Complex Loop Sculpture That Combines The Past And The Future

Artist Chris Fox is the artist who has created “Interloop” a monumental sculpture that is hanging from Sydney Wynyard Station ceiling, a modern twist played on an ancient escalator.

The wooden escalator had been in use for eight decades now and just when it was time for it to retire, Fox has given it a new life in the form of Interloop. The sculpture loops together two pairs of reconfigured escalators that are more than 50 metres long where the artist has incorporated 244 wooden treads and four combs from the station's original wooden escalators. Being from Sydney himself, Chris Fox, through his this piece, has found a way to connect the journeys made in the past to the ones that needs to be made in this historic station. Fox also explains that Interloop is intended to permanently reflect the motion of the escalators and to communicate to the that passengers that they should remain stationary while riding them.

Exotic Origami Cranes by Cristian Marianciuc

Cristian Marianciuc transforms mere pieces of paper into extraordinary sculptures and in his 1000 days of challenge, he flaunts his craftsmanship by composing paper cranes.

And they are vibrant in color and diverse in their beauty, each creation complete with its own characteristics. The artist draws parallel to the delicacy of the cranes with the use of the delicate paper, using the perfect material for his artworks. While origami is an ancient Japanese art form, this paper craft enthusiast puts forward his own contemporary twist.

Marianciuc showed his dedication, passion, and enthusiasm for this 1000 day challenge where each day he pushes his origami skills a bit further, incorporating complex folds and intricate details in his dainty cranes. But this is not the first time he has done it. Followers of his work know that this paper artist has engaged in a daily display of his skills previously; we have seen him conjure something new and exciting for his 365 day a challenge. His decorative origami works are all inspired by his everyday encounters where often the cranes are adorned with feathers, leaves, beads and many other elements.

Imperfectly Perfect Vases Made of Glass and Wood

Scott Slagerman and Jim Fishman came together to create a series of contemporary artistic vases that shows the symbiotic relationship between two materials, wood and glass that have opposing nature.

Delicate, fragile and colorful, the molten glass is hand blown in Scott Slagerman’s studio nestled in LA to fit snugly into the hollow of the wooden vessel. And for these bespoke sculptures, the dainty glass are not geometric or edgy; they are instead seen to be taken up fluidity and the eccentric shape of the wooden blocks, an unconventional tribute to imperfectly perfect beauty hidden in these inanimate objects.

The result is a stunning series of sculptures that look as if the wood and the glass pieces have been interwoven together naturally. The glass vases feel like the missing puzzle pieces that find their way to make their wooden enclosures complete.

Doors At The End of The Street: A Photography Series by Zacharie Gaudrillot-Roy

French artist Zacharie Gaudrillot-Roy has been busy composing pieces for his photography series called Facades where he explores a world of opportunities just a door away, literally.

Front doors are the first things we come across when we visit a house; they are some kind of portals that lead us into other people’s worlds. And Gaudrillot-Roy has tried to tap into this very concept for his series.

He first shoots the images of building exteriors and then isolates them, placing them in lonely streets that are illuminated with lamps. It is perhaps the unconventional manner in which the artist approaches the subject that intrigues us; we are used to seeing doors attached to entire structures of small homes, boutiques and stately mansions but not separated from them. This in fact also peaks our curiosity; we wonder where the facade of the door and the wall portrayed might have belonged to, what secrets does it hold, questions whose answers lie with Gaudrillot-Roy himself.

Surrealistic Journey That Explores Budapest Buildings

Zsolt Hlinka stitches mirror images of architectural structures digitally to form striking photos that depict the beauty of symmetry.

The artist from Budapest is an illusionist; his seamless juxtaposition will make you feel as if he has captured the intersecting buildings of his city against monochromatic backgrounds, being present with his camera at the right moment in the right time. And the result is a breathtaking series, aptly titled as Corner Symmetry. It highlights a compelling tale where lines, colors, angles and corners all come into play in one synergic composition.

While many of his fans might actually stroll on the streets to look for the buildings, Hlinka prevents them of the heartbreak by admitting that though these are real architectural forms, they are stripped off from their their usual environments; the images have then been split in half and mirrored in the center of these surreal compositions. The artist feels that he adds on to the dynamic and lively aspect of these digital collages, meticulously crafted by Hlinka.

Tokyo’s Vibrant & Raw Nightlife Caught On Camera by Yoshito Hasaka gives

Photographer Yoshito Hasaka gives us a glimpse of Tokyo’s nightlife, full of color and vigor.

He plays around with his lens, adjusting his camera’s sharpness and contrast to depict Japan’s capital and its nightlife. Neon signs, night sky dominated with skyscrapers, narrow alleys, busy streets filled with people, Hasaka’s photographs manage to capture them all. However, there is a surreal quality to his photographs that make this cliched image of Tokyo not so cliched at all. He makes his viewers feel the energy of the Tokyo scene, incorporating effervescence in all of his pieces as if it is palpable. And nothing in Hasa’s photos scream minimalistic; they are loud, flashy, clustered and over the top. Just like the city of Tokyo itself.  

Yoshito Hasaka is not only a Japanese designer but also an engineer based in Tokyo. Now he is designing everything in a startup company called Origami when he is not outside exploring the world through his lens.

