casey mcquiston’s books are so important to the queer community. i knew this in a vague way but now i’m reading “i kissed shara wheeler” and the term “hey mamas” is used in a way that shows casey KNOWS her audience will know what she means. she knows the people she wrote this book for know what a “hey mamas” lesbian is. and it just made me a little emotional to read that in a published book. she has a way of bringing her readers together and addressing them as if it’s a close friend group with an inside joke. she knows how to make us feel known.
