Inktober Day 27: creepy

Humans keep the darndest things.

Lately I’ve been captivated by ojo de dios (god’s eye) handmade mandalas. An indigenous craft with origins tracing to both the Pueblo and Huichol peoples, the ojo de dios is a spiritual eye that has the power to see and understand what we cannot see with the physical eye. For the Pueblo people, the ojo was made in solitude with deep contemplation and meditation, and was gifted as a blessing of a new home.

A traditional god’s eye is made in bright, celebratory colors but I’ve tried my hand at weaving my own in calming palettes, with mostly neutral, muted tones. So far I’ve made a few for our home, but I’ve already run out of space for how quickly I’ve been making them so I added two of them to the shop today.
