they  hadn’t  spoken  since  the  END  of  the  summer  ,  remus  was  keeping  his  distance  .  how  was  he  supposed  to  explain  to  his  best  friends  that  he  was  sleeping  with  antonin  dolohov  ??  they  both  didn’t  want  this  to  get  out  .  remus  wasn’t  sure  if  he  could  come  back  from  this  if  it  got  out  .  despite  not  speaking  since  the  end  of  summer  ,  there  was  some  lingering  eye  contact  here  and  there  .  remus  didn’t  know  where  antonin’s  head  was  at  ,  if  he  would  tell  anyone  -  he  assumes  not  but  lately  he’s  been  getting  nervous  every  time  he  finds  antonin  looking  at  him  .  ❝  dude  ,  you’re  not  gonna  blabber  are  you  ??  cause  you  keep  looking  over  and  it’s  making  me  anxious  ,  ant  .  have  you  told  anyone  ??  ❞  remus  told  him  ,  they  were  in  a  private  area  -  he’d  given  him  a  look  -  one  he  used  to  give  him  when  he  wanted  to  meet  .

        it  was  silly   ━━  the  grin  that  crossed  their  face,  but  it  was  there.  “  i’m  your  favorite  today  ?  i’m  touched  moonpie,  ”  they  joked,  slinging  their  arm  around  remus’s  hips  to  draw  him  in  for  a  one  armed  hug.  “  i’ve  gotten … a  good  bit  of  cups  now,  ”  peter  confessed,  having  lost  count  after  filling  it  up  for  the  fourth  time.  they  normally  would’ve  stopped  a  couple  of  cups  ago,  but  they  weren’t  willing  to  let  the  buzz  go  just  yet.  not  with  as  many  people  were  around,  it  was  easier  to  ignore  their  anxieties  that  way.  “  what  did  you  do  on  holiday,  remus  ?  i  hope  it  was  something  fun.  ”

the  truth  was  peter  might  be  his  favorite  on  other  days  ,  not  just  today  -  more  than  all  the  days  added  up  .  if  anyone  else  called  him  ,  moonpie  it’d  be  the  last  they’d  hear  of  it  .  ❝  a  good  bit  ??  fucks  sake  ,  pete  .  you  can’t  even  keep  count  ,  ❞  remus  was  teasing  them  ,  he  tried  to  push  down  the  slight  worry  building  up  because  he  too  wanted  to  have  fun  .  but  if  someone  needed  to  keep  their  eye  on  pete  ,  then  he’d  silently  volunteer  .  ❝  em  ,  i  did  do  something  fun  ,  ❞  more  like  someone  fun  ,  but  he  failed  to  mention  that  for  other  reasons  .  ❝  i  missed  ya  .  ❞  remus  mumbled  through  the  sound  of  the  music  and  people  chattering  ,  he  really  did  miss  them  -  he  missed  them  all  .  he’s  not  sure  if  peter  could  hear  through  the  noise  of  everything  ,  if  they  didn’t  that  was  fine  .

        gwen  sent  remus  a  look,  smooth  eyebrow  raised  as her  head  tilted  back  to  be  able  to  see  him  fully.  “  you  four  really  think  you’re  sneaky,  huh  ?  you  can’t  fool  me,  ”  she  answered,  half  jesting  but  also  serious.  she  would  hardly  be  surprised  if  the  next  thing  the  school  knew  was  that  they  were  all  in  a  polyamorous  relationship.  “  don’t  try  to  deny  them  now,  i’m  sure  they’re  around  and  i  just  haven’t  noticed.  lots  of  people  in  here  after  all.  ”  gwen  picked  up  another  cup,  offering  it  to  him  while  she  took  a  sip  of  her own.  “  though,  as  many  people  that  have  their  tech  out  i  wouldn’t  recommend  it.  you’ll  be  plastered  all  over  avis  and  it’s  far  too  early  to  be  viral  already.   ”

there  was  something  remus  found  extremely  humorous  in  gwen’s  theory  about  the  four  of  them  .  they  were  remus  first  friends  -  the  fact  that  none  of  them  were  heterosexual  had  generated  some  rumors  of  their  own  .  it  felt  silly  hearing  them  and  knowing  the  truth  .  remus  loved  his  friends  .  ❝  well  ,  i  haven’t  seen  them  .  they  better  not  be  fooling  around  without  me  ,  i  told  them  after  last  time  ,  oh  i  mean  .  .  .  ❞  remus  joked  ,  merely  entertaining  gwen’s  theory  because  it  was  nice  to  play  along  and  tease  her  while  knowing  the  truth  .  ❝  do  you  know  a  lot  about  going  viral  ,  gwen  ??  ❞  remus  asked  her  ,  bringing  his  drink  back  up  to  his  lips  and  glancing  around  the  room  for  his  boyfriends  .