New Ornate Mandala Designs by Asmahan A. Mosleh

UK based artist Asmahan A. Mosleh’s deep found love for elaborate mandala designs is evident in all of her compositions, seeking inspiration from temples, mosques and exotic architecture from all across the globe.

The artist meticulously formulates each one of them, spending somewhere between eight to fifty-four hours to perfect the psychedelic motif, immersing herself completely in it. Her vibrant artworks comprise of circular patterns and paisleys, embellished with magnificent rhinestones and gold leaf. The density and complexity of the design catch our eyes, evoking a sense of spirituality and effervescence in us.

Bookworm’s Paradise: Library in China Houses 1.2 Million Books In Its Majestic Curve Walls Nestled in the Binhai Cultural District, China, the Tianjin Binhai Library is an answered prayer, a dream come true for every book lover sprawled all across the globe.

It is a five-story, 34,200-square-meter glass structure that will have people’s head turning with its architectural beauty. Its terraced, curved walls, covering the entire interior, act as the shelves to hold more than one million books. And at its heart lies “The Eye”, a large spherical auditorium, where you can get lost in the fictional world for hours with a book in hand. While the award winning Dutch firm MVRDV is synonymous  with creative projects like the Jenga towers in Vienna, the breathtaking Sky garden in Seoul, for this library, they have collaborated with Tianjin Urban Planning and Design Institute (TUPDI) to push our imagination even further. You know the old saying that a picture is worth a thousand words? Nostalgic Memories Captured In Glass Jars With Double Exposure Photography by Christoffer Relander  Photographer Christoffer Relander helps to escape the realms of reality through his series of double exposure compositions where idyllic landscapes are trapped in glass jars.

It is as if the artist is trying to keep these memories from his childhood preserved with the help of the exquisite and surreal photographs that he aptly calls Jarred & Displaced. This Finland based photographer and his poetic, miniature creations fill us with daydreams as we too relive the memories of the places where we have spent countless idle days just immersed in Mother Nature. He immortalizes the beauty of fathomless landscapes with the help of his lens only to juxtapose them in ethereal glass jars, a true reflection of the exquisite beauty of his ever-changing surroundings. However, these have been the latest addition to his ongoing project, delicately confined in jars that resemble time capsules. While last year’s photographs were all done in classic black and white, this year Relander injects some color to his world.

Embroidered Vintage Photos That Give Them 3D Effect

Textile artist from Mexico, Victoria Villasana’s photographic series brings in new dimensions to vintage portraits as they are etched with colorful threads.

She adds vibrant colors to the otherwise black and white photographs of iconic figures like Madonna, Queen Elizabeth, Frida Kahlo, Prince and many more, thus evoking a sense of fun and whimsy. Most of these vintage portraits depict the subjects in rather sombre manner but the embroidered lines placed on eyelashes, on their clothes and as their fashion accessories steals the serious aura and introduces us to contemporary, three dimensional art.

Victoria Villasanana is an artist and an individual who is fascinated by cultures, societal norms and the human spirit; as stated in her website, she loves looking at how people relate to each other in a fragmented, post-digital world and this quirky series is perhaps her own personal tribute to strong believers of feminism. A theme well suited to appease her rebellious, feminist, street artist persona.

Giant 7 Foot Tall Sculpture That Looks Like Groot

Artist Garret Kane combines elements of nature with modern age technology in an effort to construct a 7-foot sculpture called Golemecha.

Made from branches, roots, plastic, welded metal rods, wire mesh, plaster wrap, 3D printed parts, Golem is a character from the Judaic folklore, who is known to be a protector. And its counterpart in Japanese culture is Mech, the protector made from advanced robotics, as Kane explains on his website. And his this sculpture, just like its name, is an amalgamation of both these cultures, a piece created to fit the modern world where both nature and technology needs protection.

His figurative sculpture, at first glance, seems to be composed of fractured elements, put together using bits and pieces of leaves, twigs and plastic parts. But if we take a look at it as a whole, we would notice the sheer strength of the posture of the male body; with its head held high and shoulders kept straight, its arms placed as if its ready to demolish anyone and anything that comes in the way, Golemecha does look like the part it was supposed to fulfill. Perhaps Kane intentionally leaves the fractured parts to evoke a false sense of vulnerability.

19th Century Church Renovated With 21st Century Technology

Moment Factory, multimedia studio based in Canada, has transformed  Montreal's Notre-Dame Basilica Church into an immersive installation, complete with sound, lighting, and projections that will teleport the visitors into a whole new world.

Termed as AURA, the multimedia installation is known to have paid homage to the church's wondrous art and architecture that is wrapped up into an elaborate 45 minute show. While visitors of the Church already feel plethora of emotions and energy as they enter the premise, this installation is meant to amplify those feelings, as if they have entered a sacred wonderland. Not everyone is enthusiastic to explore Gothic architecture from the 19th century but the experts behind AURA allows them to view this landmark in a new light, literally. All the sensory elements come together beautifully to enhance the historic beauty of the church’s interior.

21 projectors, 140 lights, 20 mirrors and an original piece by  used for the lighting and projections Marc Bell and Gabriel Thibaudeau are part of the experience and you can catch a glimpse of the show in the video here.
