“Yea I guess if one has to be on the earth then a roof is desirable,” he says with a laugh. “But yea totally shitty.” He longs for his home beneath the waves but that’s just not an option right now. “I’m Porter.”

“What’s wrong with the rooms?” Isla spoke softly, her words lingering in the air. “They have beds, there is a roof, what more could you ask for?” Confusion was evident across her face, an eyebrow arched to accent the question.
Porter sighs and turns to face whoever’s talking to him. “You’re right, at least there are beds in this one,” he says. He should’ve thought about that. It could always be worse... it had been worse. “I’m just in a bit of a mood today,” he says. “I complain too much when i’m annoyed.”
“Are these really the rooms they want us to stay in?” porter asks as he peers into one of the rooms down the hallway. He’s not a snob by any means, but he finds that the placements keep getting worse.
"I find it hilarious that I'm supposed to be gorgeous and wes is supposed to be ugly. He's not ugly. He's just an idiot."
"None of you go trying that seven tear bull shit it won't work. I only appear to people I want to appear to.”
“Please tell me none of you lot are hopelessly in love with me?"

“Eh, is not so bad,” Dante replies, forcing himself back into perspective. “No one asks anything of me, here. Is not like hell, though it is colder up here. Is not so bad,” he repeats, shrugging. He tries not to notice the other on the floor next to him, instead staring at his hands.
“Hell huh? that sounds interesting,” Porters says, and he means it. He’s been to places in the ocean that felt like hell to him. But something tells him that those places would pale in comparison to the real deal. He says as much.

Kel laughs- the first real one in a while, truly, but they do not voice that to this stranger. “We can only hope that is the case. Wouldn’t want to be stuck rooming with some… weirdo.” They flounder a bit on the last word, their smile a little silly in it’s intensity. But in their defense, it’s a funny topic. “So. Never heard of ‘em?”
Wes grins when they smile at his dumb joke. He’s not particularly funny so it’s nice. “I can’t say that I’ve ever heard of them no. I don’t think I could forget a name like that. Gotta be damn hard to spell.”

A sigh, a sign of defeat or annoyance perhaps, but he has not walked away from them just yet. That is good- if they make friends, they could maybe change things someday. But not yet. Not yet. They are nowhere near ready for something like that. “Give them some time to make the return. It’s only the first day, after all.” Pretend to give them the benefit of the doubt. Read between the lines. “Nice to meet you as well. Have you eaten?”
“Umm, I can’t say that I have,” he mumbles. “I was so worked up earlier I didn’t eat the piss poor excuse for food they offered on the boat. I gave it to my friend Wes.

“I am having… a day, I think. I do not know anything today. It is - not good for me, and I am taking it out on you. I am sorry,” Dante corrects his own behavior, scrubbing a hand over his face before sitting directly down on the floor. It’s so cold on earth; he never thought he would miss the warmth of his home realm. To him, the conversation is over, if only because he is not typically spoken to for long.
“You don’t have anything to be sorry about, honestly, no worries man. I’m sorry you’re having a rough day though.” Porter smiles and sits down beside him hoping to maybe cheer him up. Someone ought to be happy in this damn place, it might as well be his new friend here.

“This all very well and good, and at another time I would be willing to show you around, but I do believe I already made it clear that I have somewhere to be. If you could move out of my way, please.”
“Oh yea. My bad. I get scatter brained when I’m like this,” he says as he steps out of the way. “I hope you get where ever you need to be soon.”

“I’m going to take this as whatever water creature you are, and having nothing to do with me. I hate this place. I never know what is happening and what is not, and I am very tired of being confused,” Dante let out a little of his pent up confusion and frustration; despite having only been human for less than a week, he’s had plenty of both. The sea creature (whomever they may be) seems angry, and it helps Dante to let off steam, as much as he hates how scared doing so makes him feel.
“Yea it’s not anything to do with you don’t worry. I realize talking about missing skin probably freaks people out. But I couldn’t stop the words from just pouring out of my mouth. It’s a problem I’m working on,” he says. “You okay there?” he asks when he notices the look on his face. “You seem a little tense.”

“It’s a relief to know I’m not the only one confused here.”
“Yea it sort of helps me feel better as well,” he says and offers them a small smile. “Is this your first placement?”

There is a scowl on Kelan’s face as they read over the sheet of paper in their hand. When they look up, it is to search for the gaze of the nearest person. Anyone to complain at. “Ya know, I’ve never had to deal with a roommate before. Obsidian Barclay… What kinda name is that?”
“A weird ass name is what kinda name that is,” Wes says with a laugh. “But maybe their names the weirdest part about them.” He smiles at the person standing in his way and does his best to put on his friendliest expression. He’s not so good with those.

Kel rolls their shoulders, a motion that moves their wings as well. “When do they not like to mess with us?” Slowly, they curl their wings around themselves just a bit. Enough to expose the holes where plucked feathers should have gone, the skin beneath still delicate pink mottled with angry red. “I’d offer my assistance, but I’m not sure what exactly we’d get out of that. They’ll return your skin soon enough I’m sure.” And they don’t really believe the words, not truly. But they say them all the same. “Kelan. Call me Kel, if you’d like.”
Porter really looks at them when they speak this time and it’s obvious that they are having a bad time as well. And they weren’t complaining about it like he was. He sighs and nods his head, “I’m sure you’re right. It’s probably best to just leave things be and keep my head down at this point. They have a way of knowing things anyway. It’s nice to meet you Kel.”

Jericho looked down at the floor for longer than was strictly necessary before looking at the being obstructing the path she was meant to walk. “Excuse you. I do believe you’re in my way. It’d be wonderful if you could not do that.”
“Oh sorry. I can’t say that I even noticed you standing there. I hate coming to new places, you think they’d make all of them the same but noooo. Every time I have to move it takes me a damn month or longer to find my way around.”

Joss is straight up shocked to hear his name come out of the other’s mouth, but tries not to let it show. Fails miserably most likely, since he has to clamp his own mouth shut before he can form a proper reply. “Oh. Uh. That. That’s me. That’s me. I’m Josiah.” He’s stumbling over his words, making a fool of myself. “Uh. Sorry.”
“Well that was easier than I expected it to be,” Wes says with a grin. “I thought I’d have to march all over this stupid place looking for you.” His grin only gets wider as he takes his roommate in. “No need to be sorry, you’ve done me a huge favor just by being in the right place at the right time.”

“Took your skin? I do not know what this means,” Dante’s brow is furrowed; he feels as if he’s going to spend a lot of his time as a human in some state of confusion.
“Yea my skin. I need it to be able to get back in the water. Well I guess I could just jump in like this but that wouldn’t be very smart now would it?” He groans. “The water is sub zero and I don’t have my skin. I’m going to lose my mind.” He knows he’s probably only making things worse for whoever he’s just met but he can’t help himself. He’s freaking out. He’s never been one to leave his skin somewhere. He’s always kept it in a bag on his person and now look where he is. Freaked out and skinless.