 ❝  i  mean  ,  it’s  not  exactly  top  shelf  booze  they’ve  brought  out  ,  but  i’ve  got  a  quality  firewhiskey  if  you  want  a  sip.  ❞  hearing  the  beer  tap  and  then  sputtering  behind  her  ,  helena  figured  whoever  it  was  had  made  the  mistake  of  trying  bad  quality  beer  on  a  sober  stomach.  while  regularly  she  was  not  the  sharing  type  ,  she  was  slightly  drunk  already  ⸻  and  drunk  helena  was  much  more  generous  with  the  sharing  of  her  liquor  than  sober  helena.

his  dad  drunk  often  when  he  was  younger  ,  his  mom  rarely  did  but  she  what  she  did  do  was  smoke  .  remus  would  say  that  he  inherited  BOTH  of  his  parents  filthy  habits  .  ❝  damn  .  yeah  ,  pass  it  here  ,  avery  .  ❞  remus  wasn’t  picky  about  what  he  drank  ,  he  had  his  favorites  but  he’d  also  drink  beer  from  the  tap  .  parties  weren’t  usually  his  scene  ,  he  just  didn’t  see  the  appeal  of  them  but  alcohol  helped  .

their thumb rubbed absently over the red and gold badge in their hand, finding the ridges and now warm metal of it comforting. while they’d had the badge last year as well, it felt a little heavier than previously and part of them wondered if it had anything to do with the brewing war on the horizon. hogwarts is safe; it’s meant to be their home. the familiar voice of remus causes lily to look up from the pin and give him a friendly smile. “remus.” his name falls around them like a comfort, something so familiar and just right. “congratulations.” there’s a soft laugh as he said he knew it would be them and there is a nod of agreement from the other. “you and me, until the end.” 

honestly  remus  never  planned  on  being  a  prefect  ,  it  felt  strange  .  he  had  this  act  ,  he  put  on  where  he  didn’t  care  that  much  about  school  things  like  clubs  or  being  in  a  position  of  power  -  somewhat  .  he  pretended  he  didn’t  care  that  much  ,  but  it  was  nice  ,  that  he’d  been  chosen  .  it  was  pretty  cool  ,  though  ,  he’d  act  like  this  whole  prefect  thing  was  not  that  big  of  a  deal  .  ❝  oh  ,  well  ,  thank  you  .  congrats  to  you  ,  another  year  as  a  prefect  .  do  i  sense  a  streak  ,  evans  ??  ❞  remus  replied  to  them  ,  he  wondered  how  different  this  year  would  be  with  him  and  lily  as  prefects  .

remus  had  joined  a  few  clubs  this  year  ,  it  seemed  like  the  right  thing  to  do  he  was  a  prefect  so  he  wanted  to  get  to  know  people  just  in  case  .  charms  club  .  lily  was  in  charm  club  ,  why  not  join  ??  but  he  underestimated  that  slytherins  would  be  in  the  club  .  he  didn’t  care  what  house  people  were  in  ,  heck  bellatrix  was  president  so  they’d  have  to  listen  to  them  .  rodolphus  lestrange  was  in  the  club  as  well  ,  remus  had  heard  of  them  -  of  course  ,  he  had  .  ❝  hey  ,  man  .  you  forgot  your  notebook  .  i  didn’t  snoop  ,  i  swear  ,  maybe  it’s  a  diary  .  ❞  remus  mumbled  ,  handing  across  the  notebook  to  rodolphus  .

this  year  things  were  definitely  going  to  be  different  ,  even  for  the  marauders  .  remus  was  a  prefect  ,  really  he’d  been  surprised  when  dumbledore  mentioned  remus  by  name  .  really  ,  he  was  going  to  say  no  because  prefects  were  pretty  lame  always  ruining  their  pranks  and  catching  him  when  he  was  being  sneaky  but  if  remus  was  a  prefect  ,  then  he’d  have  some  power  of  his  own  .  ❝  dude  ,  all  i’m  saying  is  we  could  use  this  for  our  benefit  .  me  and  lily  being  prefects  ,  they’re  not  gonna  tattletale  on  us  ,  at  least  i  don’t  think  they  would  and  i  certainly  won’t  .  this  is  changing  the  PRANKS  game  as  we  know  it  ,  prongs  .  ❞

remus  didn’t  believe  in  soulmates  ,  it  felt  silly  having  someone  out  there  in  the  world  who  was  destined  for  you  .  he  was  never  the  romantic  type  ,  he’d  never  tell  the  boys  this  but  remus  thought  lily  evans  was  his  soulmate  ,  not  in  the  romantic  way  of  course  .  but  he  did  get  excited  when  he  saw  them  ,  making  a  mental  list  through  his  day  stupid  shit  to  tell  lils  .  it  was  nice  having  that  ,  having  what  they  had  ,  feeling  like  he  had  someone  .  he  sometimes  wishes  he  was  friends  with  them  when  he  was  younger  ,  would  things  be  different  if  he  had  lily  when  he  was  younger  ??  if  he  had  james  ??  sirius  ??  pete  ??  it  was  best  not  to  PONDER  on  things  like  this  ,  he  was  somewhat  happy  now  .  ❝  lils  ,  hey  .  prefects  ,  me  and  you  .  i  knew  it’d  be  us  in  the  end  .  ❞  remus  teased  them  ,  half  the  shit  that  came  out  of  his  mouth  was  stupid  .

