5 Reasons why I love Social Dancing
It's only been 2 years since I’ve joined a dance school and it’s been an amazing journey of self-discovery. It has become a love and a passion of mine. There’s this side of me which I never knew I had. And I never knew having so much growth would have such an effect on me. Here are 5 reasons why I love Social Dancing.
Being a Dance Leader - Yes women can learn to be leaders, however what makes a man an attractive man, is a man who can lead and they can discover this through dance. It’s all about listening to the beat; the musicality; the connection with your dance partner and leading with the self-expression of movement through music.
Getting in touch with your sensuality - There is no substitute for human interaction! The touching, the chemistry, the communication and finally connecting with your partner's body is what makes social dancing a sensual experience. For those of you who are shy and introverted, it’s ok, enjoy the process, have fun and say au revoir to your inhibitions!
Different Genres of Social Dancing - Bachata, Salsa and Brazilian Zouk; my favourite! Honourable mentions are Forró, Kizomba and Merengue which are all just as fun!
Great for Body, Mind and Soul - Dancing has mental health benefits; for self-esteem, well-being and muscle memory. Keeping your body fit is also an added benefit so no need to go on a boring treadmill in the gym. Learn to be dashing as a man and sassy if you’re a woman and embrace that latin spirit!
Social Dancing - Why not just go clubbing? No hierarchy, no egos and no need for “Dutch courage”, that’s why I love social dancing over clubbing. Just down to earth, like minded people who love dancing and connection. After a busy and stressful day at work; switch off and let your hair down. Let the beat of the music move you, and let dancing be your therapy and escapism.
On a final note, I believe those who embrace dancing as part of their lifestyle also embrace a culture on how they express themselves. To me, dancing is more than just a hobby or an interest. Dancing is more than just growth, development and having a social circle, to me dancing is a celebration of life. And another thing; in regards to social distancing, this will pass. Let’s all stay optimistic and let’s all hope for a better future.
