthy-looking garden of pumpkins and other vegetables growing around it.
No goat, though.
As Cuphead knocked, he’d be answered rather quickly with a shouted "Just a minute!” from somewhere inside, light footsteps indicating that the stranger aside was speedwalking towards the door. It opened soon after to reveal a somewhat strange man. He had a body, hands, and feet like any regular humanoid, but no limbs! Stranger still was the shy little yellow and red eyes that watched him from just beneath the brim of the man’s hat...
“Aha! Hello there!” He exclaimed with a twirl of his wand and a smile on his face, “I don’t believe we’ve met! Why, I don’t think I’ve met anyone with an object for a head since I last visited Bandland! And you’re no instrument, are you?” The question was obviously rhetorical, him moving on with a small hop in place.
“Allow me to introduce myself! The name is Houdini, but I’m afraid ‘the Magician’ is what most remember me as these days!” Not waiting for an answer, he reached out with a floating hand and shook Cuphead’s. “Pleased to make your acquaintance!”

and yes, Shy IS available for interactions/asks!

"Oh, don’t be so dramatic, Ales!” There was laughter in Houdini’s voice, though it wasn’t clear if he was amused with the irony of what he’d just said or the way Ales’ comment almost sounded concerned. He hefted the bottle in question with a floating hand. "Why, it’ll only be a glass!”
The Antitoons, on the other hand, seemed to share Ales’ opinion, eyeing it with looks both dubious and curious. He easily lifted it out of the way of one that had leaped in an attempt to to grab it, turning to fill the cup in his other hand instead.
Shy seemed to be content just looking on, half tucked under the brim of Houdini’s hat.
“Not only that, but I’m quite sure I’ll be quite alright, what with you being here!”
Now that was an irony he definitely couldn’t miss. It almost felt like just yesterday that they’d talked up on that cliff face, the nightmare and the limbless both awkwardly dancing around conversation in their own two ways.
Now they were here, Ales sat at his kitchen table as Houdini casually proclaimed that his trust in him went far enough to include... that. He’d already watched him pass out before, after all, so why not!
...The Glade truly was a strange place...
mixed-up-multiverse:
Face probably would’ve argued with the response of something along the lines of ‘wanting to touch and feel warmth’, ‘the fact that hands and feet just may be useful for something and you never know it’, etc., but the last sentence spoken makes his eyes widen briefly.
Protoon? What was that? A dimension-thing? A weird cartoon? Or something else? He’d have to ask. Which, in fact, he was about to do.
“...What’s a Protoon?”
~
“Aha!”
The Magician snapped his fingers as if realizing something. In all his years of only being good friends with those who were privy to its existence, he’d forgotten that not quite everyone in the Glade of Dreams was aware of what the Protoon did, let alone what it was!
”Why, yes! You wouldn’t have happened to see it, would you? Especially not as guarded as the thing is.” Pulling his tophat off his head, the Magician produced his wand from inside. An Antitoon briefly clung to it before being dislodged with a simple shake. “It looks quite a lot like this!”
Replacing his hat, he held it up to the face on the wall. One hand was cupped around the wand’s orbed top for emphasis. It was textureless and pink, stored magic shining over its surface.
“Of course, it’s not nearly as plain. It crackles with energy to the point of seeming as if there’s lightning stored inside, and it’s much more powerful than anything I could store!” Bringing his wand closer, he gave it a twirl. “Powerful enough to, perhaps, turn you into something limbed! I’ve even gone through the process myself once, though not by my own will, mind you.”
The Magician grimaced. His foot began to tap lightly.
“It’s also at least slightly painful, and the process of getting used to having things like bones and legs to be trip over is quite bothersome in its own ways.” Not to mention that Face was likely going to have to be turned into a Teensie. "You’d have to be pr-etty sure if you want to go through something like that! Additionally, you’d need to find someone to stomach the cost of such a thing!”
The tapping stopped and he settled back down, pressing the orbed top of his wand to the side of his nose with a wry smile.
"Of course, I’m sure that would all be worth it if you truly do want to be limbed so badly! A comparatively cheap cost for something so significant!”
“I’ve said freaks before, back during Mr. Dark’s attack on the Glade, and I’m entirely willing to do so again!”
@faussemagie inquired:
“ I can fix anything! Trust me! “ (( maybe android au? :) ))

“I-I’m sure you cccc- can! And-d I appreciate your-rr enthusiasm, I re-eee-ally do-o!”
Houdini winced at the crunch of his voice. Though he didn’t physically feel off, the sound was… uncanny, to say the least. Even the usually cheerful limbless was struggling to be his normal self when he skipped and stalled like a broken record. Houdini flipped through books as he spoke just to keep himself busy, his foot lightly tapping the wooden floor.
“Bu-ut I’m afraid this is no reg- reg-reg-regular si-ickness!” He continued, “Why, it seeeeems to be more of a cu-curse of some kind-d, tho-ough I can’t imagine who’d-d-d cast such a thing-ing! Not without-t me noticing, a-anyway.” The thought that it had been cast as a collaborative effort by a group of young mischievous Teensies crossed his mind, but he chose not to voice it.
It was then that his mind caught up, and he stopped midway through opening up yet another book. Houdini’s smile had a hint of sheepishness to it as he looked back at Ales.
“Hm. I do-on’t suppose you’ve come here t-to offer some sort of magical-cal mystery cure-ure, have you?”