if  remus  had  to  list  his  favorite  people  at  hogwarts  ,  marlene  mckinnon  would  NOT  make  the  cut  .  it’s  not  that  he  hates  them  ,  oh  no  ,  marlene’s  beautiful  and  sirius  and  lily  love  them  so  therefore  remus  puts  up  with  them  .  they’ve  always  been  like  this  ,  remus  never  had  any  siblings  growing  up  the  closest  thing  to  a  sibling  would  be  marlene  and  james  on  a  good  day  .  he’d  never  tell  her  that  though  ,  sometimes  ,  sometimes  ,  remus  would  hope  he  saw  her  face  when  he  entered  a  room  just  so  he  could  bother  her  .  he  found  joy  in  that  ,  but  if  anyone  else  had  anything  to  say  to  them  -  oh  no  ,  he’d  shut  that  down  .  ❝  mckinnon  ,  hellooo  .  it’s  raining  ,  just  figured  i’d  give  you  a  warning  so  you  don’t  go  out  there  and  MELT  in  front  of  everyone  .  ❞

Summer’s were always difficult, being away from their friends for that long. But the latter half of this past summer had been one of the best Sirius could remember, having moved in with James and his family. Spending the majority of the summer hols with James could only have been made better had Remus and Peter been there, too. Sirius had missed the other two dearly, and so a bright smile stretched over Sirius’ face as his eyes focused on Remus before him. “Hate to break it to you, Moonbeam, but I am far more charming and chivalrous than you will ever be,” they teased, playfully nudging at Remus’ arm. “But I s’pose you’re right. Can’t imagine it’d gone over well if I’d bumped into one of the Lestranges.” He chuckled, shaking his head - there were numerous reasons to avoid the Lestranges, now, they thought. “Want something to drink?”

the  scoff  was  quick  to  fall  out  of  his  mouth  ,  moonbeam  ??  who  the  hell  does  sirius  think  he  is  getting  away  with  that  one  .  moony  ?  sure  .  moonpie  ?  only  when  pete  says  it  .  moonbeam  ?  where  is  the  line  ??  ❝  no  .  i’ll  have  you  know  i’m  very  charming  ,  padfoot  .  i  don’t  even  need  to  try  ,  the  people  love  me  ,  ❞  remus  carried  on  ,  his  little  charade  leaning  against  the  door  way  smirking  a  little  as  he  thought  how  ridiculous  he  sounded  .  he  sounded  pretentious  ,  maybe  even  a  bit  cocky  but  heck  ,  he  knew  he  had  friends  whether  he  wanted  them  or  not  .  ❝  oh  yeah  ,  you’d  probably  get  your  ass  handed  to  you  .  no  offense  ,  mate  .  and  yeah  ,  i  want  a  drink  past  me  one  .  ❞

        “  aht  aht  aht.  that  one  is  mine  remus,  ”  gwen  spoke,  swiping  a  cup  full  of  firewhiskey  right  from  underneath  his  hand,  a  cheshire  grin  plastered  on  her  features.  it  hadn’t  been,  she’d  lost  track  of  her  cup  ages  ago  between  all  of  the  games  and  dancing  that  she’d  been  playing  and  doing,  but  he  didn’t  have  to  know  that.  “  you’ll  have  to  go  get  one  of  your  boyfriends  to  make  you  another.  speaking  of,  where  are  they  ?  ”  she  asked,  leaning  a  little  to  look  behind  him.  “  i  haven’t  seen  them  yet.  ”

the  grin  that  formed  on  remus’  face  was  quick  ,  long  lasting  ,  all  at  once  .  ❝  my  boyfriends  ?!?!  ❞  remus  screeched  ,  a  laugh  escaping  his  lips  because  he  had  boyfriends  ,  three  of  them  apparently  .  it  made  him  laugh  ,  the  taller  male  shrugging  his  shoulders  at  gwen’s  question  .  ❝  who  knows  ??  they’re  off  and  about  who  knows  probably  causing  trouble  ,  if  they’re  not  then  well  they’re  not  my  boyfriends  .  ❞  remus  let  gwen  steal  back  whatever  cup  was  hers  ,  he  could  have  very  well  picked  up  the  wrong  one  .

        peter  had  been  neck  deep  for  the  better  part  of  half  an  hour  in  some  game  that  they  couldn’t  even  remember  the  name  of  with  it  winding  down  with  a  decisive  win … they  just  didn’t  know  what  made  it  decisive.  “  we  won  ?  finally  !  bloody  hell  this  was  confusing,  ”  they  voiced  though  they  were  laughing,  turning  their  attention  from  the  game  and  onto  the  rest  of  the  room  now  that  it  was  over.  “  moony  !  when  did  you  get  in  here  ?  ”  a  bright  smile  crossed  their  face,  whatever  peter’s  playing  partner  had  been  saying  lost  in  the  cacophony  around  them  as  peter  stepped  over  to  remus.  “  did  you  get  a  cup  ?  ”
